Has anyone else had trouble connecting this week? I'm trying to catch up at work - it doesn't help that I don't get e-mail alerts for this thread, so suggestions how to restore the alert most welcome!

PD for all who need it - Kate, you make me thankful for the NHS!

Denise, I certainly hope things are a little better today. You know you, John, and the kids are always in our thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

Here's some more PD for anyone else still fighting yucky bugs or stressful family issues. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Thank you for all the great birthday wishes! :sunny: Kevin got home around 9 p.m. and we ate cake (he gets an A+ for buying me a delicious cake) and watched Scrubs and American Idol. Tonight, he's bringing home dinner from one of my favorite restaurants. :lovestruc

Regarding the toddler sleeping issue, I have to agree with letting the baby cry. It's heartbreaking, but necessary. For whatever reason, Alyssa has decided to put up a fight at bedtime over the past few days, and this is the method we're using. She never cries more than five minutes...it's just a control thing. Good luck!

I'm spending my first night ever away from Alyssa this weekend. I'm going to an overnight scrapbooking event with my sister-in-law from 3:00 p.m. Saturday through noon on Sunday. I'm excited to "get away," and I know Kevin will take excellent care of Alyssa, but I've never been away from my baby for so long!!!

Hey Kate, did you hear back from American Girl regarding Julia's audition?

Hope everyone has a great day!
Amy :)
That sounds fun, Amy. I wish I could talk some friends into doing an overnight scrapbooking event. Enjoy your "adult" time away.

Brantley-Kate is feeling a little better today. Her temp was down this am, so I'm praying that part is over. Her face is still beet red and she's covered in the rash.

Haven't heard from my MIL yet about the surgery, so I'll keep you posted.

I called Rees' therapy clinic this am to see if they'd let PBS film him at therapy, and they were checking with the owners for approval. PD please that PBS pics us and that we get a chance to tell our story!

We drove our first and so far only trip to WDW. :teeth: We drove straight through from OR no stopping to sleep just switch off, bathroom breaks and Mc Donald's with our 3 boys 3,2, and 1 at the time. DH couldn't get away from work until a certain date and my sister's college wouldn't move their graduation date. It wasn't as bad as everyone thought it would be. Of course, next time I'll try and get a deal on airfare. :rolleyes1

Oh good heavens! You are my hero! pirate: There's no way I'd want to drive it! I've driven to DL more than enough times for my liking! LOL Of course, if that was the only way to get there, I'd do it in a heartbeat!

:tink: BK, feel better, sweetie! Can you do anything for her, like soaking in Aveeno or something?

Just keep being persistant, with Rees' situation. I'm sure you must be emotionally exhausted. If we can be of any help, just let us know....even if it is just to vent.

Just let them cry. As painful as it is for you, you gotta do it.

Unfortunately that is what we did too.
Kyle was 7.5 months old and wouldn't sleep without being swadled up like a newborn and with his binky. I would get up 3-4 times a night to re-wrap and re-binky ;)
We did the 3 nights to crying it out method and stopped swadling and using the binky all at the same time. (DH was was so mad at me for doing this!!) But we held our ground and it worked. By night 4 he was falling asleep without a noise and only waking up once or twice but going back to sleep without having to go in there. Within another week, he was going to sleep and staying asleep. He is 2.5 now and is my champion sleeper- in bed by 7:30 and sleeps to 8:30 (or later if it's cloudy!)

It will be rough the first few days but the end result is SOOOOOOOO worth it. Good luck! :wizard:

I'm glad BK is feeling better!! Keep us posted on GIL surgery and Rees' show! :grouphug:

Whew! Thanks to everyone who is chiming in with the airfare support (I still feel silly stressing over it with the events going on in the other DDA lives  )

I am trying my best to be patient, but since we are flying before Christmas I don't have the highest hopes that airfares will come down at the end. Not to say they are at their lowest point now, but I have a number in my head and when it gets there- BAM- I'm taking 'em!

Have a nice day everyone!!

PS: When are Paul and Marti coming back? I need a song to hum along to today :rolleyes1

Have a Gooooooooooooooooood Week DDA...

Monday January 23rd -- Friend like me

Tuesday January 24th -- Happy Birthday (for Marti and Amy)
followed by The Age Of Not Believing

Wednesday January 25th -- Give A little Whistle

See ya real soon... :mickeyjum

Edited, singing okay -- spelling not so good

and Clare Bobs Your Uncle

I miss them too. Here is our song of the day per Paul.

When you get in trouble
And you don't know right from wrong ...

FYI -- If anyone is in the market for t-shirts, I got an e-mail from cheapestees.com that they are having a pre-Spring sale with 20% off everything, including sale items. Coupon code is msr64, and sale ends 2/4/06.

I haven't looked at their prices recently, but I have ordered from them in the past. They don't typically have the lowest prices, but the shirts were a good quality, and I got them quickly. Their sale prices might be pretty competitive.

Give a little whistle!!

I knew somebody would find the song list for while Skunka and Marti were gone!!

Ellen --
Happy, Happy Birthday to you!

BE PATIENT!!!! I purchased one-way on Airtran from Atlanta to Miami last week. Now the same flight is actually $50 cheaper. Our trip in 3/31 so that goes to show the best rates are w/in 90 days of your flight.

$50 x 4 people = $200.....grrrrrgrrrr

If anyone has any advice on how to get a 1YO to sleep through the night or at least longer than 3 hours, I'd love some advice. :confused3 All of my other kids were sleeping by 1. I have been sick every other week for a month and a half and I'm pretty sure it's related to exhaustion.
Anyone with ideas would have my gratitude. :goodvibes

Was your baby sleeping thru the night prior to this? Or never before? I know it sounds harsh, but at some point, I just had to let my oldest DD cry it out on her own. I just couldn't deal with no sleep being pregnant with my second child. I rocked her until she was really sleepy, and then transferred her to the crib. She was startled, but I patted her back, told her I loved her and that I would be right outside her door. Then I left and closed her door (always did it, so it wasn't a shock to her). She cried and cried, but it was more her angry and tired cry than her scared or hungry cry. After 15 minutes I went in and patted her back again, but NO TALKING. I stayed in her room for about 3 minutes, then I went back out again. She cried for another half an hour and then she was asleep. After that, she was pretty good at self-comforting. I always made sure there was some familiar object in her crib; favorite blankie, toy, etc.

DS was easier. The first night, he only cried for 5 minutes before going out. The twins never had a problem, probably because they had each other for comfort.

I wish I had more advice to give you. I know my method seems harsh, but it worked for us. My kids always knew that I loved them and they are perfectly fine today. I hope you find something that works. Have you tried soft music? I've heard both positive and negtive about that, but don't have any experience with it.

Good luck!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLEN!!!
