Just to show everyone that there are still some pretty good people in the world:

When I came back in from loading buses and cars this afternoon at school, our secretary told me that there was someone waiting to see me. My first thought was "great, another PO'd parent." I was WAY wrong. I welcomed a lady into my office. In a nutshell, she told me that she wanted to do something to help some kids out for Christmas and said that the check she was handing me was a donation from her business to do just that. [aside]Now, I'm in very small town USA, and money doesn't flow very well here[aside]. The check that she handed me was folded up, and I thanked her for her generosity and assured her that we would put the money to good use. I was expecting $100, maybe $200 tops. As she was leaving, I unfolded the check and took a peek at the amount. Then I almost passed out in the floor. She had given us a check for $1000. I was speechless and I feel pretty confident that I really stumbled and choked through another thank you. Yeah, she's gonna get a tax writeoff and stuff like that, but this was most definitely something that she didn't have to do, especially with the economy like it is. So, we're thankful; that will allow us to pick up several more kids that would be without this Christmas.

So, there is your uplifting story for the day.

That IS a great story!:cool1:

CRUD
Long week… First I’ve been fighting a rather nasty cold all week and monthly closing weeks at work always seem to keep me swamped to the point where I really can’t accomplish anything beyond work and sleep. I’ve only been able to quickly roll through the last 10 pages or so to try and catch up. There are some real nice pictures posted of all the Dis-Dad-Meets in the past several days. Good to see everyone having the opportunity to get together and I’m glad to see that y’all are having a great time down that way.

We won’t arrive down at WDW until the 18th, so I’m going to just miss most of you. We’re beyond the 10 day mark for our stay at POR, so I was able to go ahead and fill out the online check-in. Unfortunately it seems that there are fewer opportunities to make requests though that process. When we stayed at CBR the last time around, I was able to add additional comment so I put in a request for building 25 or 26, and was quite shocked to actually score a room in my favorite building on that site. This time however, the requests are limited to a small menu of options (like, “first floor” or “trundle bed”), but there’s no where to type in anything else (or I’d have tried to request a room in building 14, 15 or 90). I’m sure that anywhere they put us will be fine, but I do miss being able to at least ask.

I learned about the Dad's Club reading dvczerfs on the 2,000+ mile drivers transportation thread so I figured I'd come over and have a look. Also we're leaving to go down in about 11 hours and although I love going I hate packing. I see that you guys assign membership numbers. I find that a little intimidating because once I have a number I'll feel obligated to post regularly and I'm kind of.....well I guess lazy is a good word, although give me a couch and a tv remote and my thumb will get quite a good workout. We started going in the late 80s when our kids were very young. I have to admit I was kind of dragged down there the first time. We went every other year until the mid 90s when we started going every year. Recently we've been going twice a year. Notice a trend here? Anyway, since you guys seem to have such a good time, I think I'll become a regular reader if only an occasional poster. I'll check in with you from WDW.

Welcome to the funny farm! I have to admit I read your name wrong the first time had to re-read it again to make sure. We'll be there in 46 hours!!

Welcome to the club! There are a lot of occasional posters, so don't worry about that. Feel free to stop in and say hi once in a while or stay to hang out and chat.

Thanks for sharing. Nice to hear some good things like this are happening even when times are tough. Every kid deserves a good Christmas.

My wife has always been against real Christmas trees. I'm a logical person so her argument that it is wasteful to spend money on a tree that will be thrown away has worked for me in the past. That said, we have 3 trees because she keeps finding another fake tree she likes better than the one we have and buys it.

Well, guess what we have sitting in a box in the living room this evening...:rolleyes1
Not only do we have ANOTHER new tree, but she wants to undecorate our tree that is up, put the new tree up and decorate it.:headache: If we had back all the money she's sunk in fake trees, I think we could buy a real tree every year for the rest of our lives.:rolleyes1:sad2:

Oh boy. I thought the idea was to get one, and then have it pay for itself over several years of use... :sad2:

:thumbsup2 i get involved with a group that does what they call "holiday breakins". friends or a close family member apply and tell there story of the family in need. lost jobs, just no money, and wouldnt be able to afford anything for christmas. (i know, its not about the toys but it is about giving) anyway, those chosen have no idea, the friend gets the team in the house, police are also notified, set up a tree, decorate a bit, and leave gifts. no notes are left, they have no idea who it was and the team never gives any names of the people who got broken into. they come home from school and work and, merry christamas!!! they di 45 families last year and we are shooting for 60 this year. we are almost there.:thumbsup2

Tour Guide MIke called it as a green low crowd day at MK today....I usually go by his recomendations and he is usually right on it...Howeve,r today he also said HS studios would be green and low crowd...sorry Dave he can't win them all :rotfl2:

I forgot to tell you guys that when we were at HS that Lauren got pushed to the side by Little Einsteins character June. I got it on video...and a CM saw us taping....They came up to us and wanted to see the video and then wanted to make up for June's rudeness....I was so embarassed...freak accident....she didnt get hurt or anything...no big deal as far as I was concerned...but...they insisted on escourting us to meet all the characters in the meet and greet area of the animation studio part and then got us to the front of the line of Toy Story...I was so embarassed..but didnt have to wait in line that one time
LOL
