it is Andy. This stuff is more like watching bad reality TV

We had a conversation at work one day about how in most sports, as you progress to the next level, more is expected of the players and games are called a little tighter by officials as more is on the line... then there's basketball.
In Jr. High they're still trying to develop good fundamentals, so basically everything is called.
In High School, the elite players begin to separate themselves from the rest and the refs might let borderline travel calls, touch fouls and palming calls slide.
In College, elite players tend to start getting a little bit of respect and sometimes the whistle blows in their favor. For the most part I'd say games are called in a manner similar to HS games.
In the NBA... well if your name is Bryant, James, Wade, Garnett, etc, etc, you could hit a defender in the knee with a baseball bat, pick up the ball at half court, carry it to the basket and dunk it and they'd call a foul on the guy laying on the ground with the busted knee at half court. That and if you can get from the outside the 3 point line to the basket with just 1 or 2 dribbles... there probably should have been a whistle for a travel.
