That's fantastic news! I recall you a few pages back mentioning that you had news but had to wait until it was "officially official". It was driving me nuts waiting to hear! Congratulations to both of you! I was already toying with the idea of heading up to La Crosse for the show. Let me know if he gets assigned to that one and I'll certainly make the trip!
This calls for a few more Blue Angel shots from this year's Milwaukee Show:

Sorry to have kept you in suspense! DS knew on July 1st but didn't want anything posted publicly until the official orders came through. It was killing me to wait! :lmao:

Concerning my Mother at Cape Canaveral in FLA. This was part of the road trip from heck. As I mentioned my mother was only happy when we were doing things she likes to do. Anything else she was miserable. Moaning and groaning. All the time. So I was younger with my future DW with me we decided to head to Cape Canaveral to see the launching/control site of the Apollo Lunar Moon program. I had always wanted to see where it all began since I was a kid. NOW....my mother is vocal and HATES anything to do with John Wayne or the Space Program. So I didn't tell her what we were doing but started heading down from WDW to the cape. As the trip went on she saw signs for the cape and kinda figured it out. That's when the attitude got worse.:scared1:

She started ripping the Space Program apart saying it was a waste of money, nothing good came from it, blah blah... :confused3 To add to her hatred was my father who was all THRILLED to go... plus he loves John Wayne..lol That burned her as well. Well she hated everything when we got there. All was boring. To make a long day/story shorter, NASA had erected a beautiful monument to all the astronauts that had passed over the years due to accidents. It's a truly amazing and wonderful monument. With little lights as stars and their names and dates and mission. Now she had just insulted the guy dressed up in full moon landing gear with helmet and the whole nine yards. He was trying to say hello and she went off on him. Was not a pretty site. So I get her outside for fresh air and we go to the wonderful monument. As we are there it is so quiet. Families are there reading and staring. There were a few people that were crying, a few were saying prayers. It was a time to reflect on those souls that had died for a thing they loved. They gave their lives to help enrich ours. We were all standing there with no noise. You only heard the sighs, the crying. THAT'S WHEN IT HAPPENED... being the space program fan that my mother is... she said out loud..... "THERE SHOULD BE MORE OF THOSE B.......s UP THERE......".

In all my life I have never been in a situation that went from silence to full out riot in 1.3 seconds......

Now you have heard the story.......:)
:sad1:

Welcome! Check out page one of this thread for a listing of all the DIS Dads and families who will be there in December. You can be added to the list, too.

sad day today in baseball today. the master mind behind the greatest baseball franchise , mr. george steinbrenner has passed away. r.i.p mr. steinbrenner.

At some point, did she at least realize how inappropriate and offensive her words were? Did she apologize?

I feel so bad for you. On one hand, you want to kill your mother for being so insensitive and rude. Unfortunately, she also put you and your family in a situation where others know she is with you and they could take it out on you (I hope not). Ugly all around.

hey clearscreen? did you take the plunge and move over to the tower for next month?:thumbsup2

Yes. We figured we know our kids, especially my 5 year old son. He loves everything about trains. The thought of being in the same building as the Monorail was enough to bring him to rapture.

Also, coming back late at night after dinner, fireworks, etc. and being able to get off the Monorail and get on an elevator without having to walk to another building really appealed to us. It ended up being an extra $50/night, but we thought it was worth it since it is the first trip for the kids.

As an aside, they still have MK view rooms available for the 1st two weeks of August at this late date. I guess the economy is hurting Disney too.

Welcome! With a name like Mark, I can tell that you are obviously a highly intelligent and good-natured fellow. :thumbsup2

Also, welcome to all the other new dads I haven't gotten around to welcoming yet!

So I'm guessing you're not a Red Sox fan...

Baseball certainly did lose an icon today. :sad1:

Hey guys!

Well I FINALLY got my laptop back after 2 weeks! Ugh. Dumb. IT. Department. It definitely goes to show my wife that we DO need 2 computers in our house. Now I'm just hoping that she'll run with all of those hints I've been dropping, and consider getting me one for my birthday. ;)
Never again do I want to be gone for a week of vacation just to come back to work and have the stupid thing be completely dead. Gone. Kaputz. And dividing my time between working at home on our computer (and thereby keeping the other 4 off of it all day long - which meant I DIDN'T get it in the evening or at night AT ALL... and using a lousy loaner that couldn't be hooked up to my scanners, printers, etc ... and using my DROID, though nice, is not the best keyboard in the world for posting to the boards with - just made for a crappy couple of weeks. So I pretty much (though not 100%) swore off almost all of my online activity for the duration. Big deep sigh - but it's good to be back now. :) ANYWAY - yeah, it's nice to be back, though I sure do have a lot of reading and skimming to do to get caught up.

TO all those who've joined this crazy crew in the past 3 1/2 weeks - welcome! You've joined a great group of guys.

I'll be back later this evening or in the morning with more. And, oh, yeah - I've already posted something over on DISDad's...for all you trivia junkies that have just been deprived of my fascinating little tidbits.

That's why we named our son Mark!:cool1:

Also, as a lifelong Yankees fan, it is a day of sadness on the Boss' passing. While we all, at various times, hated him with his tyrannical ways, petty outbursts and frequent "memos" which would always find their way to the papers, there is no doubt that he built the Yankees into what they are today. He purchased his share of the team from CBS for $10 million, I believe. What are they worth now? The formation of the YES Network (or Al Yankzeera as a local sports columnist calls it) was brilliant and is the model for other teams to follow. Although he has been out of it for a few years already, we all still pine longingly for that ridiculous backpage headline from the Boss after a tough loss. RIP.:sad1:

how much more for the mk view? :rolleyes1 what the hay, whats another 35 bucks a night at this point.:lmao: oh yes, the elevators are fun. when we were there last may, alot of people that go to chef mickeys use the elevators and it could get a bit full at times. people staying at bay lake towers use them to get to the walk way over to there tower. but all in all, we had a great time and it is an awsome place to stay. we are going back there next june. we have aps so we should get about 40 perc. or so off.you guys will have a great time!!!:thumbsup2

THanks!!

I think to upgrade to an MK view was $65-75 more per night. That would have been on top of the $50 more per night to upgrade to the tower with a Bay Lake View from the Garden Wing. We are not people who spend much time in our room and we are definitely going to watch the fireworks from other locations - California Grill, Narcoossee's, Main Street, etc., so we just could not justify (rationalize?) the MK view. Maybe we'll change our minds after the trip. There is always next year!

Kinda sad in a way. I was upset no doubt. My future DW was shocked to say the least. People around us were shocked as well. Was not a fun time leaving the cape. Kinda was a vacation killer for the day. But I guess you live and learn .. Right?

I agree with you Clearscreen. I use the rooms to sleep, shower, hold our stuff that's it. Most of the time the view does not matter. :cool1: I can not justify spending all that cash just for a view that we won't see that much. I am there for the parks. BUT on the other hand the DW is getting into views lately.... I hope this doesn't cost me in the future. :)

we just got a call from dws doctor at wills eye. all her path. test came back with no cancer!!! its been a long few weeks and dw is healing nicely. she ready to get her radiation treatments going and get this over with. :thumbsup2

Being the NEWBIE, I have no idea your DW was ill and going through this. I am thrilled for both of you with this fantastic news. My prayers and thoughts go out to you and your DW.... Angelo
