It looks like I might get to meet a DDAer soon!! Chris's boss is taking the employees to a Red Sox game on May 27th. I suggested we drive to Boston in the morning and see some of the sights. Tia and Terra may be able to join us and show us around a bit. I can't wait. The game is a 7:05 PM game so we'll get a hotel for Saturday night and the boys and I will get a mini vacation out of his trip to Fenway. Did I say I can't wait. So is anyone else going to be in Boston on May 27th?

Deb

How fun for you!!!! I'm so jealous! It's times like this that I realize how far Utah is from most of you!

Oh Denise I feel that pain.. My "baby" will be starting kindergarten in the fall. Her orientation is May 25th. She gets to ride the bus around the school, visit her class, the gym, & the lunchroom. Its so hard to see her grow & need me less. I am happy for her & sad that her baby & preschool years are over...I will miss it.

Tonight was just for parents. They went over rules, we got to meet the Principal and K teachers, tour the rooms, ask questions, etc. The kids go for Orientation Aug 3 and the first day of K is Aug 7. You, me, and Dawn all have kids starting Kindergarten this fall. We'll have to commiserate together.

Okay, I think in my tired daze I missed some pages. From time to time I was seeing quotes that didn't sound familiar, but don't know where I missed them. So to all I didn't respond to  :wizard: and :grouphug:

Paula - I don't suppose you wanted to just head South and crash my birthday party with Mickey on Monday do you? I hate to have to typing in grren again, but....

I decent fare popped up last night so we are headed to CA on Saturday, coming back on the red eye Tuesday night. Downside - I "get" to spend Mother;'s Day with my in-laws who will probably only remember that my birthday is the next day if DH reminds them before we go. Upside - I get to spend my birthday with my best friend and Mickey! We will hit DL for awhile on at least Mon and maybe Tues. Plus if we get done with the inlaws early enough Sun, I may sneak in Fantasmic and Remember. Upside 2 - my sister is in CA until Sun so I may get to see her too. Upside 3 (this is for you Kristin) - if the inlaw visit is out of the way, it may increase the chances of a quick Dec trip.

And now that I am FINALLY caught up, I am off to bed so that I can fall behind again. What's the big idea with working being so busy that I can hardly find time to DIS anyway? :confused3

How cool is that!?! A quick trip to DL would suit my needs quite well. However, I know DH would never let me go as he's taking me in just 3 and a half weeks. I'll be thinking about you, though, and wishing you a happy birthday!

I loved Angels and Demons even more than the DaVinci Code! It was much more action oriented! I loved it!

ABSOLUTELY! I read A&D first and found DaVinci to be completely dull in comparison!

ETA: I've read it several times since, and even did my own "Angels and Demons" tour in Rome .... and STILL can't put it down when I read it. I highly recommend it, as well as Brown's other novels Digital Fortress and Deception Point Not QUITE as good, but fantastic overall!

I should have known something up when two pages posted that quick!! WOO HOO 31000!!!

Deb - you better hope Tia stays in Boston that weekend :teeth: she seems to take off on moments notice a lot!!!

Tia - I hope you have a great time!!!

Denise - I dread when Julia starts Kindergarten - you have a triple bam with yours!! I am glad that Rees did well today!!

My baby starts preschool in the fall. I'm not really sad, actually looking forward to having a few hours to myself 3 days a week. I never planned on being a stay at home Mom, always thought I'd have a great career, until I had Nick and I just couldn't stand the thought of a stranger taking care of him. I worked part time nights and my Mom and Chris took care of him, then the same with Hunter until my job was eliminated. I tried working 3 PM - 11 PM, but my Grandmother was living with us and needed more care than I could give and work full time. I ended up starting my own house cleaning business (you can make great money doing that). I was also taking care of my Niece during the day while working full time nights or doing the house cleaning. When I got pregnant with Colby I stopped the house cleaning as I was so sick and the chemicals didn't help. That is how I ended up just taking care of my son and my Niece and Nephew. Working at the restaurant was a means to keep my sanity. As soon as Colby is in School full time I will be able to work full time again. I am really looking forward to the work world. Being a stay at home Mom is the hardest job that I've ever had. I pat all of you that are full time stay at home mom's on the back. I need adult interaction and that sense of accomplishment that comes with a job. Hopefully my next job will be an actual career. Sorry for the ramblings, I really got off track :confused3 What track was I on anyway?

Isn't that fun! I did the same thing with Angels and Demons. I had visited most of those places years ago, so it was fun to picture them those places in my mind.

It's my favorite of his books, with Deception Point second and DaVinci Code third. I haven't read Digital Fortress, yet, but it's on my summer reading list. Along with numerous other books.

Well it's official!! :guilty: No WDW for us this summer. :guilty: We spent the last month trying to figure out some way to go even for a quick trip but no go...I just cancelled our reservation and will go home and cancel our meal ressie's

Come heck or high water we will make it next year!!

Sorry to hear that you won't be going :guilty:

Was it you that asked the other night about Mexican restaurants for your mom?

If it was, has she tried El Salto's (Brooklyn Park). Everyone I know loves it there. And it wouldn't be too far from your moms.

Ok...... so my humble opinions on the 2005 P&P......?

Hmm.... I'll try to be brief, but you can PM me if you'd like to discuss more, because I have a lot to say!

I did SUCH a good job of not comparing the actors (namely Matthew McFadyen to Colin Firth and Keira Knightley to Jennifer Ehle)..... just ask Kyle.

But the whole thing! In comparison to the novel! I think Jane Austen would be rolling in her grave, and I never use that cliche!

Elizabeth was a total wimp. Not at all a heroine. Darcy was actually quite good, although not as "tasty" (to quote Clare) as the REAL Mr. Darcy ;) Definitely the most true to character, though, by far. SO much of the rest of the movie was characters doing things they NEVER would have done in the novel. Mr. Wickham was practically skipped over, except Mr. Darcy's story about him and Georgiana. Not much thought given to his relationship with Lydia or Elizabeth's caring about him.

Practically NO time was given to the class distinction.... the title should have just been "Pride", and not really even much of that! :rotfl:

To top it off, ladies were wearing pants, Mr. Bingley was hanging out in Jane's bedroom....

It was a cute story, in and of itself, but oh my gosh --- it was NOT Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice .

(Like I said, I have more if you REALLY watt to know how I feel :rotfl:

Going to bed now. Tasty Dole Whips made tonight a MUCH better one... hope you all are doing well also!

Congrats on the milestone, Marti!!! That's a big deal around here.

Don't worry, Becky, I'm sure that sooner or later there will be a milestone for you! It seems like we all get one at some point.

Denise - I'm glad that things went pretty well at the dentist. I understand completely about the kindergarten thing. It's a big step, and the first one away from the parents. It's tough to watch, but it's also really cool! Enjoy this summer and make so many memories that they will remember them forever!

Deb - I LOVE madlibs! We used to do those on long orchestra or drama bus trips in high school. That was always so much fun!

You have good taste! I would rank them the same way, except maybe Digital Fortress before or after Deception Point and DaVinci Code last. When we went to Rome, I made everyone I could read A&D before we left! They thought I was nuts, but I think that ultimately they thanked me ;)

:woohoo:I am sssooo excited! DH will be graduating from the SNCOA (Senior Non Commissioned Officer Academy) 24 May and I am going to the graduation!

After 16 years in myself I finally bought a Mess Dress (formal uniform) and I can’t wait to wear it. Well I hope I get to wear it, I can seem to locate the formal shirt in my size:sad:, the clothing sales at my base has it on back order and so does the online shop. I have been in the thrift shop also, but no luck. I hope I find one so I can wear the Mess Dress because (did I say it already) I am sssooooo excited! :yay:

Do a little dance!!!! :dancer:

Did I tell you all this uniform cost me over $300.00, :scared1: OMG my pocket book is in great pain!) but with the chunky monkey off my belly I can use this uniform time and time again at formal functions! :cheer2:

Do a little dance!!!! :dancer:

For your enjoyment I will take pictures of DH and myself looking our most FABULOUS Air Force selves in our Mess Dress uniforms.::yes:: (grad night is not until the 24th so don’t be asking me for pics before that, I could post pics, but they wouldn’t be of me and DH)

Do a little dance!!!!:dancer:

Ohhh I can't wait until I see pictures. I love the dress uniforms. I attended a Navy Day ball about 10 years ago and just loved how everyone looked. I hope you find your shirt. I'd ask my SIL but she isn't the type to do anything nice for anyone. She won't even buy her brother stuff in the PX when she visits us. Something about why should he benefit as a result of her.

Thank you, I am looking and asking, but so far nothing. You are more than welcome to ask your friends I would need a 12R or 14R female formal shirt. I would pay for everything and them some.

Are all uniform dress shirts the same? Or is the Air Force one different from the Army or the Navy or the Marines? I would be willing to ask around here, as many of my parents are naval officers or Marines. Let me know (unless I am once again a day late and a dollar short and this has already been taken care of).

This is one of my favorite summer party recipes. It's not particularly good for you, but it sure is tasty!

1 (16 oz.) pkg. cole slaw mix (in produce section)
5 green onions, chopped
1 pkg. chicken Ramen noodles broken into sm. pieces
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. oil
1/3 c. apple cider vinegar
1 pkg. chicken Ramen seasoning mix
1/2 c. - 1 c. Sunflower seeds
1/2 c. - 1 c. Slivered almonds

Mix cole slaw mix, green onions and broken Ramen noodles; set aside. Mix together sugar, oil, apple cider vinegar and chicken Ramen seasoning. Add to cole slaw mix 2 hours before serving. Top with sunflower seeds and slivered almonds.

Beth

You are a mind reader. My mom asked me for this recipe today and I couldn't

Does it count if my DH and Emma will be in Boston that weekend. They are driving up to visit his sister and family. I may just have to see if we could swing airfare for me up there. They leave on Thursday and I can't get away until late Friday or early Saturday. I would love to come up to meet you all. Visit the SIL not so much :teeth:

OMG!!!!

DH used to be the director of community affairs for a local homebuilder - he left his job about a year ago - at the time we knew it was the best decision ever - today that was confirmed

the homebuilder had 76 employees arrested at jobsites today in an illegal immigrant raid - a culmination of a 2 year investigation - supposedly they went to the headquarters and sent all non-management employees home - interviewing the management team and looking through files

DH had nothing to do with hiring and did not know anything about this - but he would have been stuck at work today and since he was the point person with government officials and press - he would have been in the middle of it!!

Kate - my DH is interested in what company this is. Since he is in the homebuilding business and he worked in Ohio for a number of years and they are also looking at a similar problem in his company now, he is curious.
