The DIS Book Club Discussion Group: Round 5 - The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake

The message on my library's downloadable e-book/audiobook site:
"You are patron 7 out of 13 on the waiting list."

So I'm still trying to get my hands on this book without buying it...not giving up!

Subbing in. Just downloaded it to my phone (Kindle app :cool1:). Have a paranormal smut book to finish today, then I will expand my horizons, lol. Excerpt sounds good.

I'm so excited to join this group! I just downloaded it to my Kindle and will begin it this weekend. :goodvibes

I'm only through Chapter 4 and am absolutely loving this book. Can't wait to hear other readers' comments.

I had the Kindle for iPhone app and had downloaded the first chapter (or excerpt or whatever snippet they let you read for free, lol) and was getting sucked in, but I'm so stubborn & didn't want to buy the thing. It SHOULD be available @ my library, right? God-given right & all that...?

Remembered some Borders gift cards tonight. Went there, broke down and bought the darn book. :thumbsup2

Love the comments so far, can't wait to dive in now that I don't have to wait for 69 readers to read it before me! :rotfl2:

Got it! I was able to snag the only copy of the book in a store near Mount Vernon when we were there this week. Haven't started reading as yet, however we start a drive home from Chantilly this afternoon so I will have eight hours or so to finish up The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and to start our latest book club pic!
OT - I want to tell my American friends that Mount Vernon is immaculate and a real tribute to one of your greatest leaders. Also, Washington, D.C. is pretty fantastic too! We are in Chantilly at the Staybridge Suites just lounging this morning after four whirlwind days of sightseeing. Great trip that will be capped off by Brickfair today - my son is a LEGO fanatic! Happy Sunday everyone! :goodvibes

Wait at the library is down to 98 days. It looks like they got a 5th copy, which begs the question: Why does the whole Atlanta library system only have 5 copies of this book? That seems very low for a popular new release... though there are a bunch of things that confuse me about libraries here vs back home so maybe I'm just expecting things that would never come to pass. :rotfl2:

I suspect the online catalog is just wrong, but it's the same catalog you can access in the library, so unless I wanna drive to every branch I have no way to test that theory. Kinda entertaining to watch, at least. :surfweb:

Well, I'm #30 on the library waitlist, so I decided to buy the book. Maybe I'll donate it to my library when I'm done! :goodvibes

I finished reading the book last night. I'm looking forward to seeing what folks thought of the book.

Still haven't started! Our trip home from D.C. didn't allow for it because it was too dark by the time I didn't need to navigate. Last night I was just too tired to start. I'll check the first page but I hope I'm not too far behind the timeline.

Don't worry, I haven't started either. I downloaded it to my Kindle but I have been too busy to start and I am trying to finish another book. We'll catch up! ;)

I must admit to you all , I'm like Harry from "When Harry Met Sally".
I always read the last few pages of a book first , that way I know going in how it ends...:rotfl2:

I began reading the book and it took me a few days to get into it. By Chapter 3, I was hooked. :)

Any other first thoughts?

Hi All!

I'm home from Cali and trying to catch up myself. By today, we were supposed to have finished Part I. Being that a lot of us are behind, would anyone be opposed to my adjusting the schedule by a day or two?

I thought I was keeping up on this thread, but I don't remember seeing a reading schedule. Can you link to it?
I'm done with the book, but want to review what we're discussing.

**Oh, nevermind***
I see you've edited the first post and I never bother to start at page one anymore.
