That's okay try 19 hours in a car with a 3 year old that is what we are looking at. Airfare 11/27 - 12/4 is over $360 a person.
We drove our first and so far only trip to WDW. :teeth: We drove straight through from OR no stopping to sleep just switch off, bathroom breaks and Mc Donald's with our 3 boys 3,2, and 1 at the time. DH couldn't get away from work until a certain date and my sister's college wouldn't move their graduation date. It wasn't as bad as everyone thought it would be. Of course, next time I'll try and get a deal on airfare. :rolleyes1

:wizard: I hope BK gets to feeling better soon. It's so scary when they're temps. get high. :grouphug: I hope everything works out for Reese. It's scary that they would cut the kids that need it so much. I hope everything works out the way it's supposed to for your DH's grandma. Alzheimer's is such a hard thing. Prayers and PD for your family. :wizard:

If anyone has any advice on how to get a 1YO to sleep through the night or at least longer than 3 hours, I'd love some advice. :confused3 All of my other kids were sleeping by 1. I have been sick every other week for a month and a half and I'm pretty sure it's related to exhaustion.
Anyone with ideas would have my gratitude. :goodvibes

A few quick prayer requests please. Brantley-Kate has been sick since Sat pm with a 103 fever. Today she got a rash, and we figured out she has Fifths Disease. She still has the fever tonight, so she's missing school again tomorrow.

Just got off the phone with my MIL. My DH's grandmother is in the ICU with kidney failure. She has Alzheimer's and lives on an Alzheimer's unit. Well a nasty stomach bug went around the unit, and she got really dehydrated and it shut down her only working kidney (she has a history of kidney disease). They are doing surgery tomorrow, and my MIL is not sure if this is the end or not.

Finally, here in GA they have denied 65% of children enrolled in the medically necessary Medicaid for disabled children. Rees is being denied, and we will have to go to court to fight it. DH and I have no idea how we will make it without this extra insurance (we have incredible primary insurance but Rees' medical bills go into the 100's of thousands each year and the medicaid picks up what our primary doesn't). I may be doing a segment on our family in the Atlanta paper or TV. I will let you know.

So please keep us in your prayers. This week is really tough.

Denise - I hope everything works out for you and that BK is getting better. Pd for your DH's grandma too :grouphug:

is anyone watching American Idol?

That guy who just danced with Paula was hilarious!!!!!! and then he was married - DH and I were :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao:

I have my fingers in my ears singing la la la la la la la la la la la :goodvibes

Forgive me if I gloss over a few posts - don't want to spoil the show... although DH was quite impressed when I "predicted" a few of the funny things whilst watching last week's show!

I wanted to stop in quickly and say thanks to those who helped me find the 7th birthday designs.

Of course, DD said they were too girly and I had to work on my first design.

So thanks to Kate, I was able to take her basic design and add 3 words. Of course, without all of her really cool fonts, it's not as good as it could be, but for a first try, it'll do.
She also wanted Midnite's birthday badge on the back - so here is the back:

She is thrilled, and I guess that is all that matters.

:cheer2: Bev! Great shirt - now keep designing :thumbsup2

Jennifer - Hooray for 2000 posts!

Kristine - glad the surgery went ok - see your finger is still mousable or are you surfing the Dis with your nose?

Lovespoohbear - yuck - hope you don't get sick. I keep coughing in the night, hope I'm not getting a cold... I have to put my wedding dress and sandals back on this weekend and we're going through a cold snap!

Cinderumbrella - I hope it all works out with the flights... I'm keen to get ours booked as flights tend to get more expensive the closer we are to dates here - they release the cheap seats early on...

Baloo  We're all playing nicely in the sandbox tonight :)

Eyorecln - no advise on sleeping children I'm afraid - although any tips that might work on my cats I might have to borrow - Charlie has taken to "singing" and climbing up the mirror at 6am everyday - I think he's fallen in love with his reflection :rotfl:

Well I'm behind schedule again - better go take a shower before i'M late for work

I am sure you're right...but you know us obsessive planners like everything done in advance...and I mean WAAAAAYYYYY in advance!! :rotfl:

I know what you mean. Our spring break cruise was planned since April of last year. I just purchased tickets on Airtran last week. We actually purchased Atlanta to Miami (one way) then flying back Ft. Lauderdale to Atlanta (one way). It was cheaper to purchase that way instead of a round trip. I know it is difficult but most of the web specials aren't posted until 90 days out.

Anyone watching HGTV's Dream Home Giveaway? I want that house. It is absolutely beautiful. I have no idea how we'd pay the taxes, but I just gotta win it!!

Deb

I just read an article in our paper about a couple that was trying to make it in one of those dream houses with all the taxes. They said that most people couldn't possibly keep the home and come up with the taxes. I haven't seen the new one.

to everyone stressing about airfare in December- I would hold out - I think that if you wait you will find much better airfare -

How about for August? Think anything will come down between now and then? The cheapest we are looking at from Binghamton, NY (and I've also checked Buffalo, Albany, and Syracuse) is $264+/person (including all the taxes). I've talked to a few people who said that is good and that we should just go with it. We almost never travel, so I'm really not up on things like this.

I agree. Make sure the baby is safely in a crib that he/she can't get out of and let em cry. Our pediatrician told us it would take 2 - 3 nights, but it actually took 2 weeks. It was the worst experience ever, but the results are amazing. He is my best sleeper now. He even asks for naps and tells us that it is bedtime. We received that advice with all 3 boys, but never got up enough nerve to do it until number 3 was up every hour. I was completely worn out and finally tried it. As I said it was not easy, but well worth it. Good luck.

Deb

For all those considering driving... We've been there and done that and will do it again. My kids are amazingly well behaved on the drive which is 28 hours towing our camper. The money we save on airfare and lodging expenses makes it so worth it. Now that we have DVC :woohoo: :woohoo: we won't be driving as much, but still plan to bring the camper down every third year for a 3 week vacation. If the five of us can fly for under $700 then we fly, otherwise we would definately drive and use the money we save for souvies. Another advantage of driving is no rental car cost. The kids sleep half the trip anyway.

I looked for you, Beth. Check Airtran out of Buffalo. I don't know what dates you are looking at, but I plugged in the 19th-26th (Sat to Sat) and came up with $207. You will prob be able to get a good deal on Southwest out of Albany or Buffalo, if you can wait until they release their fares for August.

I also put my fingers in ears because this group is an hour ahead of my TV schedule....so I know not to get on until after I have watched it here especially when the competition truly starts.

I am not sure you could handle not coming on until yours aired!! :teeth:

Denise, I certainly hope things are a little better today. You know you, John, and the kids are always in our thoughts and prayers. :grouphug:

Here's some more PD for anyone else still fighting yucky bugs or stressful family issues. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Thank you for all the great birthday wishes! :sunny: Kevin got home around 9 p.m. and we ate cake (he gets an A+ for buying me a delicious cake) and watched Scrubs and American Idol. Tonight, he's bringing home dinner from one of my favorite restaurants. :lovestruc

Regarding the toddler sleeping issue, I have to agree with letting the baby cry. It's heartbreaking, but necessary. For whatever reason, Alyssa has decided to put up a fight at bedtime over the past few days, and this is the method we're using. She never cries more than five minutes...it's just a control thing. Good luck!

I'm spending my first night ever away from Alyssa this weekend. I'm going to an overnight scrapbooking event with my sister-in-law from 3:00 p.m. Saturday through noon on Sunday. I'm excited to "get away," and I know Kevin will take excellent care of Alyssa, but I've never been away from my baby for so long!!!

Hey Kate, did you hear back from American Girl regarding Julia's audition?

Hope everyone has a great day!
Amy :)
