DIS Dads The DIS Dad's Club VI - Man's Room

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

And as to Nate "sounding like a hick". That's ridiculous. I believe that a good new rule would be that a DIS dad would never insult another DIS dad like that (unless its already a rule). Seconded?

Appreciate the vote...I'm told...not by any Disdad...that I have a fairly thick southern drawl...which I'm totally oblivious too...until I hear myself on recorded media. Then I stereotype myself...not that any of you would.

Had a meet up with Tim (that's nice) today. Our first (and hopefully our last) meet in a hospital. Our beads are from his DD.

That's cool. :thumbsup2

My wife now accosts people about Disney. I've made a true convert!

Can I get this as a ringtone?

I didn't know this needed to be a Man Law. I'll second that. Corrolary to be if in used in jest and only if related to one's status as a nemesis of the other party and/or in relation to regular banter regarding professional sports teams. Soccer is, and shall forever be, open to public mocking.

Anyone to carry the motion?

You should really get Tim to buy you a new tie. It's horrible what he did to it. :)

I will carry the motion! But just to let "y'all" know I like being called a hick!! Proud of it.:thumbsup2

Anyone who says you aren't supposed to bribe kids either doesn't have kids or spends their time reading parenting books while someone else takes care of their kids.

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Around those types, my DW and I like to call bribes "positive reinforcement". Seems to confuse 'em!

I was lobbying for a hockey net in the dining room but DW said the power wheels Zamboni would mess up the hardwoods.

:lmao::lmao::its a good thing they didnt have those books when i was little, my mom was a 4foot 9 inch italian lady who had 5 kids. the only thing that book would of done for her was give her something to throw at me.:lmao:i think my dad had stock in a wooden spoon company!

Yes, the podcast was a blast! Aaron you were a great moderator. Kept things going smoothly and professionally. Thank you for doing this. My wife only mocked me a little bit...

For a theme, I still liked (Mark's?) idea about the Small World theme interupted by gunshots at the end.

Ill see what I can come up with this weekend.

Mark has his work cut out for him this weekend. He's working on sound for the podcast, and in addition to the intro/outro music, it's looking like he's going to have to do some editing of the actual podcast audio itself. It seems your loudmouth host/moderator was speaking too softly during the podcast, so his recording level is substantially lower than everyone else's.

Hmmmmmmm. I wonder who that could be . . . . :confused3

I love diversity - especially in a PodCast. Having different accents and tones in your voice helps keep everyone from sounding the same and gives each individual a little bit of uniqueness. It took me over a year of listening to the WDW Today PodCast to realize that Mike Newell and Mike Scopa were not the same person. They sound very much the same. I love that PodCast, but that was a little confusing for a while.

Hey...don't bad mouth my host like that. :lmao:

Yeah...I know what you mean...thought he was Mike Newell-Scopa. :lmao:

WDW Today and WDW Radio are my favorite Podcasts.

Lou Mongello does an outstanding job on WDW Radio...though they tend to run a little long.

I've tried the Dis Unplugged...but I just really don't like that one as much...even if it if "the" Disboards Podcast.

Man,

The bad part about being the only family member with a pickup truck...guess who gets asked to move everyone.:lmao::lmao:

:lmao:
I've also found that being the largest friend or family member is an automatic nomination to "get the heavy stuff". I think of Fezzik from the Princess Bride at times I'm asked to help. "It's not my fault being the biggest and the strongest. I don't even exercise." He makes it sound so rewarding! WRONG!

I was lobbying for a hockey net in the dining room but DW said the power wheels Zamboni would mess up the hardwoods.

If you're anything like me, your DW would make you spend most of your time in the penalty box anyway!

I Second!

:rotfl:
I know what you mean! I have often said that as a young girl, my mother must have lived in Japan and trained as a samurai warrior from the way she weilded a wooden spoon!:rotfl2: She must have traumatized me because the other night I flinched when my wife tried to serve me mashed potatoes!:rotfl:

Hello fellas !

I just joined the disboards, but have been reading them for awhile. I stumbled across your dad's group and had to try and join.

I am from Missouri, I have 5 kids. a 7 year old girl, 4year old boy girl twins and 1 year old identical twin girls. Yep back to back sets! We stay busy, and get lots of funny looks when we get out all the strollers at the mall.

Took them all to Disney for the first time 3 weeks ago, and are planning our return trip this november ( if I can talk the little woman into it).:yay:

Anyway thanks for letting me in (hopefully)

Welcome. Glad you could join us.

Friends, I have a new request for you, if you would, please.

Just in tonight, news from California that my 93 yr old grandmother fell today and broke her left hip. It's a pretty severe break at the joint, and surgery is pending probably on Friday... though the doctors are very concerned as apparently she's been having heart troubles as well. (No one in the family knew this prior to her falling apparently).

Plus, my uncle, her son, has had a bad spike in his EKG score and is facing a bit of concern from his doctors as well. He had a stent put in back in Septebmer the last time his numbers were this high. My grandfather died of a massive heart attack at 63 back in '79 - and my uncle is 65, so naturally he, my dad, and my aunts are concerned. (Side note - my dad, who is older than my uncle - praises his birthday each year since he adds a year to "beating" his dad. We laugh each time he says it, but it is so very true).

So if you don't mind, and I know you don't, some heavenward conversations would be appreciated when you have some time to share. Thank you!

Done. Really sorry to hear about this.

Question about the podcast. I read in previous posts about a skype podcast, but I don't have a webcam. Do you need skype or can I join up just by using my microphone?? I really would like to take part, but DW was sick as a dog last night with a high fever and I just couldn't make it. Let me know, and if I need to get a webcam, or even download skype, then I'll see what I can do for a cheap cam this weekend and, if needed, will work on getting skype downloaded and running. Hope ya'll have a great weekend. It was one more tough day at school today (one of the toughest in recent memory), so you better believe that I'm gonna enjoy it.

I am a firm believer in the child bribe system (have a big box of stuff in the basement, Pixar Cars to Action Figures), it's gotten us through the Dr's Office, Dentist, Potty Training, and many other times.

He is now almost like a Jr. politician:lmao:

Thanks everyone for the prayers. I haven't yet heard today if my grandmother had her surgery or not. I'm hopeful that if she did it went well... but until I hear from someone out west... I'm kind of just stuck waiting, and waiting, and waiting...

On my FIL front, DW bought an airplane ticket last night - but is fully prepared to change it if needed. She opted to push it out as long as possible, and went for a trip in mid-May... but it's on Southwest, so fully changable with no fee if she needs to go sooner. At this point she now wants to wait to see how chemo treatment #2 goes for him before she ventures out there. When she does - it'll be for 12 days, or longer if need be - so having it closer to the end of the school year is good by me. I would handle that again if needed, but I'd rather not have to if at all possible. That was crazy last time doing work, as well as teaching, and the cooking and the cleaning, and the driving hither, thither and yon... ...it's been a crazy few days/weeks/months.

While I'd like to concentrate and get my TR's finished - all of this has kind of put my DIS-desire on hold for a bit. I open it up, take two minutes to look around and just go "bleh" and sign off. I want to be on here and chat - but I don't. I'm drained and kind of in a funk too, not really wanting to do anything, and can't really focus on a lot either. I've tried to keep up on various TR's but have fallen too far behind and have just kind of given up. It's so strange right now, I've even ... :scared1: ... gasp ... found myself thinking that I am not even sure I want to do down to Florida at the beginning of April and we might just cancel our trip. I even went so far as to suggest that week to my DW to head west for her trip. And the pressures at work have increased the past month or so too, which isn't helping either - a key VP left at the beginning of January, so all of her work has been parcelled out to the rest of us to step up and cover. So much is just topsy turvey right now - that I'm kind of just traipsing through each day, looking forward to going to bed each night more than the day before. I know, it sounds kind of strange, but that's where I am right now. So if you don't see me on here for a while, that's why.

Thanks for listening and caring though... I appreciate it.

Christopher ..Shari and I are praying for you and the entire family. You are pulled in so many different directions right now that it is completely understandable to feel the way you do. But, you know that we are always here to listen and be there for you when you need us. That is the great thing about the Dis Dads! Keep up posted on your grandmother and your Father In Law as you get datails!

Tim I am thrilled to hear the good news about Juliana's scans coming back clear. Answered prayers!!!!

Welcome to the club to all of our new members!! Our ranks continue to grow and we are better for it! Guys we have fun on facebook with each other too if you are on there!!

Stopher....hope things settle down in your life soon. I'll say something to the big guy upstairs on your account as I've been talking to him much lately as well.

My Uncle, at age 53, died of a Heart Attack today while shoveling snow out of his mother's driveway. And two weeks ago, my sister attempted to take her own life (and thankfully didn't succeed). She's been battling an addiction to pain medications for 6 years and was trying to take the easy way out.

Your prayers would be much appreciated as our family has been asking a lot of questions from Him lately as to why these things are happening.

Thanks in advance....

Scott

stopher & scott - prayers going out to your families

On the same note, my 90 yr old Grandmother broke her hip last week and had a hip replacement Monday, today she went to the rehab center:scared1: At that age it's got to be really hard, she was always a on the go person, about 15 years ago she beat breast cancer, last year she beat colen cancer, I hope she is strong to beat this too:goodvibes

Had a meet up with Tim (that's nice) today. Our first (and hopefully our last) meet in a hospital. Our beads are from his DD.
