pixiedust: pixiedust: :grouphug: :grouphug: and prayers to all of us who are hurting right now. Tink2020 - you'll end up where you are meant to be and everything will work out fine. Life has a way of giving us all times of great stress, and then times of great joy. Without the stress, we wouldn't appreciate the joy!! Okay, off the soapbox now.

My tail of woe is that since I was out ill for two weeks, the firm that I work for will not give me time off (not even a day and a half) to go to Virginia to visit my son next month. I haven't seen him since October, and I'm really itching to go. I put in a counter request for Good Friday as a floating holiday and the Monday after Easter for the drive back. I'll take any spare pixie dust after the people with real problems get theirs (and I guess I should follow my own advice :) ).

Have a great evening anyone.

Well, it's nice to know we were thought of. I don't suppose there's any chance of y'all making a trip to Utah one of these days? Tammi said she might accompany her husband on another ski trip. Deep sigh. It's so sad to be so far away from the group. I know there are a bunch of Oregonians around, perhaps we should all split the difference and meet in Idaho.
How close are you to Salt Lake, we drive through there twice in the summertime to visit relatives in IA. DH can never find a good enough deal on airfare for 6. :rotfl:

That's a good idea! Julia or Lynn, you have any old junk to donate to a good cause??:teeth:

If I tell my hubby you will have 1/2 my house over by you, he says I shop too much and we have way too much stuff, the house is bulging and he is hoping to build a smaller one next time around.

:grouphug: to you! It's no less of 'real problem'! I remember being away from my family in school, and those times we got to see one another are priceless! Here's hoping that something will work out with your work schedule and you'll be able to see him! :goodvibes

Good to know. DS and I are having a mother/son date on Saturday afternoon. Perhaps we'll end up there for lunch. He loves chicken, and I love anything I can keep down. It's been a rough week for me. I've gotten to know the inside of my toilet quite well. DH laughed and said I was never that sick when pregnant. He's so funny, NOT!

:wizard: I hope you feel better soon.

You should have heard Matt in the car today!!! Whine, whine and more whine! Mom, how come we don't have a tv in the car? There's nothing to do, I'm bored. Meanwhile he had plenty of electronic gadgets to play with, coloring books, reading books etc. to keep him busy. Know what I had to keep me busy on long car rides? Two brothers to beat me up!
:lmao: too funny.

Ok, slight confession, I started out on the Toad in the hole, and then got distracted by one of the kids, and DH finished making it. He did most of the work, so I didn't even get to watch. I think I got as far as gathering all the ingredients. I'm definitely going to be the one making all the Yorkshire pudding myself. I love to cook, but so does DH, so it makes for some fighting in the kitchen. If I turn my back for a second, he takes over. It's so frustrating.

Wish my hubby would love to cook, I just imformed him at dinner that next week is his week in the kitchen, it's really sad as I used to love to cook, even became a qualified chef but just don't have the time anymore.

I always had my birthday party near to my January birth day, since that is the legal date. Most everybody said happy birthday then. On our special birthday my parents always woke me up singing: This is the day you came to us, came to us, came to us; This is the day you came to us to be our little girl. We got to pick out a special dinner (even if my brothers thought it was yucky) and then a special cake. It was a special time for our family and I have some very fond memories of it growing up.

The latest trend in adoption birthdays is to have a "gotcha" day. I don't like this term, and I really don't know why. My guess is that I think it refers to a material thing, not a person. But that's just one persons opinion.

Good luck if you adopt - international or domestic???

I think it probably came from going to international countries to get your child so 'gotcha' came about, I think it's kinda cute and special.

Where is your son in Virginia? Maybe Tammi and I could drop in on him as PseudoMoms!

Much thought going out to you and Denise and Kristin and Theresa and Glynis right now. I think we all deserve a break too.

Jennifer -- I can understand your panicky times. It is so hard to wait to see what he future will hold. I promise it will never be like you thought it would, no matter where you end up! It is a miraculous adventure!

Jennifer - looks like you got some great advice. I'll just say "ditto"! :thumbsup2

Theresa and Glynis - I hope you both hear GOOD news about your moms soon. Prayers and PD that all is well. Let us know once you hear something. :grouphug:

LegalSlave - I sure hope you get some time off! pixiedust:

I agree wholeheartedly - the DDA deserves a big break!!!

I need some advice from anyone who has young elem. age kids. A note was sent home from Nicholas' teacher saying that he is getting his lower case "b" and "d" mixed up. She asked me to work with him at home. So, does anyone have any suggestions or hints on how to help him remember which is which?

I remember doing that as a young child, my son now does it, ask the teacher for the way they teach the kids the difference so that you use the same way he is learning at school, you can also talk to the EIP teacher at the school.

Unfortunately, we are not going to be on Cash in the Attic. I am going to have to take a break from the computer, and I won't be around for a while. Rees is fine, but some other things have completely fallen apart in the last 12 hours. I'd appreciate your prayers. I'll try to be back soon. Hugs to you all until then.

Denise

So sorry to hear this, I was getting so excited but wish you lots of
pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

And some :grouphug: :grouphug: for the family

Denise -- Hugs and Prayers to you and your family.

Glynis and Theresa -- hugs and prayers to you and your mothers.

Jennifer -- I do understand your panic attack . You've had some great advice on here. There are too many what ifs to try to second guess everything. HANG IN THERE! You can do it.

Legalslave -- here's hoping you get your time off and have a great visit with your son.

When it rains it pours!! And I want it to stop.

I just got off the phone with my mom and she has to go in for a PET scan this Friday morning. This is less than a week after a ultra sound...what she thought was her gall bladder acting up. My mom has battled cancer before and I am scared!! What I hate the most is she is in Maryland and I am here in CO.

Please say extra prayers on Friday morning for her and for me tonight as I get to tell my girls.

Lots of pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: for you all

I am about a 20 minute drive from Salt Lake City. You should let me know when you come through! It would be fun to meet for lunch, or something! I understand about not finding good deals for a family of 6.

Well, the DDA pixie dust works again!!! I just got off the phone with my dad, and mom is in the clear. She'll have to be tested every 3 months for a couple of years, but right now, it looks like she beat the cancer battle.

She was scheduled for heart surgery last February, and on the night before the surgery, she started to bleed from her uterus. They did some tests and found uterine cancer. Her heart was the main concern at that point, so they decided to put off the hysterectomy until she had healed up from the heart surgery. She underwent a 7 bypass and the insertion of a new valve to her heart. When she had healed sufficiently, they did the hysterectomy. During that surgery, they found the tumor had encroached her muscle wall about 60%. She had 5 radiation treatments, and the tumor shrank considerably. Today was her 6 month follow up and the tumor has not grown at all. Not even a tiny bit! I'm so relieved! I just wasn't ready to lose my mom, and after all she's been through in the last year, that was a real possibility. Watching her battle diabetes, 2 knee replacements, a hip replacement, heart problems, etc., was what made my mind up about having the gastric bypass.

It looks like I'll get to have my mom around for a while, yet. Hooray! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Cherish your parents while you have them. Life is so fleeting!

Anyway, pixie dust to Theresa still waiting on news from her mom! Thanks again, everyone!
