I know that in most cases I could buy what I can cheaper, but I was brought up that in the summer you gardened and canned. It was always nice to bring up a jar of tomatoes in the dead of winter, and have that fresh taste.

My favorite part is to listen for the lids to pop telling me they all sealed! What a great feeling!

Yes exactly, hearing that pop was so wonderful. Sometimes I would do zucchini and tomatoes and that would heat up so nice.

Together? That sounds wonderful! Did you season it with oregano or basil or anything?

:rotfl: I'm going to have to keep a beady eye out for matching tees and tie dye crocs... :rotfl:

 Thanks for the compliment! It's actually something I have on my development plan at work so I should be doing something about it. If I tell people I know that I'm shy they just laugh because I'm obviously not around them... I just squirm when I have to talk to strangers!

FEEL FREE TO IGNORE THE REST OF THIS POST EVERYONE - IT'S MY THERAPY

Actually - I think it goes deeper than that... I've been thinking about it since yesterday and since I trust you guys I'm going to share this - like therapy!

It's a trust issue... my dad was in the army so we travelled a lot when I was a kid and I found it hard to make friends, I was bullied a couple of times, but worse than that had a few so called friends turn against me. When I got to uni I met a girl who became my first proper friend, kind of like a soul mate I suppose, over the years she managed to get me to share everything with her. At the time I knew in my heart there was somthing wrong with her, she would hide in her room for days at a time, lie to me about things etc and then when I would beg her to come out of her room she would be back to her normal self. She didn't just lie to me, to her family too, she failed a year and had to go back but she didn't tell her parents. I should have done something but I wasn't brave enough to rock the boat. Then in my final year she went MIA again. I assumed she was in her room as the TV was on so just left it for a couple of days. Then I got a letter through the post, she was in hospital, at her parents, having just attempted suicide.

I know it was a cry for help - because she did it in her parent's house. I had nightmares for days after because what if she'd done it in her room in our halls, and no one had looked for her?? It turns out she had depression and they started treating her. I went up to visit her a few months later, but once again wasn't brave enough to ask her all the questions I had... still have... about why she did it... and why if we were such good friends she didn't ask for my help. I've not seen or spoken to her since... (6 years) I just can't do it, it was a very stressful time for me those months after, and I nearly messed up my degree, I'm not sure I can go through stress like that again.
Sometimes I want to ring her up -to tell her how well I'm doing and that I'm married, but part of me knows that I won't find out about the real things that are happening in her life...

So there you go... if the new couple next door had been in their forties or older I would have stopped to chat and been the pleasant neighbour... but they are our age, and that freaks me out because I'd love to have some "friends" living next door, but I'm still too scared to make proper friends and am keeping everyone at arm's length.

Ok now I'm crying. I don't expect anyone to respond to this, but I've bottled it up for so long it feels good to have it down on "paper" and I'd like to post it for that same reason...

Hi, all. John and I are home and the house is so QUIET without the kids. This is the FIRST TIME we've ever been home without them. We are eating out every night this week, going to go to a party on Tuesday for the 4th, going to an outlet mall tomorrow, eating brunch at a nice place one day, getting lots of DVDs to watch (I've not seen the original POC yet) and then going to the movies and a dessert place one night. I know it'll be fun, but John and I both are going to miss them terribly!

Well, y'all were very chatty since yesterday. Miss anything important?

What a way to spend the week!!! I am very jealous. What I wouldn't give for one movie, but a whole week of wonderful plans. WOW!! Enjoy it as you certainly both deserve it.

 Everyone, hope you all had a nice weekend.

Mom is back in the hospital. Its a bacterial infection, they say its either from her port or the lining of her heart.

Prayers and :wizard: that she can be quickly and easily treated and on her way home quickly. :grouphug:

I have a new update on the firemen..and this is a better update! I just checked his carepage (where a family member puts updates everyday) and they said today he seemed to be VERY responsive! He opened up his eyes and tried to look at people when they walked in. He was squeezing hands harder..He even attempted to pucker up his lips to kiss people. He is not considered out of the woods yet, of course-He received a pint of blood today but his hemoglobin level is okay.
This is some of the best news that we have gotten so far and we are just hoping and praying the news coninues to get better...I will be going to the hospital tomorrow or tuesday and will let you guys know how that goes, but wnated to share some "better" news for a change!

That is great news! I hope the reports continue to be better than expected and he is out of the woods soon. :wizard: :grouphug:

I didn't have the fresh spices, so I would season it while I was heating it up.

I've got to sign off, too. I got on the computer 4 hours ago to do some work, and funny how I still haven't done it. This is why I've had to stay away from the DDA this summer! :rotfl: I have to work tomorrow - I actually have new interns starting - yuck. :sad2:

Goodnight, DDA! Thanks for the kind "welcome backs!" I've missed you all!

That's pretty late for them to start, eh? I sympathize totally with working today. I figured that since I could count the number of people in my train car during rush hour on my fingers was a sign that I shouldn't have to be going to work, but unfortunately my company didn't agree. I hope the new interns don't make the rest of the summer as bad as the first. We miss you around here! Congrats on your new tickers!!

So here a photos of the "Cars" room that I have been working on.

This is the race car bed with toddler Cars bedding set. The wall has stick on "Cars" and a crafty picture.
...
He also has a Mater blow up chair that already has a leak (I think I blew it up too much on the air compressor) and a Lightning McQueen Lounge chair. I have all the little McDonald cars on his racetrack rug. I think it is pretty cute. I still need to make him a new blanket, but otherwise I think I'm done. I do need to make a couple more trips to McDonalds as we don't have Luigi or Doc Hudson yet. Maybe we missed them, I'm not sure?

Deb

I  it, Deb!!! It looks so cute. I'll bet that Colby loves it!

Clare Congrats on your post. Maybe someday I'll get that high. :cheer2: They are $50 for the pair. If shipping is a problem maybe I can ship them to you in FLA when your there or something. :confused3
Tammi, they are a plushy but also they ahve a ton of outfits for them so you can play dress up. :goodvibes We like to get outfits for each holiday to dress them in and when Blake graduated Kindergarten his bear was there in his cap and gown with him. :) SO it's a lot of fun for kids.
Jen That's great news I hope he continues to get better. :wizard:
Deb, That sounds like a pretty busy but fun camping trip. Most of the ones we had as a kid were not like that, I might have liked camping if they had been. :thumbsup2
:wizard: to all those who had to work today may you get off early and enjoy your families.
Amy I hope your week goes smoothly until your induction. :wizard: Hope Alyssa's ears feel better.

Well MTM was still talking about Saturday so here are three more pictures.
He wanted to sit in a real buggy but I told him that that might not be possible so we used the one that was at the campground.

He asked where were the Amish and I told him that one does not take their picture because they believe their soul would be taken. He was cool with that. Here is the rear shot of a carriage.

this is the covered bridge sign.

One other thing MTM learned from the weatherman from all the raining and flooding. "Don't drown, turn around"

See Ya

Deb,
If no one else has found one for you, I found Doc today. He's not in a bag because he was the display but he's in good condition.

Sorry Denise, no Maters.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. We just got home from seeing Cars again and I'm tired so I'm spending the rest of the evening in bed catching up on the thread from the last few days.

ETA: Oh my! I have 45 pages to respond to

Quick update, since hanging out the computer is the last thing I should be doing right now. :)

Kevin got a guilty verdict in his trial  but he still has plenty to do with the penalty phase this week, so he's still encouraging Matthew to stay put. ;)

We closed on our old house this past Friday night! :cheer2:

Alyssa still hates swimming lessons, and since she got an ear infection, we ended up skipping quite a few classes last week. Her last session is Wednesday.

Julie and Dave are the best movers and packers (except when it comes to children's shoes). :teeth:

Slowly, but surely, we are unpacking. I underestimated the cleanliness of the new house, so I'm spending a lot of time cleaning out cabinets and drawers and walls and floors, but it's all coming together.

Most of our baby stuff is still in our rented storage unit. I am encouraging Kevin, hourly, that we have to get this stuff out ASAP! :thumbsup2

I am still 2-3 cm. dialated, so unless he changes his mind, Matthew will join us on Friday. My induction is scheduled to start at 7 a.m.

My sister is visiting us through the holiday and my mom is coming down Thursday night to stay through the end of next week.

I'm really, really sorry I can't get caught up on the thread right now. If there's something I absolutely should know about, please send me a PM!

You are all in my thoughts and prayers!
Amy :)

Amy glad to hear everything is coming together.
Take it easy & take care.

Hello DDA! i got out of work at 12 today instead of 4, which was nice!!

Now, my exciting news for the day!! Since i got out of work early, i met up with my dad and brother to do some errands..We went to the firehouse, where i was told alex was awake!!! After that, we went to the hospital. They said he was sleeping and my brother and dad went in...After that was my turn. I went in with my dad, and we were in for less than 5 minutes. While we were there, he twitched his leg. I saw his eyes open a tiny bit, and then he opened them all the way and left them open! He looked right at me and you could see his lips moving, as if he were trying to talk or kiss me hello. He lifted up his hand off the bed and my dad held his hand and Alex was squeezing. When my dad let his hand go, he reached for my hand. I held on and squeezed and smiled at him. He squeezed back pretty hard!!
So he is not out of the woods yet at all, but this is a great improvment!!! I was thrilled seeing him respond to me like that--Please keep the prayers coming--THEY ARE WORKING!! thanks!

:grouphug: :grouphug: That is great news. I know that the prayers here are amazing. I really could see the power after my Dad's little train accident. We will continue to pray for you.

Deb
