It pains me to have to defend the Duggars, and I'm really not - i think they're creepy in a big way, BUT -
You have to remember that they are practicing a religion - these are not just the views of a normal American family that attends the local Methodist Church. And it is obviously a very narrow religion - but no more so than an Amish or Mennonite community, is it? And we've only seen two hours of their lives - and two edited hours at that. They may very well have a great deal of the regular love and affection all of our families have. Those children obviously want to replicate their parent's lifestyle choices, and it seems from what i remember of their financial empire that there are several businesses that could support marriages for the children, and large families for them as well.
Again, totally creeped out by them, but not so willing to assume the children aren't loved and cared for by the parents as well as their older siblings.
