We had terrific weather for the air show at Joint Base Andrews yesterday. Since our son is interviewing for a crew chief position with the Blue Angels, he was able to get us into their VIP tent. We had tables under cover with hot dogs, chips and cold drinks and also a viewing area outside the tent with chairs. He was able to help them out during "morning turns", which is several hours before they actually perform. During that time, the crew chiefs check out the jets, including firing up the engines to make sure everything is in good running condition. Here are a few photos from the day. Our son is in the light blue shirt (since he is not part of the Blues, he is wearing his regular Navy fatigues). The photo of the jets is from a short video; it was captured while they were doing a barrel roll in front of us. We were also able to get a photo with all of the pilots after the show!

Cool Pics...glad you were able to enjoy this with your son . :cool1:

He has really been enjoying this, Dave. This morning, he got a call from one of the LPOs at 5:00 AM and he was asked if he could come over to the base early to help them out again. He was there until around 7:30 tonight helping out with all kinds of stuff. They didn't even check the stuff they had him do; they trusted that it was done correctly. He will be working with them again tomorrow for the final day of the show and then they head back to Pensacola. This has been quite an experience for him!

Sounds like he's getting a "test run" for the Job...I hope it works out. Regardless I'm glad he got this opportunity to show them his stuff. Praying for the best here. :thumbsup2

My only remaining concern is that no iasm may mean longer lines for the remaining "little kid" rides, like Dumbo.

I think Dumbo always has a much bigger line for just an average ride. The line at Aladdin's Magic Carpets seem to go faster, and it's closer to the Dole Whip. There's one in AK too (Dino something or other). And, with the refurb, MK is getting double Dumbo rides. IASM may have had the song, but at least it was a nice, indoor air conditioned ride to relax and escape the weather.

Mijo, great pictures and really cool.

Well if I clear my last Hurdle...this is the Best news every...Now If I can work on Figment.

Now, don't get rid of Figment. DDs (8,5) like Figment better than IASM and so do I. One year, there was no one there and we rode the ride 3 times without exiting and walking around to the labs. Last year, I could smell the skunk fart really soon when the ride started, so they may need to clean it. I even have Figment on my antenna and a collectible ballet plush Figment. We really wanted a picture with Figment, but I hear he only comes out a few times a year now. One spark of light . . .

That's how it seems to us but one never knows. Apparently, they still have one or two interviews to go. Some interviews had to be postponed due to the flooding down south so the official notifications have been set back a few weeks. Thanks for your prayers, Nate!

wow, any idea when he will know?

Notifications were supposed to be sent out at the end of May but that has been set back a few weeks now. We know there are still interviews to do but we don't know how many of them, if any, are for the crew chief position. He was told they will let him know as soon as they know, which could be some time before the official letters go out. It's tough waiting to hear but he's handling it very well; I'm the one going nuts! :rotfl: If he gets it, he will be joining them in Pensacola in either October or November for a 3-year tour.

End of an era today. I ran in the last installment of the Biltmore Classic 15K this morning on the grounds of the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. This was a huge fundraiser for the Asheville Kiwanis Club (950 entries X $40/person = big money for a one day fundraiser) and has been for the past 13 years. The Estate folks have said that their new stuff out near the winery has made it very difficult for them to let the Kiwanis host the event on the grounds, so they put the stops to it. Sort of stinks because it was a great race, but I understand the business part of it too (I think). Hate to see it end because now I'm gonna have to find another race in mid May that probably won't be able to compete with this one.

Bet it was really cool to see them up close and personal. Hoping for good news soon.

Does anyone know if they offer any perks for Disney stockholders, if so how many shares do you need. I want to start buying into Disney stock, I'm thinking 2012 will be a big year for them since they are planning alot of projects, I'm also thinking they will build another park based on Marvel Comics in the next few years. I could be way wrong but building another resort that has 2,000 rooms, something big has got to be in the works:confused3

Hey you were just over the Mountain from me...well several Mountains...but about an hour.

Ironically they also showed a special on McDonald's on Travel Channel today...and the Biltmore Village McD's made the top 10 list.

No idea...but interesting thought.

You might be able to find out somewhere on this site. LINK

I don't see the Marvel Park...but often wondered what would happen to the Marvel themed stuff at Universal and Islands of Adventure? :confused3

I would think that if you own 50.1% of their outstanding stock, you can do just about anything you want, including free premium annual passes for all of the Dads. As of Friday's market close, you would need about $33 billion. Let us know how it goes for you. :thumbsup2

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: Cool I'm a little less then 33 billion short right now, but if I win the Power Ball a few hundred times I might be close, If I had that kind of cash I would have a Dis Dad Resort Built (open only to official Dads with a member #):lmao::woohoo:

When Disney bought Marvel, they also bought the long-term contracts Marvel had with Universal. So Universal gets to keep using any Marvel characters they are already using (and I believe they have exclusive use), but they now have to make the licensing payments to Disney. The difficulty for Disney of a Marvel Universe park is that they would have to (at least as I understand Universal's existing deal) build it without using any of the characters currently in use at Universal, which is pretty difficult - no Spiderman, Dr. Doom, no Hulk, no Fantastic Four, etc. - the pickin's start gettin' pretty slim in a hurry.

Marval has over 5,000 characters, with Disney's movie magic, they can pop out movies and start a whole new craze of already existing characters. Is Iron Man part of Universal (I have no idea) This could be a start. In the fourms last week it was posted that Disneyland had Marvel items in the stores.

They didn't spend 4 billion bucks for nothing, they got something up there sleeve:confused3

I agree with Ron...it might not be a park for Marvel charactes ..BUT..I think they have something up their sleeve that has not been told yet.

I think that we might start seeing something Marvel based at DHS. Think about all that space that could be re-purposed around the backlot tour, etc. Not too mention the possibility of making DHS a fuller park for more cross marketing opportunities.

I think a little too much is being made about the 5000 characters. Yes, they have big ones like Spiderman and Iron Man, but included in that 5000 are lots of secondary character's like Spiderman's Mary Jane and Iron Man's Pepper Pots. Disney is not going to be making movies about them anytime soon.
On the other hand, I'm sure there are plenty of primary super-hero types that Disney is drawing up plans for.
I don't think Iron Man is over at Universal, but that doesn't mean he's not under contract over there. The lawyers will fight that one out, but he is a pretty prime candidate for Disney to start rolling out.

Be careful. My mentor at work bought Disney stock right before High School Musical 3 came out. As of last month, he's yet to make his initial investment back.
Maybe that's what he said...I don't really listen.:lmao:

According to the "official" release, Disney's purchase of Marvel was to get into the pocketbooks of boys. Between Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers, they've got girls spending millions on Disney. With the addition of Marvel, they can start doing the same thing, but with boys. Plus, (showing my geek colours here), there isn't a Captain America movie yet, so there's that. And, to answer someone else, yes, Iron Man is Marvel. What's funny is that Tony Stark (character) is an Alcoholic, so for Robert Downey Jr. to play him, well.

So, as far as a resort or something, you guys know better than I do. But a friend of mine has been reading comics for 25 years, so I just ask him. (he's 29, so... his whole life)

Did you all see the tragic news? :scared1: It's a Small World will be closed August to October, during our trip. Whatever will I do without getting stuck on the ride at the end when the boats are unloading, and I get to hear that song 10 times in a row!!! I guess I can go to Epcot and hear the Figment song. http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/guides/magickingdom/fan-small.htm
NOOOOOOOO!!!

Now I'm going to be forced to spend more time riding the Mountains. Curse my rotten luck! Last time I was there, the Hall of Presidents was being refurbished. What a cruel world.

As a Disney stockholder, I can tell you firsthand. The benefits and perks from owning stock in Disney include:

1. A stock certificate.
2. Any gains your investment might earn.
3.

Well, I guess that's about it. But it is kinda fun to walk around WDW like you own the place. Until people start yelling at you for cutting in line, anyway. :rolleyes1

Another factor to add to the subject around the same time they bought Marvel, they also bought out the creator of Halo and made him the head of something, also they hired a director that makes movies geared more towards kids over 10.

Disney is not out to lose, the Pres of Disney is around our age (40's) I think they are looking for new exciting things to draw in the crowds.

If they are spending the money, they are expecting a big return, and I think they will suceed.

Most of the characters at universial have been rubbed in the ground, come on you can only make so many Spiderman & Hulk movies before it gets old. people are looking for something new:confused3

I get a nice full color brochure about the company once per year. And an occasional dividend on what I own. A decade or more ago my stock split and my share count increased. Otherwise, I know that I own a small part of the magic. That's about it. No special treatment, no special discounts. But then I don't have anywhere near a portfolio that might warrant special treatment either.
