Well, Hello all my Transportation Board Pals! Once again, it's February, which means that the travel challenged debster family has a trip to FL planned. This was a 'non-Disney' year, but I'm posting anyway, in the hopes that our experiences can help.

We were scheduled to fly BOS to RSW on Weds February 10th on a non-stop Delta flight. On Tuesday the 9th my phone rang at about 8:30am. It was my cousin, who was also flying down, to stay with her parents in the same neighborhood that we go to. Her flight had already been canceled for Tuesday the 9th, as they were connecting through BWI. At that time, the forecast was for massive snow up and down the east coast, coming into Boston on Weds. After our experience 3 years ago where we were canceled due to ice and snow, and it took Delta three days to get us out, we decided to go in on a rental car with my cousin, her husband, and 2 kids and drive down. There were 4 adults, and 3 12 year olds in a Chevy Tahoe.

We got on the road about 3pm on Tuesday, and drove up until about 2am the next morning when we stopped in Triangle, VA at a Ramada Inn. We slept for a few hours, and were back on the road at about 6:15am. We arrived in Bonita Springs, FL at 11:45 that night. We drove through snow in DE, MD, DC, and VA. The ride was not a lot of fun, but the kids were troupers, and we really did have a lot of laughs.

The kicker to this whole thing for us, is that because the storm fizzled out, our flight actually took off basically on time!!!! So, again, live and learn. I'm confident if we had not driven, there would have been delays, just because that's our luck. ;)

So, even with going on past experience, we guessed wrong, but I think given the circumstance, I would make the same decision again, based on all the weather predictions that were coming in.

And I am now THRILLED to report, our flight home was uneventful and on time!!! So, we have another winter travel adventure under our belts.

The moral of the story, at least for me, is to be flexible, roll with whatever punches get thrown your way, and book your flights as one ways!! Even though we no-showed for our outbound flight, because it was not tied to our return flight, there were no repercussions!

Hope everyone else has calm, uneventful winter travels.
