Hello DIS Dads,

Occasional DISboard lurker and big Disney fan. My wife (long time DISboard member "DannysMom") finally convinced me to create a log in by telling me about a "Dad's Club thread" so here I am. Heading with the family down to Disney World for a stay at the Beach Club in June for my older sons 8th Birthday. This will be the first trip for our boy/girl twins who will be almost 2.

Should be quite an adventure :goodvibes

Regard,

Jim

:welcome: Jim... pull up a cheer, grab a beer from the fridge, and start'a'postin' - We are a friendly bunch of guys.

If you have any questions, just ask and Stopher will be by to answer them. :rotfl2:

Serious question.. My wife wants to spread a little magic at Disney. She bought a peanut butter load of tiny bubbles in a bottle things and says she want to give them to the borderline meltdown kids at the parks..

Would you guys freak out if someone gave your little ones bubbles?

Have you ever done anything like this?

If you did, how did it go?
I think that is a great idea... It isn't food (allergy issues). We have given out glow sticks to kids in lines before and I always ask the parents first if it is ok for their child to have one.

We always do something at the parks to brighten somebodies day.
One year on our last day we went to hard rock DTD. There was family there (3 teens and mom and dad) that was scrutinizing the menu... They were defiantly on a budget.. The waiter told them it was on the house before they ordered.. (we paid). Come to find out it was his wife's birthday and that was the only TS that she asked for on the trip. It really lifts our spirit to do something like this!
Bought popcorn and soda for some teens that had brought their lunch in from home!! Can't wait to do it again. :thumbsup2
What a wonderful way to spread some Disney magic!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 <--- 2 thumbs!

Afternoon all.....spent the morning watching the kids while DW napped, she still has a nasty head cold, so the rest will do her good. Besides, I'm heading out with my brother this afternoon to game seven of the OHL finals, Mississauga (yay!) vs. Owen Sound for all the marbles. The arena is sold out, so it'll be rocking, and I've head from various co-workers from other stores who'll be there. Playoff hockey, nothing like it! I'll try to get a pic, my brother's wife made him a hat for the game, looks just like the Waterbuffalo hat from the Flintstones....

GO MAJORS!

Great stuff. Do you remember Mad Dog (MD 20/20)? My great-uncle was the one who created Old Granddaddy whiskey. I don't get royalties.

I do remember that stuff. I had it once, in a rugby initiation. Can't say I've had any in many years since though....

If you don't get royalties, do you at least get free whiskey???

I actually think its my fault. I have an easter bunny costume that I break out every year. She got terrified by the fact that the easter bunny sounded like daddy. If I did have a nemisis, I would definantly teach her to say "Daddy's nemisis id Pooh' though. She is very got at listening to me, She can already sing the entire Arkansas Razorback fight song(kinda)

So do you just wear the easter bunny costume at easter or do you break it out for other special occasions? Does it look like Giant Pink footy pajamas?

So :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 <---- those are genuine thumbs for buying the dinner at hardrock. I think the bubbles are a great idea. I am imagining the little bubble bottles similar to what they give out at some weddings. I'm sure kids would like it, but as was previously mentioned if at all possible try and ask the parents first.

<begin cheesy comment>
As a side note its people going out of their way to bring an extra bit of magic that really seems to make Disney and this board so awesome.
</end cheesyness>

And here I thought I could use you as a reference...
You might want to look for a different reference...

DW said we're going to WDW next June! (leaving on Memorial Day)

So, 1st of all YAY!!!:cool1:

Next: When can we book a trip that's a year away? I've tried in the past to book a long-way out, and typically, they won't let me book past the end of the current calendar year.
And, when we book, I know we have to book rooms, but can you wait and add tickets / dining later?

Finally, what's the *advantage* of booking through a travel agency? Wouldn't it cost more going through a 3rd party compared to Disney directly? (SOMEONE'S gotta pay the TA)
I was going to answer but I see Aaron has beat me to it in handy numerical list format. I am not part of the mini-mafia that is fairytale journey's and I'm not a travel agent either, so I don't have a dog in the fight. My DW and I usually plan our trips to Disney with military precision, but we view our Disney Travel agent as another advocate whose looking out for us. I don't think we've booked a trip through her that she hasn't come to us at least once to tell us she swapped to a newer package and its saving us X amount of money or to say we can stay for an extra 1 or 2 days and it won't cost anything more.

Why not try Dreams Unlimited, right here on the DIS? They do a great job, will get you the best discount availabe and are absolutely free! We've used them a couple times.

Wow! Ownage without even trying!

Gratz on the trip!

I agree with everything Aaron said. For both of my last trips, I went through a TA. I did all the homework myself, found the discount codes, etc, then I went to the TA and said, "This is what I want."

For my 1st trip, it was a surprise for DW, so it was beneficial to me to have everything go to them, as DW always got home before me and got the mail.

For our 2nd trip, the TA found airline tickets that cost about $200 less than anything I could find. Also, one of the connecting flights cancelled, and when the TA called me to let me know, she already had several alternative flights available to me to fix the situation. If I had booked by myself, I might not have found out about the cancellation until we showed up at the airport or I would have freaked out about it....

The best part of getting a TA. When I made changes to my Dining plan, it was the TA that sat on hold with Disney, not me!

Anyone else read that they are revamping the Echanted Tiki Room at WDW to make it more like the original concept? I know there are alot of people that like that ride (I think it more closely compares to Stitches great adventure) so I am curious about other people's thoughts on these changes.

There have been a couple posts from people commenting about wanting to stay at the contemporary. Recently The Disney Parks blog had pictures of Original Contemporary Rooms compared to the way they look now.

I think the old rooms like pretty cool.

Want a sticker of this for the back of my jeep.

Yay for Star Wars Emoticons!
(And for Multi-quoting from days ago, but not closing the browser window, so I can bring up old topics!)

The plates are GREAT!
And side-bar: How do you like the Matrix? I thought about it, as it seemed a practical car that could get dirty. I got a Mustang instead, but I really liked the Matrix.

I like it, it's my second one. The first one was totaled in a accident and I walked away uninjured. I was t-boned and the car ended up on the passenger side. This one has all wheel drive and handles great. The only thing I would like it to do is have more get up and go.

You wish it was a souped up mid 80's era convertible? That would be sweet.

It's far to quiet in here today. I am stuck in Ohare for 5 hours and running out of ways to spend time. I'm gonna have to start working soon if it doesn't pick up.

There are quite a few Dis Dads who are certified Disney travel people. (I am not one of them.) As a DVC members, DW and I book most of our trips to WDW. But, we have considered DCL, and Aaron was great in finding info about the different staterooms/ categories and now just waiting for future booking dates to consider when they open. You could go through one of them.

I do remember that stuff. I had it once, in a rugby initiation. Can't say I've had any in many years since though....

No, I don't get any, but I'm not sure I could handle Old Granddaddy anymore. Maker's Mark is my favorite. Hennessey cognac is great as well.

Wonder if it has anything to do with Iago and his tweets regarding Japan... ;)

Made me wonder if there is an echanted Tiki room at Tokyodisney. There is but it features Stitch not Iago. They really dodged the bullet there.

i liked them both trike. i wish they would bring back all the old rides that i rode when i was a kid. mission to mars, if you had wings and id loved horizons and the old gm building in epcot. for the people who have been going the last ten years or so it would be like turning buzz light year spin into another ride. but, like everything else, life and time marches on.:thumbsup2

You know what would be cool is if they built simulators for all the old rides. I'm sure they don't have the video footage they would need in order to build that but it would be a really cool way to let those rides live on when the are taken out of use. I only went to epcot once or twice in high school and junior high. The old GM ride still stands out in my mind. I think I have pictures of myself standing by a green race car taken inside that pavilion.
