Wow, another busy weekend around here.

Sushibite: Welcome to the club and thanks for your service!

Oh yeah! Did the leg workout this morning... Oh those one-legged wall stands are killer! Good luck doing the workout without the dvd :thumbsup2
It works pretty well. I think for Plyo and stuff like that I'll definitely still use the DVD but for the push up/pull up type workouts, I like just doing it with the sheet at my own pace while I'm watching TV.

Is it just me getting old or is there really a decline in the manners of younger people?? :confused3

Last night at dinner we wet out to Cracker Barrel (fish dinner - Friday Lent) and i counted at least five guys with hats on. My mother would have pulled out her whooping hand and cut that thing off the top of my head.

I also so a couple of young men (late teens) cut in front of two elderly women to the doors which the slammed in front of the women.

Aren't we allowed to pull them back by the ears and make them apologize or something......

Maybe I am turning into a prude
I'm 29 and I'll be honest, hats in a restaurant doesn't bother me. My parents taught me manners and wouldn't allow me to wear one in a restaurant, but it just isn't something that I even think about. Personally, I don't wear a hat very often unless I'm going to a game or will be outside a lot anyway.

The biggest hat issue to me is when I go to a ball game or as I've really noticed in recent years, at the Indy 500. The pre-race ceremony consists of service men and women parading past, the singing of God Bless America, the playing of Taps, a prayer and of course the singing of the National Anthem. It disgusts me the number of people who won't even take their hat off for any of that. I just want to go knock the hat off their heads. This isn't really an age thing to me either, I've seen both young and old doing it. At least last year a few people started calling people out around them for not taking their hats off until they finally did so.

As a school principal, I can tell you that without a doubt there has been a decline in manners. I see it every day. I may be wrong with this assumption (notice that I didn't say the word ASSUME:thumbsup2), but I think that it's because kids get EVERYTHING for doing nothing. For example:
"Oh, your team finished last and didn't win a game all year, well here's a trophy since you all tried so hard." No, your team sucked, and you don't deserve a trophy; that's life, and it isn't fair the majority of the time.

and

"Thanks for coming to my child's birthday party, here is your present so that you can have something to open too; we don't want anyone left out and to get hurt feelings because they don't get to open a present." BS, this isn't your birthday, it's somebody else's, and when you go to someone's birthday party, expect NOT to have a present to open.

There are lots more, but those are the two that drive me absolutely crazy.

[steps off of soapbox]
Yeah, no point in harming the fragile self esteem of the youth by exposing them to any kind of disappointment at a young age. We all know life is a rose garden and you always get what you want.:sad2::rolleyes1

Oh yeah, and I'm sick too. Have a nasty cold that's only getting worse. A full week this week certainly won't help with that either. Gotta go up in to Northern Indiana on business tomorrow - two customer meetings, so I won't be on here much then either.
I've got that too... and so does my son. My wife stayed home with him today and is taking him to the Dr. later. This weather changing back and forth from 60's and nice to 30's and damp just makes it tough to stay healthy.

Yes! I think that's a great idea! I just changed the settings to allow for 5 pick sets per user (the max allowed by yahoo). My kids will probably join, too! Unless anyone has any objections?
I think I might fill one out based on picks and another based on who I want to win. I still might have to do some picking there and not just go for straight up want though, because I doubt Duke will really lose in the first round. I hate to say this to you, but I really want to see Purdue get past your Hoyas, because nothing in this tournament would make me happier than seeing Purdue beat the crap out of Notre Dame, and more specifically, Scott Martin.

Let me start, by saying it again. WOW! I have been gone for a few weeks tops, and we have a whole new thread and it already hit 100 pages.

I have been extremely busy the last few weeks. With the soccer season fast approaching and my other duties at my fire company, I have been swamped! I am coaching two soccer teams again. DD is playing on a rec U-8 team and a travel U-10 team. And DS is playing on his U-6 team again. He asked me not to coach him, which is fine with me. He has a tendency to listen better to his current coach, and doesnt play the daddy card. It will be fun to sit and watch a game finally. I was responsible for rostering, scheduling and also planning the concession stand schedule.

Our fire company is also in the process of planning our chinese auction, and our bi-weekly fish fry dinners throughout Lent.

So hope everyone has been good. I will try to stop by more often.

I'm going to have to sit down and look at some matchups here... I didn't see the selection show last night and finally just sat down and took a look at the brackets. At first glance, I had 2 Big Ten teams and 2 ACC teams in the Final Four. Only 1 number 1 seed. I must not like the Big East as much as the selection committee.:lmao::rotfl2:

As long as Duke and Notre Dame both lose, then I can at least eek a little satisfaction out of this tournament. Fortunately, Georgetown doesn't play until late Friday, giving Chris Wright ample team to heal! How we do all depends on his condition.

This should be a fun NCAA pool. Most of the pools that I've been in are from local folks or people I know from school, so many people have the same favorite teams. In this pool, there will be a lot of different favorites, so it should be wide open! But I'm still betting that someone's 6 year old daughter will win.

Guess my kid won't go to your kids party.:lmao::rotfl2: Just kidding. I can't agree with you more. In live there are "winners" and "losers" and thats just the way it is. If parents don't set up some desire to "win" (sports, jobs, grades) by making the prize desirable, their kids will continue to "lose". :

I agree with you both, but what is it about these leagues wanting to stack the teams? I have coached girls soccer & basketball rec leagues many years, and am still so surprised when the adults act like children and put all the stars on one team & they will go undefeated. Yes, you're team sucked & you didn't win a game all year, but that is because a select few got together and rigged it that way. I've been on both sides - undefeated season & didn't win 1 game - so I know it'snot my coaching abilities. I guess that happens in real life as well, so we really need to teach our kids that it is not how hard you try, it's who you know, how pretty you are, and luck to be in the right place & the right time.

Thanks. Once in a lifetime is about right. That’s why we’re trying to make sure we can take the parents along as well. The current plan is to head up via bus on the Monday of Thanksgiving week and try to get in a few major sites as well while were up there (see a play, a performance at Lincoln Center, possibly the Statue of Liberty). Of course the day of the parade, the schedule is to be at the staging area by 2:00am!!! That will be wild. I doubt any of the kids will get to bed at all the night before.

Congratulations. I keep trying to talk DW into a WDW vacation over Thanksgiving or Christmas, but she still insists on visiting her family that she doesn't speak to all year during the holidays because it is family time. Have a great trip!

Yeah, the stacked team thing is a pain. The leagues around here and even the HS I went to are really bad about that. It seems like the HS basketball starters are picked when they are in 5th grade playing for the private elementary school in town before they move to the public HS. There has even been a couple of cases of students from other school districts "moving in" with grandparents so that they could play there. It worked ok for them until the varsity basketball coach was seen having dinner with the parents of one of those players. He was ineligible for a year.

On the flip side of that though, there was a set of twins that left and actually went to the HS that the player who was ruled ineligible came from. They weren't considered to be good enough to play on the team so they decided to leave. At the small school they went to (and the other guy left) they put together a 27-0 season their senior year, won a state title, one of them was an Indiana All-Star and both of them went on to play at the University of Indianapolis.

FYI, I now live about a mile outside of my old HS school district and support a different, small school, where my wife coaches volleyball and our son will one day attend.

Do we have a confirmed date and place (Philly Zoo) for the Mid-Atlantic DIS Dads' meet?

Philly Zoo is the place:cool1: Post #56, Carl has a poll set up for everyone to vote on Month & Sat or Sun.

Anyone who is going be sure to vote, I know he wants to get started on it:goodvibes

Just had to share this picture with you guys. Me... just out of Navy boot camp, 1991... at Magic Kingdom. If you look real close, you can make out a bucket or two from the old Skyway ride.

That's a great photo! Thanks for posting it! So young you are!

I miss that old SKyway ride. Along with the 20,000 leagues ride, its one of the ones that I really miss from when I was a kid.

Thanks :thumbsup2 And I completely agree with what you say about 20,000 leagues... I still think about that ride every once in a while. My daughter would have absolutely LOVED that ride. Just another piece of wonderful history that we will only be able to describe to our children.
