Hi, My name is Brian. I am addicted to WDW.

Lets face it, once I get on that plane headed to WDW, the rest of the world does not exist till I return..

:dancer::welcome::dancer: Brian to The Dis Dads, Emma's Dad will be around to give you your official member # :woohoo:

Awesome! What does a VIP pass get you, a ride along? :rotfl2:
Post some pictures and good luck to your son!

It gets us special, reserved seating and we don't have to park off site and take a shuttle to the base. We are meeting our son at his apartment in Largo and riding in with him. It's possible he may get a ride in Fat Albert this weekend but we won't since we're not active military! Seven blue jets go to the shows. The #7 jet is actually a two-seater F-18 and that pilot acts as the liason for the show; he doesn't fly during the shows. His Crew Chief gets to fly to/from the shows with him! That's the job all of the crew chiefs want but it's very tough to get. We're really praying our son gets this 'cause he really wants it. Go Blue Jets!
Photos to follow! :cool1:

Welcome, Brian!

Dude!?!?!?! WTH?:confused3
:scared1:
I literally had to pick my jaw up off the floor.
:lmao::lmao: Looks like he found the open bar, I was kinda hoping that lady was going to knock him out:lmao:
Dang. Just, dang. What is his DJ name?? The B--b slapper??
This is why one shouldn't get plastered while DJing someone's wedding. I don't know what was worse the 'drumming' or the mic skillz? :mic:

It seems like the lady was his wife or g/f. She didn't even flinch when he started playing the 'bongos' :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I was wondering if any of you guys wanted to see a clip of how not to DJ at someone's wedding?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZP4Ugev82I

It is a short clip.. about 1 minute.

Allright everyone...next up I want to dedicate this one to all the Ladies...especially that hot smokin' Bride over there... :drinking1

(Jimmy Buffet playing...)
I really do appreciate
The fact you sittin' here
Your voice sounds so wonderful
But you face don't look to clear.

So barmaid bring a pitcher
Another round of brew
Honey why don't we
Get Drunk and....

We get 3 weeks sick time and 3 weeks of "annual leave". It's a nice benefit to be able to use the sick time for dr. appts. and when the kids are sick without having to burn vacation days. Of course, the vast majority of my sick time goes unused, and I can only cash out so much whenever I retire. I think I have 2 months banked now that I'll probably never use.

Our tenure determines how much vacation time we get. I currently get 3 weeks, but in December when I hit 10 years, I'll start getting 4 weeks. But we also get 12 holidays, 3 personal days (that we can take in 4, 6 or 8 hr increments for things like doctor's appts, sick kids, etc) and 7 sick days per year (that we can use for ourselves or to take care of sick family members). Everything but the holidays accrue and rollover into the next year and keep accruing until you either use them or they reach 28 days then they stop. I did actually reach the 28 day point for sick time a few months back and finally started taking a day here or there. Everything unused cashes out if I leave the company, except for the sick days. We also have a system in place where if someone is completely used up on their time - a co-worker could "gift" time if so desired. It worked out really well last year for a co-worker who got really, really sick and was hospitalized for a month. All of his time was used up pretty quickly, and then several co-workers chipped in and gifted him a day her and there, so he ended up not having any lost wages by the time he returned to work.

Here are the ADR's I booked for our September free dining trip. A couple of these are old favorites, but 4 are new places. Any recommendations as to what items I should try off the menu?

Sat., Sept. 18 (arrival): Dinner at Chef Mickey's (for the kids, obviously).
Sun., Sept. 19 (Magic Kingdom): Dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern.
Mon., Sept. 20 (Animal Kingdom): Dinner at Kona Cafe (date night with DW).
Tues., Sept. 21 (Epcot): Dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe.
Wed., Sept. 22 (DHS): Dinner at 50's Prime Time Cafe.
Thurs., Sept. 23 (Epcot): Lunch at Le Cellier.
Fri., Sept. 24 (Magic Kingdom): Dinner at Tony's Town Square.

We've never been to Chef Mickey's, Kona Cafe, 50's PT, or TTS before.

Also, any recommendations for CS meals? My kids and I are not generally adventurous eaters. By this, I mean that we normally consider tacos to be an exotic meal. But it's nice to break from the pizza/burger routine after a while.

Thanks guys! popcorn::

That's a nice roster. I've never been to Kona Cafe either - but hope to on our next trip.

I was just looking over plans for our October trip, and it looks like I miscounted our Dining Plan credits

I hate it when that happens! I've done that twice. :headache:

So I'm trying to decide between the following:

1. Cancel Teppen Edo ADR and eat dinner at Food & Wine booths/World Showcase CS on Monday evening.
2. Cancel Whispering Canyon Cafe ADR and eat CS at either DTD or at the Poly on Tuesday evening.
3. Just bite the bullet and pay for either Teppen Edo or Whispering Canyon Cafe out-of-pocket

At the moment, I'm leaning toward canceling Teppen Edo. We were planning on a leisurely "graze-around-the-world" lunch at Food & Wine booths on Thursday afternoon, but there should be plenty of options to try more new things on Thursday anyway. And we have our Akershaus birthday-dinner for the Bug on Thursday night, so we probably don't want to eat too heavy of a lunch anyway.

Any thoughts? Am I giving up an experience that the kids would really enjoy by canceling Teppen Edo?

I'd cancel Teppen Edo.

TTS is OK. We've never had a bad meal there, but I also don't recall having a spectacular one either. I recommend splitting a plate of spaghetti and meatballs with your DW. Push the last meatball to her side of the plate with your nose, then slurp the same noddle until you lock lips. Photos are required, video would be better.

:lmao::rotfl:

Never been to Teppen Edo, so I don't know what you'd be missing. We love the shenanigans at WCC.

So do we!! The entire family has decided we must go back every trip now.

I was going to push my salad towards her instead, since I wouldn't want to eat the rabbit food anyway. :thumbsup2

Good thinking. Push a salad towards your wife. And as long as you're at it, tell her that yes, those jeans do make your @$$ look fat. Let me know how that goes for you. :rotfl2:

I just can't wait to hear how that turns out! :rotfl2:

I've heard some stories. Part of me wants to disobey on purpose.

Oh do it. It's actually quite fun to mess with them, and to watch what happens next. I've done that several times. I just adds to the overall fun!

Oh man. That's just wrong. But she certainly didn't flinch... in fact, it looked like she moved over in preparation for it. Perhaps that's just part of their act? :confused3

Way cool! I sure hope it all works out for him.

No Crystal Palace or Tusker House for this trip. Given Squeaker's aversion to head characters right now (he cowers from them), we're only doing character meals that focus on face characters (the princesses).

When we took DS just before he turned 3 he would look at any character and call them by name but if they came within 5 feet of him he would run. Our first meal happened to be at the Garden Grill in The Land on our first night there. Chip was the first one around to the table. After seeing DS was freaked out it was like Chip switched into a completely different mode; I swear he spent 10 minutes working with DS, first having DW and I touch his hand (paw), then pet his arm, all the time moving very slowly. Eventually he got DS into the act and from then on he had no fear of characters at all, it was all we could do to pull him away. I really think of that kind of moment whenever anyone questions why we go so often.

The princess thing is pretty cool too, you'll definitely get some good picks he will thank you for one day. This past trip I wanted to eat at Akershus just because of the food. DW thought it was a little weird considering we only have a son and we were taking him to a Princess dining meal but went along. It was hilarious the way the princesses interacted with DS, I really think they get a bit tired of table after table of little princesses so when they get to a boy at a table they really interact. A tip would be to go to the gift shop in England, for about $8 you can buy a foam crown that kind of looks like the one Prince John had in Robin Hood. All the princesses referred to him as their prince charming (and DW and I as the King and Queen) and he was grinning ear to ear the whole meal!

We're off bright and early tomorrow for the Department of Defense Day air show at Andrews AFB. Our son was able to get us VIP Passes, courtesy of the Blue Angels! It doesn't appear that he will know this weekend if he has been accepted as a new Crew Chief as the interviewing process is a few weeks behind. However, he has been able to work with them again since they arrived early today.

Very cool for you guys and extra cool for your son. I'm sure you guys are extremely proud of him but its always cool from a son's point of view when you can do something special like that for your parents. Hope you have good weather and a great day!

I can't complain about how my company has it set up. Vacation time is tenure based - I think I get 3 weeks now, and it goes up the longer you've been there. Unused vacation gets carried over year to year, up to 30 days worth.
We also earn 8 hours of personal time per month. This also carries over, up to 240 hours.
They do have a system where, at any time, you can cash in your vacation or personal time.
I'm salaried, so I have a lot of flexibility in my hours. If I need to leave at noon for DD4's preschool graduation (like for example, today) I can. However, being in IT we have to take rotating after-hours coverage and occasional nights and weekends. They figure it all balances out. Just this past Tuesday, I came back into the office to install a project from 7-10:30pm. Wednesday morning at 10, the Executive VP calls me into his office, thanks me for all the hard work and tells me to take the rest of the day off. :thumbsup2

I can't complain too much myself, really. I'm salaried as well, and really it's more about flexibility than anything else. The policies in place regarding using sick time are really geared more for the hourly staff (of which we have about 45% hourly team members at our HQ in CA). The salaried team just manages and shifts time around as needed to get those appointments in and really doesn't document it - since we all work pretty crazy hours from time to time anyway, with all the travel and outside meetings we do. The real kicker of course comes when you are laid up and sick in bed for a multi-day stretch. But back to shifting things around, many times my day will be from morning until late evening or even later... so I just delay my office arrive or start time as needed - or take comp time when I need to, kind of like you described for your project. Some days I'm in bright and early by 7:30, others not until 10 or 11. And working from home a day or two per week helps balance it all out as well. So, yeah, I can't complain much. It's a pretty good gig.

The one thing that I do really pine for from my last employer was the vacation time. After just 7 years I was up to 6 weeks vacation - plus all of the various sick days and holidays. That was great. It was a real bummer being laid off from that gig and having go back down to 2 weeks when I hired in at this company. But that's the way it goes sometimes. I've enjoyed my 3 weeks the past 4 years, and can't wait for it move up to 4 weeks in December. After all - more time potentially means more possiblilty for visiting DL or WDW! And then if I manage to reach 15 years, it'll jump up to 6 weeks...so who knows, perhaps I'll have my 6 weeks back again in a few more years.

Ugh.
I hate letting myself get dragged in to a battle of wits with the unarmed.
I think I need to restrain myself from reading threads other than this one on this board today.

I very rarely venture anymore. Which one were you reading today?

And speaking of trolling the boards, has anyone seen our resident muckraker, DisneyFed, anywhere around? I know he's getting ready for deployment, but hopefully he checks in before he leaves.

I actually strayed out onto the Family Board and looked around.

Clearly nothing out there I need to comment on.

I even checked out the "Mom's" thread. Those ladies don't talk that much with each other there...nor do they go back and read what they missed. Several DIS Dad's...myself included...went over last Sunday and wished them a Happy Mother's Day. I think it went totally unnoticed. :confused3

I noticed Barry's Spousal Unit is over there.

Yeah, she sees how much fun we have and she's trying to rally them up a little. She's not getting very far with it. :confused3

I allowed my interest to get piqued by the thread about schools banning silly bracelets (which, for the record, I don't care about at all). The problem is that the thread tripped one of my MAJOR personal pet peeves, having dealt with the issues personally as a child, involving overbroad school rules. What could have been a reasonable discussion degenerated when one other poster insisted on posting information that is simply factually/legally incorrect, and I can't stand seeing the public get misinformed about core Constitutional principles.
