Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts...We have been up since 5 and just now got home from the hospital. My grandma was in the OR for 3.5 hours for what was supposed to be a 2 hour surgery. They ended up going through her neck tothe coratid artery-They thought it was 80% blocked but ended up being more, which made the surgery a bit more complicated. She is out of the OR though and is recovering in the surgical ICU. She is in more pain than was expected and may be taying over for a couple of nights,,,I didnt go into see her, but my mom, uncle, and grandpa did--they said she looks worse than expected, but is doing okay. ill be going back to the hospital tonight, so if there is asny new updates, ill let you know.
thank you so much!

glad to hear the surgery is done and odid not take the 10 hs you said it might take.

And that is just what we did! I really like most of the people for this year. There were 2 girls that I wasn't particularly impressed with, but all of the guys we great. (We were maybe going to record ER, but for some reason it was the same episode as last week. :confused3 )

We had a new ER last night. :confused3

I'm glad that the surgery went well, and I'll keep her in my prayers for a quick recovery.

Hi all! Hope the day is treating you well. We are supposed to get a nasty ice storm tonight so that should be interesting, but luckily we have no real plans. My Dad got called for a run to Wisconsin, but luckily he will be back before the storm this time as opposed to leaving it in like last time.

Terra and I had a nice morning today. We met a local play group at the World Bird Sanctuary near by. She got to see a lot of really cool bird of prey - owls, eagles, hawks, falcons - plus some parrots, macaws, lizards, snakes and a few other things. She  it! The only thing that she didn't like was me when I said that we couldn't stick around to watch a falcon eat the mouse it had for lunch as I didn't know when she would decide to actually eat it.

After that, we went to the nearby nature reserve. You drive through the park and we saw several types of deer, bison and elk. There were two big groups of a bigger type of deer and of bison hanging out right by the road so we got to see them really close up. There were also several elk eating along the roadway. It was pretty neat to see them just a few feet from the car.

It was another reminder of one of my favorite things about St. Louis...so many things are free!! We put $1 in each places' donation box, but other than that it didn't cost us anything for a morning of fun and education. Gotta love that! Paying for so many things and so much for them was one of the things I had to get used to in CA and MA. Near our apartment in CA there was a small little zoo with maybe a dozen exhibits and it was $5 each to get in. The Science Museums were $15 in each place and here it is free. Okay, sorry for that tangent. Don't know where it came from.

glad to hear you had a great morning

Well, I've got to go pick up Phil and make a stop in to Mom's work in order to ask if Rachel can spend the night at a friend's tonight. I'll probably be back on, but not sure when. I'm going with Erin to a ladies' Friendship Friday event at church tonight. I guess we get together with a smaller group (9 or so) at someone's house for dinner and then all get together at the church for a larger fellowship after that.

Have a good afternoon everyone!

have a great time tonight

Tia - You are lucky to have so many free activities! Our zoo is $5 to park and I think $7 for admission - the kids are less, maybe $5, then ALL the nickel & dime stuff. Our Science museum is about $7, and if you go to the IMAX it is another $5 or so per person. The big Art museum is $10 admission, and the big aquarium is REALLY bad - like $17 for adult admission, plus parking, and it only takes about 2 hours to see everything!

We had a crummy "children's museum" that was in the mall, but it moved downtown into the Science museum. We haven't been there since they moved it - I hope it is better now! And the Science museum just merged with the Natural History museum so you can do both with a single membership. (Which we don't have, because we didn't use it that much when we had it!) We have an Asian art museum, a sculpture garden, an African American museum, and a Women's museum but we never go to those. I am sure they aren't free, though! The big botanical gardens are about $3 to park and $6 per person to get in. We go there maybe twice a year.

The park is free, the library is free, the play areas inside the malls are free (but they are always so crowded I am afraid the kids will get hurt), most of the bookstores have free storytime once a week. In the summer there is one theater that shows older movies for kids for $1 per person. The kids really like to go there.

I need to wake Sister up and get her ready for Tae Kwon Do. That uniform was stiff as a board! It is a little softer since I washed it, but not much! I think Brother was having a bad dream. He was talking, but when I went to see what he was doing he was asleep. He has had a weird week as far as sleeping.

Was it the one where Kerry decides to go to Miami? If not, did you have that one last week?

We had the one where Kerri decided to go to Miami last week. We had a new one this week. It's weird that it wasn't on in your market. Do you think they will run that next week or put it on at a special time in between?

Very lucky, I know! Free-wise we have the zoo, Science Museum, Art Museum, History Museum and the Arch Museum, plus some smaller things like the animal park and bird santuary we did today and some other things that I can think of. Of course, you pay for some things once inside, but those are optional. Luckily, most of these places are really nice to begin with so you don't feel like you "need" the extras to enjoy it. The other thing that I am learning is that if you pay attention to calendars and watch for certain days, many of the other things are free or cheap at certain times. Our Children's Museum is free 1 Friday night a month (open about 4 hours for free). The Botanical Gardens is also free on certain mornings. I'm trying to compile a calendar of things like that so that we can take advantage of them without spending alot, especially since we are going to be homeschooling.

Oh I LOVE when they do those movies. I first discovered them when we lived in CA. There is was either free or $1 plus there was a discounted snack available. They do it hear, but not in as many theaters. It seemed like all of them in CA did it. It's a perfect summer morning activity. I really liked that the CA theaters usually had 2 show times, the early one was always rated G and the 2nd one was either G or PG and aimed at slightly older kids.

That is weird. We had the Kerri one both last week and this. We thought it was a mistake at first when looking at the "guide" on our cable, but them when we watched the first few minutes to check it was the same one. I'll have to see if there is a special showing somewhere this week. Strange.

I keep meaning to ask...Does anyone by chance have a recording of Law & Order CI and SVU from Tuesday night? If so, is there anyway I can borrow it. I didn't make it home in time to record them for my sister, plus I LOVE Vincent D'Onofrio and I can't believe that I missed is first show this season.

Ours was the next one....Kerry is saying goodbye...could there have been operator error at the station last night??

We have the SCFD (basically a huge free money thing for the arts) if something receives money from the SCFD they have to offer free resident
day(s) depending on the amount they received.

I need to figure out the next museum freebie day...hope it comes up soon!!

Alot of ours is a benefit from the 1904 World's Fair. Part of the Fair committee's granting of Forest Park (the original Fairgrounds) to the city was that it was to be kept free for public use. The zoo and the major museums are located there, thus they have to be free.

I LOVE  D'onofrio also...but I only got to watch half the show for some reason. Great as always!!

Has it ever been revealed what he is sick with??

I think the SVU is going to repeat on Saturday, maybe the CI too.
