hi, just joined..Wife been on here for years. Headed to wdw in 2 weeks. Then im going on first cruise on theDream. Wife and son very excited.

It just occurred to me that, technically, I can join. Don't have my own kids yet, but DW has two from a previous marriage that, while I don't get to see them too often, I have a blast when they do visit!

Hello DIS Dads,

Occasional DISboard lurker and big Disney fan. My wife (long time DISboard member "DannysMom") finally convinced me to create a log in by telling me about a "Dad's Club thread" so here I am. Heading with the family down to Disney World for a stay at the Beach Club in June for my older sons 8th Birthday. This will be the first trip for our boy/girl twins who will be almost 2.

Should be quite an adventure :goodvibes

Regard,

Jim
Welcome to all 3 of you!

1. If you're beyond the current calendar year, you can't book a package. You can book a room-only reservation. The room rate is set as the current rate for the purpose of your deposit, but that rate is not fixed and will change when new rates are announced for the new calendar year. In other words, you can lock in a space, but not a rate. An interesting untouted fact is that you can buy tickets any time you want. As long as you don't start using the tickets, you don't start your "use it within 14 days" clock. This is particularly useful to know if you have a child who is currently 9 years old, but will turn 10 before your trip. You can buy a "child" ticket now. Even if it's never used until the child turns 10, Guest Relations will convert that ticket to an "adult" ticket at WDW. If you're booking a room-only reservation, buying your tickets before August of this year is a good idea (if you can swing the cash up-front), because ticket prices have been going up 3% - 5% a year for the last several years. So you can purchase tickets before the rate increase - that's about the biggest "savings" you'll find on Disney park tickets.

2. If you have an ethical travel agent, you will NEVER pay more going through an agent than you will booking yourself. Disney eats the cost of travel agent commissions - it's in Disney's interest to make it as easy as possible for as many people as possible to spend their money at a Disney resort! The real advantages of using a travel agent are:
a) Someone will constantly monitor to see if there's a new and better deal that's come available and would save you money, and can re-book your reservation for you without you having to deal with it.
b) Someone will take your directions and take care of the hassle part of making ADRs and special experiences (or not, if you'd prefer to do it yourself). As an example, one of my clients really wanted a Crystal Palace lunch with their young child. They'd done it with their nephew years ago, and wanted to have that specific experience with their son. When we first booked their reservation, Crystal Palace wasn't available. I kept checking for availability several times a day, every day until a slot opened up and got the reservation made. Sure, they could have done that themselves. But that's just the kind of detail that a travel agent takes off your hands so you don't have to mess with it.
c) A travel agent is constantly monitoring news and rumors from Disney and the Disney community, and can tell you about new opportunities that you might not find on your own. For example, I have a client who has stayed at Port Orleans - Riverside before, and could have just booked themselves there again. But I knew about the new Royal Guest rooms that will be available by the time they travel, and they were interested. I'm getting them booked at POR, and will look to get them changed to a Royal Guest room as soon as booking for that category opens up this summer.
d) With a good travel agent, you can have as much or as little control of details as you want. Want to make all of the ADRs yourself? Go ahead. Need to make a last minute change while trying to get on top of the stuff you've got to finish up at work so you can leave for your vacation? Call your agent, and your agent can take are of it.
e) You'll often receive value-added extras from a travel agent. I offer to develop and send my clients detailed touring plans, to help them minimize time spent waiting in lines at the parks. Agents and agencies sometimes run Disney Gift Card deals or other giveaways (I've been known to give away a unique guide book that would be particularly helpful for a specific client's trip).
Well said! You're my FTJ go-to guy!

I asked the guys at work and they said they really aren't up on the prices, but said you might get an idea at popsike.com. It's a site that offers estimates based on ebay auctions. From what I gleaned off that site, most copies of that album go for around $120-$160, with Mono records being more pricey. Obviously, the better condition the record and album cover is in, the better price you get. Do a little hunting on that site, you'll have more info on the album to refine the search.

As an alternative, you could take it to an Antiques Roadshow. But I would not try selling it until you get it appraised.

Thanks I'm going to have to check it out on my day off:magnify: I'll let you know what I find out:confused3

Welcome! Great to have you!

I've already got my Miami based client going Lou's Pizza against some Joe's Stone Crab. He didn't think that was fair, so I threw in some 2011 World Series tickets (Wrigley Field only). :rotfl2:
Ooooo...if he declines, can I get in on some of those seats? And a unicorn, I'd like a unicorn as well.

Well, looks like it will be a surprise September trip, not a surprise November trip. DW would much, MUCH rather go to MNSSHP and surprisingly, so does DD! (we were watching Disney Youtube videos today, with the special holiday parades casually bringing the subject up...we also looked into a Disney Cruise...not in the cards yet) Plus, my boss says if I had to take a week off, the least worst month of the four would be September.

So...if I can save up the money, I have to figure out when to pop the surprise on them, as we'll have to give DW's seamstress friend enough notice to create our costumes. :goodvibes

That's something DW and I will have to argue abou...er, discuss. Top two contenders in my mind right now would be Maleficent, Aurora, and Prince Phillip, or some combination of Alice in Wonderland Characters. I do want them to be matching, or at least connected to one another.

TL

Thanks Brian for posting the pics for me:thumbsup2 This is one of my ponies thats in the stable, 72 Mach1 351 Cobra Jet (Q code) full Ram Air Hook up:woohoo: It's name is Crazy Horse, I've had it now 27 years since I was 15 & was my 1st car.

Now whenever I go for a ride I have 17 yr olds that think I'm Dirt and I'm A Happy Man:lmao:

No prob... ;)

If you do the Wonderland characters you got to be The Mad Hatter (old version):cool1:

Hello all DisDads! It has been a while...

Finally had a nice sunny day today. Took MIL & FIL + two of my kidlets to their very first MN Twins game. Was a bit chilly w/ the wind in the shade. They are giving us a frost warning tonight! Looks like I'll get a few sunny days finally. We have only been able to play one t-ball game so far - rained out all the other times.

Awesome! When are you going in June!? I am going from may 31st to June 5th.

Hello Virginia Dads! The Blue Angels will be performing at the Lynchburg Regional Air Show this coming weekend!

So, I thought to share some photos of my little princess with you from this last Saturday. See, DD joined the girl scouts in march. She finally turned 5 and could join. :woohoo: This last Saturday, they held a He and Me dance. The girls got to invite any adult male role model they wished to this dance. My DD had invited my father up, but due to an emergency, he was not able to attend. :sad1:

So, Me, Papa Rick (my stepdad) and G-Mama (my mom) all came. Here are a few photos:

That is her laughing at something. :confused3 forgive me, I can't remember what.

Now, they did games during this 'dance' (there wasn't much dancing.. but we still had fun!) One of these games was a Cookie Race. I never heard of this before, but apparently there are a ton of youtube videos of this game. Basicly, you put a cookie on your forehead and you can only use your face to move it from your forehead into your mouth. I got some great photos of DD attempting this feat. She lost at least 7 cookies to the floor before two people won. After the winners were declared, she just went ahead and ate the last cookie (non-floor touching cookie). BTW, I removed her glasses after the first cookie got stuck on them.

Hope everyone has a good week!

Serious question.. My wife wants to spread a little magic at Disney. She bought a peanut butter load of tiny bubbles in a bottle things and says she want to give them to the borderline meltdown kids at the parks..

Would you guys freak out if someone gave your little ones bubbles?

Have you ever done anything like this?

If you did, how did it go?

We have we bring extra glow stick bracelets and hand them out to kids near us that dont have any thing. We get big thank you's from the kids and the parents. Those that dont already have the disney bought things that they sell
they are probably on a budget just like us. We buy the packs at the dollar
store and hand out probably a pack a night.

thank you for more good advise! Glow stick bracelets hmmmmm...

Oh and my brain wasn't working yesterday.. It was planet Hollywood DTD not hard rock!

Thank you all for the advise and confirmation that giving bubbles will not get me ejected..:rotfl2:
