Wow! Lots of sickness around here. Did I pick a good time to show back up, or what? :rotfl:

Seriously, I hope everyone gets back to health quickly. :thumbsup2

Arbys vs Hardees? I prefer Arbys. The ones around here are better than the Hardees. But, the Hardees are really greasy too. That may factor into my preference. I've never had gray RB there either. It seems that some fast food places are better in some regions than others. :confused3

Hey! Guess what? We leave in 10 days 20 hours. :banana::banana::banana: :dance3: :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: :dance3: :banana::banana::banana:

I should not have asked that question.
Apparently, the answer is Squeaker, diagnosed this morning with scarlet fever. :-|

That PTO I've been banking for our October Disney trip is dwindling much faster than planned.

Let this be a lesson to all of us:
Do Not Buy the Kids a Pet Monkey Off Craigslist!!

Just to be safe you might want to wrap the family in hazmat suits until its time to leave.

It's been awhile. Maybe a thread or two ago. I have been on but not doing much posting. As a DIS dad I have been busy creating new members. We have a third little man on the way. Come August we will have a forth man in the house. How my wife does it being the only female amazes me.

We are in a transition year again. We have to wait for awhile for the new baby to grow up to come to disney again. We figure 6 months old and he is ready to go. As we speak the price of fuel continues to climb making our RV too expensive to drive. That being said I am wondering if any of you could give me a review of the family suites at all star?

Well put us down for Feb 2011. Update to add my name, it's mark, and look for me to post more often now. Thanks everyone for listening.

Snocrossmechanic. #23

Hey first congratulations on the new baby awesome! We stayed at the suites in Dec 07 they were pretty nice it's basically 2 rooms put together you have a small fridge, microwave, coffepot and a little sink area (kitchenette)and 2 full bathrooms!. It has a queen bed in the separate bedroon with a door a pull out double couch, a pullout chair and a pullout ottoman the kids did great in the chair and ottoman just the right size . If you have any more questions shoot me a pm.

:thumbsup2 That's so awesome.

My eldest took piano for a couple of years and then quit, now is learning guitar, but did an awesome job in his recitals those years ago. My middle plays by ear, and my daughter wants to take lessons. Personally I believe learning piano is the best way to learn reading for any other instrument, except guitar - but then perhaps that's because I took lessons for nearly 12 years. Many recitals and competitions in my past. I love to watch the kids in recitals. I'm sure you are proud indeed.

I tried to pick up the guitar many years ago, but lost interest. I'm just glad that DD enjoys the piano and has no plans to stop playing. I DO need to invest in a new piano though. The one we have at home keeps losing it's tune after a few months.

I should not have asked that question.

Oh no! I had Scarlet Fever when I was young... and it SUCKED. Our whole family had it. We were all so sick... and had only one bathroom... so we had to do all our vomiting outside. It was the single most disgusting, scary sickness we ever had. Had to get a shot in the rear for it! Definitely praying for you guys!

Cool! Tell Emma we said great job! :thumbsup2

Will do!! :thumbsup2

hey don, congrats on the piano recital!!! i spent sunday watching dd dance all day in a comp. i cant believe she only has one more year to go. her recitals are in june, one friday night, two on saturday and one on sunday. the one mother was crying last night when a few of the girls came off the stage, she said im gonna be a mess next year, im crying already!!:lmao: ill be ok till she dances her solo next year at the recital, i know then it will hit me that shes grown up and that was it. just another phase of life i guess, just like the bifocals im getting next week from the eye dr.!:scared1: im gettin old!!!!:lmao::lmao:

Time sure does fly, doesn't it? Enjoy the remaining dances! :dance3:

Hey guys- haven't been on in a while..

You can add 4 from the Goofy + 3 family to the ranks of the walking wounded. In the last week, we got hit with: a baby with an ear infection, a boy who had to see the dermatologist for some "gross stuff", a daughter who needs a tonsilectomy, and a wife who made a trip to the periodontist. Not sure what the wife's problem is, but the solution may involve tissue FROM A CADAVER!!:scared1: Her new name: Frankenwife. I on the other hand, am feeling fine. Everyone's going to be fine, but the Flex Spending Account is already exhausted.:headache:

And I thought of you ^^^ when I was at my daughter's first dance recital on Saturday. Like the sap I am, I teared up when she took the stage. Seeing her dance was great, but sitting through the other 36 performances before sneaking out at intermission was rough. But my "dumb dad moment" of the spring was earlier in the week. You're not allowed to video-record the performance, so if you want to make a video, you have to do it during the dress rehearsal. That was our plan so we wouldn't have to pay for the professionally made version. Somehow, I screwed that up and wound up with a lovely 40-minute movie of the inside of the camera bag. Wife was :furious: Now, we'll have to buy the "official" version which isn't that big a deal..

:lmao: we have the same rules at our recitals. about 10 years ago i vol. to be an usher. that allows me to walk around during the recitals and my job, after everyone is seated is looking for cam corders. if we see someone taping, we walk up, tap them on the sholder and ask them to stop taping please. ( about 5 years ago we got a police sargent as an usher!)putting 800 women in one room you need someone with a stun gun!!!:lmao: we only had one problem a few years ago we had a new wife and an exwife come together. there were clumps of hair in the hallway of the auditorium.:lmao: its a shame grown adults cant behave for 5 hours for there kids.

just got back from the dentist, no root canal!!!!:woohoo: he popped the crown off and was able to fix what was there. now its off to wills eye in philly tomorrow for dw. hoping and praying we get good news there also!!!! we are leaving at 4:30am to beat the philly construction traffic. 8 am appointment. ill talk to you guys as soon as i can. thanks again for all the well wishes and prayers.we are hoping for the best!:thumbsup2

Well, add another one. 5 year old dd comes home from school on Friday and says her arm hurts - she fell off the monkey bars. But, she plays with older sister, so no big deal. She cries at bedtime about how much her arm hurts and we give her Motrin. Saturday, we visit cousins and she falls out of the tree. She complains about her same wrist hurting, but continues playing. At night, she cries about the pain and we give her Motrin. On Sunday, she plays soccer (in U8G division) and is pushed down. She complains about arm hurting but plays the rest of the game. She cries at night about the pain and we give her Motrin.

On Monday, we get an X-ray and she has a buckle fracture in her wrist. My guess is the fall from school, but who really knows. Her arm is in a cast until May 28 for a follow-up and see if the cast is removed. So, soccer season is over, T-ball season is over, her dance recital is 1st week in June, and we have a surprise trip to Disney in June after school is out.

My thoughts, prayers, and understanding goes out to all the other DisDads and their families who have medical issues. Some pixiedust: for us all!

OK fellow Dads. Cross your fingers for me.
The Bug INSISTS that she feels well enough to perform in her year-end dance recital tonight, and Squeaker has been a bundle of energy all afternoon and had no fever all day. Both have been on antibiotics for over 48 hours, so they shouldn't be contagious anyway.
T-45 minutes and counting to The Bug's dance recital.
If I don't post for a couple of days, its because I was wiped out in a massive dual-child meltdown at or after the recital! :scared1:

Woo hoo! We survived!

The Bug danced great:

And while Squeaker wasn't an angel, I wasn't motivated to try and sell him to the circus:

Even after stopping for ice cream on the way home, we got everyone to bed only about an hour and a half late. :goofy:

Did you guys see that Disney announced a new resort?
It's the Art of Animation Resort, is mostly family suites, and will have 4 wings - Little Mermaid, Lion King, Cars and Finding Nemo.

It should be ready sometime in 2012.

Thanks for the news flash... I hadn't heard about this. This is interesting: "to be located adjacent to Disney’s Pop Century Resort". I wonder if these are going to replace the existing buildings at POP or if they are breaking new ground in the area. OK... found the answer to my question in this BLOG:
"The hotel will be situated in a 65-acre plot close to the Pop Century Resort. This will enable Disney to re-use unfinished buildings that were originally earmarked for a second phase of construction of Pop Century, that was subsequently abandoned during the 2001 recession."

Woo hoo! We survived!

Sounds cool! I'm glad they're working on more options for families with more than 2 kids (like, say...mine!). It'll be nice to see that area finally used instead of sitting there abandoned, too.

OK... need some assistance here. Our family is traveling to Ohio to visit my folks this July for about a week. DW has expressed interest in making a 2 day trip up to Niagara Falls... and wants to include my parents in the trip. She especially wants to see/stay on the Canadian side of the falls. I'm looking for suggestions on where to stay/what to do/what to avoid, etc. Thanks in advance :thumbsup2

We've been twice, but both times were more than a decade ago. I cannot give you any good advice on where to stay. BUT, you'll definitely want to explore both sides. There is certainly more to do, and better views of the falls on the Canadian side - but the Canadian side is also pretty much like a little Las Vegas or other tacky tourist trap with all kinds of little "things to do" (read - spend money).

As far as the actual Falls go, the Maid of the Mist boats are incredible. There are launches on both sides. The boats will take you up the river right near the base of the falls and just sit there for a while. Also the Cave of the Winds is incredible (Canadian side), which takes you down underground to a couple of openings behind the falls themselves, as well as to a platform that is off to the side. You'll get very, very wet!

The horseshoe shaped falls are on the Canadian side, with an incredible view to be found at the restaurant there next to it.

On the American side, there is a park there where you can walk down next to the falls, and even cross a bridge out to Goat Island and you'll get to stand in between the American and Horseshoe Falls. It's a neat experience. I know I have a bunch of pics, but I think they're all printed, not scanned yet. But if so I'll post a couple. There is a Hard Rock Cafe there on the American side if you are so inclined to visit, and the tower on the Canadian side offers an incredible view, especially at nighttime when they turn on all of the rainbow lights and shine them onto the falls.

Here are a few pics Don from our trips to Niagara Falls in 1999. I do recall going there as a side trip while on business in the Buffalo area in 2003 or 4 as well. It was a neat experience.

Here I am with Harrison (my eldest) on the American side, overlooking the river and the Canadian side. The tower I mentioned in my previous post is in the background

Here's a view of one of the Maid of the Mist boats from the platform at the bottom of the Cave of the Winds (I think that's what it was called anyway) at the base of the Horseshoe Falls, on the Canadian side
