So, what have you DISers? How can I put aside, say, $50-100 each week without her noticing?
DW and I surprised the dds (8,6) earlier this year with a trip, but we were in cahoots. Or, you could offer to take over the money for a few months (wow, that would start a huge fight.)
So, here's my 2 cents. First, tell her that you need to start buying your lunch at work so that you can eat with the boss to get a promotion and you need $50 per week. With some of that money, buy your lunch in bulk at the grocery at the beginning of the week - lunch meat, peanut butter, bread, bananas, apples, sunflower seeds - and save the rest. You could manage $40 a week, $160 a month, and $800 after 5 months.
Second, convince her how much fun it would be to surprise the children with a trip to WDW. We put ours in the car at night, told them we were visiting the grandparents, and drove all night. When she is on board with the surprise and says you can't afford it ... you have the answer.
For the record, we have been married for 10 years. I have repeatedly lied to DW for birthdays, anniversaries, and just other times to surprise her and have never been in trouble. This last trip, we met a couple at WDW who had been married 54 years and were celebrating their anniversary. When I asked him how he managed (to keep his sanity

), he said that he kept surprising his wife.
