Mel does not want to go to the funeral so I'm staying home after all. I do have a Girl Scout meeting tomorrow in Marquette. It is a brainstorming session on increasing Girl Scout membership. Membership has been decreasing steadily over the years.

I was never involved in girl scouts, I plan to enroll Olivia in them.

Bernadette - I have no clue about a frozen Coke machine. Sorry!:confused3 That was one of the BEST things for us about AKL. We LOVED having a coffee maker in our room. We brought filters and a bag of Starbucks coffee from home and had lovely coffee every morning.:coffee: The coffee at Pop is just revolting, but we never found a way around it.
I didn't know AKL had a frozen coke machine. I think there is a small glimmer of hope for POR.

I just let a friend of mine who stayed at ASMo borrow a 4 cup coffee maker that I have that has a stainless steel carafe instead of glass.

WOW!!!! I don't know if anyone had seen the Amber Alerts, but a 13yo boy in a nearby town disappeared after getting off of the bus on Monday. Today they found him alive at a home in another area town (maybe 30 minutes apart from each other). The most amazing part is that they found a 2nd boy who disappeared from the same area as the 13yo did FOUR AND A HALF YEARS AGO. Both are alive and the in video of them being taken into the police station they both look very happy. I was doubtful that they would find Ben and I think many had given up home that Shawn would ever be found. What a blessing for the families!

I saw that. How wonderful that they found them both. Hope they throw away the keys for the guy who I heard had previously been convicted.

Jen phoned at 3:15 CST to tell me they were taking her Grandma back to the OR. She was waiting for her dad to pick her up and they were going straight to the hospital. She didn't have any details - just that Grandma was going back for more surgery.:guilty: Please keep them in your thoughts & prayers tonight, and if I hear from Jen again I will let you all know what's going on.

Oh Jen. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: More prayers for Grandma.

Yuck! What an afternoon!

No telling what's for dinner.
:grouphug: How about cereal?

Vicki if Mel really doesn't want to go, I wouldn't make him.
Hope SIL doesn't get mad.

wow,

I have no idea what all is free in austin. I know the LBJ libary is. Even the park in the spring costs to park.

We just don't have anything to do around here. No zoos, aquariums, nature preserves. We have a small museum, but it really doesn't offer much, once a year is enough. Luckily we have plenty of nature all around us and it is free. Really it is pretty boring around here.

First, Elizabeth, thank you for posting! it was nice to finally talk to you on the phone, but i wish it was under different circumstances!!! and thank you to everyone for the prayers and good thoughts..my family really needs them tonight

Jen how is your grandma?

After i posted that she was out of the OR, my mom and i were at home and around 4 or so, i got a phone call from my grandfather that my grandma was taken back into the OR--He didnt know what was going on, so my mom went straight to the hospital, and i waited for my dad to get home from work (about 20 min later) to go with me. This is when i called Elizabeth, because i knew my grandma could use all the prayers she could get.

This is what happened...My grandfather was talking to her and she said she had trouble breathing and then started to wheeze..By the time my grandfather got a nurse, grandma was unconscious...They needed to intubate her and took her straight to the OR..Apparently,a blood clot and alot of swelling caused everything to go crazy and she suffered alot of the complications. When she came out of the OR, the surgeon told us they were going to keep her sedated from teh time we left until at least tomorrow morning- Her throat has some damge to it due to the multiple difficult intubations. My mom went in to see her and she reached for my moms hand and opened her eyes when she heard my moms voice.
Right now, we are still looking at alot of potential complications..They are checking into the possiblilty of stroke, heart attack, or heart problems due to the complications.

That is all i know for now--my mom is calling the nurse at 10pm for an update, and we will be back at the hospital at 11--right now, its just very scary--i apprecaite ALL of the prayers and good thoughts

Hi, TGIF..the kids have Monday off so 3 days of no running around. :woohoo:

I didn't realize that's what everyone was talking about until there were multiple replies about it!

So, OK. No, I didn't make it through high school. Looking back on it my mother told me the mechanics of things just fine, but she never encouraged me not to engage in behaviors I might regret later. I think kids should know that there are really complicated emotions that go along with certain actions, and the emotions are really what you need to be mature for.

My parents didn't really talk about it except to make sure I knew that pre-marital S E X was not to be tolerated in their eyes and I knew the mechanics from mom making me read a book. They made me afraid of it basically. Not the way I wanted to handle it with my kids. I explained the reasons to them that they should wait - the emotional side of things. Then I spent a lot of time praying!

She did but that is her problem. At one point, my MIL told my FIL to hang up on SIL. She was getting obnoxious. That is normal for her though. Chuck called his dad directly to find out the reasons for not wanting to go. Chuck & BIL both understand the reasons so we let it drop.

Bernadette - Oh, my post wasn't very clear! I meant the coffee maker was the best thing at AKL! They don't have frozen Cokes there. But I have rarely seen the frozen Coke machine at Pop actually function. It is usually recharging, so no matter where they have one if it isn't working it isn't much good!

Jen - I hope your grandma is finished with complications!:wizard: It was very nice to talk to you, even though it wasn't under the best circumstances.:)

Tia - That is truly an amazing story. The other night when I was reading my tax guide from the IRS I was looking at the photos of those kids and thinking there really isn't much chance that they will be found after so many years. At least it does happen once in awhile!

Vicki - I was never a girl scout. We moved so much when I was growing up it seems like whenever I was interested there wasn't a troop in our area. Both of my younger sisters were in Brownies, but not Scouts.

DH made pasta and meatballs for dinner, so none of us will starve. He is in a pissy mood because Toad is coming back to work. She is going to ride along with him on Tuesday. I have said all along that she is NOT going to go away quietly, she is not going to resign, she is going to keep coming back so she can continue to draw disability payments. Even if she only works ONE day, if she goes back out it counts as a new occurance so the calendar resets for how long they have to keep her position open. Stupid, stupid.:sad2:

The funeral today was very sad. It is so tough to say goodbye to someone so young. They did a really good job making the funeral fit the person that he was. I was long too, about an hour. Colby did ok, but I ended up taking him to another room about 45 minutes into it. It was really nice seeing family that I haven't seen in years. We really need to have a family reunion once a decade or so.

Vicki, I understand your point of view your FIL attending the funeral. One of Randy's brother's chose not to come and the entire family was very angry with him. His parent's felt hurt and his brother and sister just couldn't believe that he wouldn't drive 6 hours to be there. He said that he was just there at Christmas :confused3 We were very happy that both of his kids showed up though. I was also surprised to see that most of the family x's were there too.

My mother just told me I better not get pregnant because my father didn't believe in abortion so I would be stuck.:scared: So I didn't get pregnant. I was Queen of the Drunken One Night Stands, but I didn't get pregnant! I didn't start with DH, but I did stop once I got to him.;)
