Speaking of candy, if you like paydays mix a bag of candy corn & salted peanuts together. This is so good, very hard to stop eating once you start

Paydays are my favorite!!!! Especially because my DH doesn't like nuts so he won't eat them. That's my secret...get cookies and other sweets that have nuts so "they" won't eat them. You'd be surprised how much longer a bag of cookies will last in my house!

The best trail mix is m&m's, salted dry roasted peanuts, raisins and gold fish. Yummy. Trust me. It's good. And, the m&m's don't melt so you can take it to the pool in the summer.

Thanks! I have no doubt that they will NOT get their act together. I had to hound and hound the elementary, and this won't be any different. Good thing I don't have a problem with hounding.

I made the salsa today, man I have never done so much chopping The salsa looks good & smells good. As soon as it cools I will taste it. It was real easy to make(other than the chopping), if anyone is interested in the recipe let me know.

Me please! Bob goes through SO MUCH of this stuff I should start making it from scratch in large batches. Of course, I use it in Chili, on Chicken, tacos...you name it!
I'm wondering if you could use a food processor? I use my slicer on my processor when I make home made gratin. (I think that's the word I'm looking for..gratin, right? Made with sliced potatoes, milk, cheese...etc...)

That's not good! Lock your doors & set your alarm! DS is paranoid and is constantly setting our alarm, even when I want it off!

I called the school about DS's 504. The counselor said none of his modifications were listed in the system! She looked around a bit more and found them listed in March '06. Apparently the elementary had us due for another meeting in March '07 but we never had one, so that was all that was showing. The diagnostician told me the modifications are valid for 3 years, not 1! Anyway, the counselor said she will print off his modifications and put them in the teachers' boxes to alert them. She said she thinks it is best to wait until after the first 6 weeks to have a new 504 because by then the teachers know the kids a little better. I didn't tell her we are fiddling with his meds. If the change in meds helps then great, but the teachers can't ignore the modifications and put the burden on DS/us to figure out how to get all the homework done.

I am sorry that the teachers weren't notified about DS' modifications...that is very frustrating. I don't have the struggles you do but I am not going to be happy this year that there won't be a meeting for Abi's plan....dang I forgot the new acronym for it!! I've gotten used to the yearly meetings but the kid is getting older. She is also having a ton of homework a night...but we knew she would at least in math....she asks me questions on it and I say "I never got math....espescially the way the district does it now!!" I hope things settle down and get in a groove soon for you and DS

I'm sure a processor would work fine, but I don't have one lol Here is the recipe, as soon as I taste it I will let you know how it turned out.

Salsa

4 lbs tomatoes(core & blanch)
2 lbs chopped onion
3 lbs bell peppers
1/4 cup cooking oil
2 tbs taco seasoning
2 tbs chili powder
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbs garlic powder
3 tbs seasoning salt
1/2 cup vinegar

Skin tomatoes, chop into 1/2 inch cubes. Saute onion in oil till almost tender. Combine tomatoes, onions, peppers, sugar, & seasonings in large pot. Bring to boil over medium heat, stir frequently. Cook until tomatoes form a red liquid, do not over cook(tomatoes need to stay in chunks). Take off heat, add vinegar.Freeze in containers.Makes 7 pints.

If you want it to be spicier you can add some jalapeno's. I only chopped up one & added it to the mix.

I finished the dirt dessert. Sincei it has pudding it needs refrigeration and my camper fridge is full. I put them in the freezer and I'll take them out a few hours before we will eat them. I hope they will be ok. Now I'm cooking the orzo noodles for the "maggotroni and cheese" the kids came up with the name. Hopefully the cooking is done. I also started picking up Colby's room, but I think Chris will have to help with the cleaning end tonight since I'm leaving for work in half an hour. Long day, but hopefully this weekend will come together nicely. I hope that it doesn't rain too much though it is not looking good.

DH used to have a thing called a Smart Chopper that he made salsa in. It was a round clear base and a white lid with a blade built in. You would put whatever in the base and then turn the handle to rotate the blade and chop the food. It was manual - not electric. He used the first one so much that it broke, then he got another one. Don't know what happened to that one.

Our school district is worthless. That's why there is a private school on every corner! I HOPE that once the teachers get the copy of his modifications they will realize at the very least that they better not cross me. I know what his modifications are, and I know that the teachers don't get to ignore them. If they choose not to cooperate then I will demand compliance and I won't be polite about it.

Theresa - It's confusing, isn't it? DS has a 504, which is not Special Ed, which is why his review is only valid for one year and not 3. (According to the lady today.) My friend's son has ADHD and dysgraphia and her meetings are ARDs, at which they come up with an IEP. I do think that is classified as Special Ed. Who knows? The counselor at our elementary was completely clueless so there is no telling what kind of wrong info we have been given. I will HOPE the middle school counselor is better!

Our counselor is also my friend....BUT she isn't the one who handles the G/T kids or IEPs(or whatever they are called this year ) The G/T program is on it's 3rd "coordinator" in 6 months and the new one isn't even from in district so she is more clueless than the other 2. I am giving them until parent teacher conferences and if I don't have the form by then I will be raising a stink because I know Deb filled out the majority of it last year for the Centennial kids!! These are state mandated forms that need to be filled out and signed by the teachers involved, the coordinator, the kids and the parents each year at the beginning of the year. I was on the district accountability committee I know the stink I can raise and will raise if I don't see something soon.

The PTA meeting last night was interesting. I kept my mouth shut, but another mother did ask. The principal basically said the same things that she said to me, and I don't think it made a very good impression. This morning she was talking to some teachers (one of my good friends among them), and said that she thought the meeting went very well last night. My friend told her that she had some very upset parents still, and the principal was a bit surprised. My friend gave her my number, and the principal called me to ask to meet with me again tomorrow about this matter. She was much friendlier than at our last meeting. Maybe she can learn.

Steffy and Terry, the principal is probably a few years older than I am...maybe early 50's. She didn't introduce herself or give any of her background, so I'm not entirely sure. I do know that most recently she was an assistant principal at another elementary school in the district. Again, that would have really help the first impression of many at the meeting last night. I guess she has a few things to learn, but if she can start being open to that, she may do well. I am keeping an open mind.

I had another great day with the 3's! This is such a verbal group of three year olds, and they are already getting along so well with one another. There are a few minor things going on with the director, but I don't even want to think about that right now. I really do think that 3 is my favorite age to teach. There is such a wonder and magic about them and their first school experience.

I'm sorry that I have had to skip a bunch again. Tomorrow won't be any better, because I am helping with Dunk the Teachers day at Miles' school right after work. They have to read a certain number of pages to earn balls to throw at the Dunk Tank. The gym and art teachers sit in the tank, and it's always fun.

Hey all! We don't leave until Saturday, but I don't know how much I'll be on. Thanks for the well-wishes! Please keep your fingers crossed that our weather doesn't suck as bad as they are predicting. Right now it is just thunderstorms, everyday. Not scattered, not isolated just tons of thunderstorms. I wouldn't care as much if it were just Kyle and I, but we are paying a lot of money for my mom and sister to go, and they just don't get to go enough as it is!

I hope the weather predictions are wrong!
