Our Navy son received his official orders today: he is now a U.S. Navy Blue Angels Selectee!!!! :cool1::banana::woohoo::yay:

He will be finishing up his duty at NAF Washington, DC, on September 30th and reporting to Pensacola soon after! This will be a 3-year tour and he will begin training as a Crew Chief for one of the 7 show jets shortly after his arrival and indoctrination. He will be traveling to approximately 1/2 of the Blue Jets' 36 air shows per year. CONGRATULATIONS, SON! Do I sound like one proud father?!?!?
:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

This is my first post to the Dis Dads thread. I'm still learning the ropes of the boards, but I've always been a Disney Freak and now I'm raising two more!
Welcome!

That… Sir… Is one mighty accomplishment.

Congratulations to your boy and we all wish him well as he embarks on an assignment that both an honor and a huge challenge. He has good reason to walk just a bit taller. As parents, we’re all overjoyed when our kids meet and surpass the challenges ahead of them, but I do believe that you must be just about to bust at the seams. Wear that new avatar with pride and thanks for letting me know exactly where I’m going to be on May 1st next year (Beaufort here I come). :thumbsup2
I'm bursting alright! There is a lot of competition for these positions so it is quite an accomplishment. And, I've been wearing my avatar for a week......on a BA hat! :lmao:

I am Honored to get to use my 1000th post to Congradulate Mijo on your son's acceptence into The Blue Angels Team:thumbsup2, This is a HUGE accomplishment the glow around you must be blinding:goodvibes

Maybe your son will get to do the Millville NJ date, we could have a mini Dad get together:goodvibes I haven't seen The Blue Angels since I was a Cub Scout at Lakehurst NB. My DS would love to see them:woohoo:

Once again Congratulations! And The Best Of Luck to your son on his new assignment:woohoo::thumbsup2
Millville may be his "home show" although I think he's leaning towards Andrews, since that's where he is stationed now. It may actually be easier for us to get to Andrews than Millville since it's a straight shot down 95. However, if he is assigned to the Millville show, we will probably be there since we won't be seeing him very often for a few years. He will be re-enlisting on the 30th at the WWII Memorial in Annapolis and we will be there. Another proud moment coming up!

Cool!! Congrats!:thumbsup2
What are some other cool "Man" jobs?

Anything Dirk Pitt does! :lmao:

:welcome: WELCOME TO THE DIS DAD'S CLUB! :welcome:

You have been added to the DIS Dad's Club list :thumbsup2

Well, I've been off the grid for a few days. Great time camping with some old friends, then a doc appt for the kids yesterday. Good news - neither kid needs to have their tonsils removed! :woohoo: I fell about 10 pages behind, so I was only able to pick out a few items to touch on...

That's why we have Freezin "The Enforcer" Rafiki around:rotfl2::rotfl2:
:thumbsup2

So is it just the dads....no one else? Will check out the link in FreezinRafiki's sig. I will have to find out all the details. lol :) I am always up for a trip... weekend get away....
It wasn't something we planned - it just so happened that a bunch of us all had vacations planned for that time. We're hoping to get some event(s) together. It would be awesome if you could make it down!

:scared1::scared1::scared1: Don't tell me that. I have a trip this October with the family plus my mom and dad. Let's just say that my dad doesn't do well on vacations when things don't go as planned. And my DW hates that. So I'm hoping that he's on his best behavior so I don't have to "listen" to DW go on an on about it. I just have read so many posts where somebody has gone with their parents or the in-laws and the trip had no magic or anything to it. Have to think positive, have to think positive but something just wont let the thought go. Oh well, whatever happens at least it'll happen at WDW, right!!!

I'll chip in on the traveling with in-laws. We've done it frequently and have had good and bad experiences. When one of them starts getting hard to deal with, I start tending to my kids and let DW handle her parents!

I have a great story about the side trip to Cape Canaveral .... if anyone wants to hear about it ask. lol...my mother's true colors came out.
Well, it would probably be off-topic for this thread. Go ahead and share it!

That's fantastic news! I recall you a few pages back mentioning that you had news but had to wait until it was "officially official". It was driving me nuts waiting to hear! Congratulations to both of you! I was already toying with the idea of heading up to La Crosse for the show. Let me know if he gets assigned to that one and I'll certainly make the trip!
This calls for a few more Blue Angel shots from this year's Milwaukee Show:

Welcome aboard! Good to see the torch is being passed on to the next generation! Speaking of which, I was getting DS3 dressed the other day. I was standing in front of his closet, looking through shirts. Mickey Mouse, Lightning McQueen, Buzz Lightyear, Grumpy, Pluto, the Fab Four, Tow Mater, Pinocchio, etc etc etc. Then I found something odd. A plain blue shirt with no Disney Characters on it. Now how the heck did that get in there?:rotfl2::rotfl:

Normally around 250 pages or so. This has been an interesting challenge at times... check out the endings of the previous DDC threads... :rolleyes1

I just wanted to post this again because I thought it was a touching story and I wanted to make sure everyone saw it.
BTW guys, the post I linked was made by Maroo, who came by to give us some background info when we were doing the GKTW fundraiser here on the DDC. I hope you'll check out this sad and touching story.

Glad to see I'm not the only one, it's pretty sad when you're packing to go away and figure that your're gone for 11 days so at 2 shirts a day, couple of long sleeves in case it gets chilly, and of course they all need to be Disney themed, so.....we just need to figure out all the Disney shirts we are not taking.

It's gotten to the point where I can't even help Owen get ready in the morning on vacation because depending on what park we are going to there are certain shirts she wants him to wear for the characters there.

I think she's training him to be a future park character, the good news is since he's really tall it would have to be Goofy!

Concerning the Dis Dad Club getting together beginning of December.....Well the DW is working on it. Like I said she said "Why Not". We enjoy traveling. Plus it gives me more time at WDW. She is also planning a one day trip this Sunday to Washington, DC with our older DS as a surprize. Fly in early, see the sights, than flight out late. :cool1:

Well, it would probably be off-topic for this thread. Go ahead and share it!

Concerning my Mother at Cape Canaveral in FLA. This was part of the road trip from heck. As I mentioned my mother was only happy when we were doing things she likes to do. Anything else she was miserable. Moaning and groaning. All the time. So I was younger with my future DW with me we decided to head to Cape Canaveral to see the launching/control site of the Apollo Lunar Moon program. I had always wanted to see where it all began since I was a kid. NOW....my mother is vocal and HATES anything to do with John Wayne or the Space Program. So I didn't tell her what we were doing but started heading down from WDW to the cape. As the trip went on she saw signs for the cape and kinda figured it out. That's when the attitude got worse.:scared1:

She started ripping the Space Program apart saying it was a waste of money, nothing good came from it, blah blah... :confused3 To add to her hatred was my father who was all THRILLED to go... plus he loves John Wayne..lol That burned her as well. Well she hated everything when we got there. All was boring. To make a long day/story shorter, NASA had erected a beautiful monument to all the astronauts that had passed over the years due to accidents. It's a truly amazing and wonderful monument. With little lights as stars and their names and dates and mission. Now she had just insulted the guy dressed up in full moon landing gear with helmet and the whole nine yards. He was trying to say hello and she went off on him. Was not a pretty site. So I get her outside for fresh air and we go to the wonderful monument. As we are there it is so quiet. Families are there reading and staring. There were a few people that were crying, a few were saying prayers. It was a time to reflect on those souls that had died for a thing they loved. They gave their lives to help enrich ours. We were all standing there with no noise. You only heard the sighs, the crying. THAT'S WHEN IT HAPPENED... being the space program fan that my mother is... she said out loud..... "THERE SHOULD BE MORE OF THOSE B.......s UP THERE......".

In all my life I have never been in a situation that went from silence to full out riot in 1.3 seconds......

Now you have heard the story.......:)

All I can say is... WOW. It's one thing not to like/enjoy something... but to not respect something like that?!? Incredible.

On another subject... I hadn't been very interested in taking any Disney cruises, but for some reason I thought I'd look into a cruise on the Dream for next year. I just noticed you cannot book a sea/land package through Disney's web site for cruises on the Dream. I found that to be very odd. Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the ship hasn't sailed yet?

At some point, did she at least realize how inappropriate and offensive her words were? Did she apologize?

I feel so bad for you. On one hand, you want to kill your mother for being so insensitive and rude. Unfortunately, she also put you and your family in a situation where others know she is with you and they could take it out on you (I hope not). Ugly all around.
