I have had a long evening

My dad called me just after dinner to let me know that my grandma passed away tonight. As you all know she had spunk right up to the end but she has been physically suffering for years.

Watching her in pain for the last few years and knowing that she has wanted to die was very painful and yet it still shocked me. When I told Julia - I said the one thing that I know is true and gives me comfort

Julia asked when great grandma would be back and I said she wasn't coming back and she asked why - and I said "Because tonight she finally got to be with my grandpa again and she has been waiting a long time to see him and I am sure right now they are hugging and kissing!" Julia and I both got a big smile on our faces!!! My grandpa died 30 years ago and my grandma never took his wedding ring off her finger and now I know they are together again.

My mom is out of town - so I was with my dad tonight helping him make arrangments and I don't know what the week will bring.

Both of my grandma's died after a lot of suffering and watching my mom when her mom died was very painful and I learned then - that you are never prepared to lose your mom.

My dad is a very unemotional person and watching him tonight taught me the lesson all over again - you will never be prepared to lose your mom.

So if I am not around - or quiet - you all know why.

Obviously, this is also Princess Nancy's grandma.

I am so sorry. Losing a Grandmother is very tough especially if you were close with her. My granmother died 3 1/2 years ago and I took care of her for the last 18 months of her life. She lived with us and was so happy spending her whole day everyday with my children. My children were blessed to know their great grandma and we all still miss her. There are so many times that I pick up the phone to call her, but can't. Like your grandma she suffered in the end and she too was still in love with my grandpa that died 30 years before her. I really do feel your pain. Please let me know if I can help.

Thanks for asking! We leave a week from today!! Its hard to show that I'm excited because Matt doesn't know where we are going. He thinks his Grandad is coming to visit him and spend some special time with only him. He told me today "mom there is no way you would go to Disney without me. That would be so wrong!"





OK - so I'm wrong But we're goin'!!! And yes, I am excited, but I try not to type that too often... I don't want anybody to be upset that they can't all fit into my suitcase!!! But if you all could fit - I'd take ya with me!!!

As you said, you are never prepared to lose your mom. It's been 4 years, and I still miss mine.

What you said to Julia was perfect. Just perfect. I am so glad it gives you comfort. My deepest condolences to you, Nancy and both of your families. You know you can come here for all the support we can give.

Actually, a very sweet DDAer let me know about the move. One of the other Jennifers -- aka "bear74" and Olivia's Mommy. We DDAers take care of our own!!

Has anyone read Jan Karon's Mitford book series? The book's mayor always says, "Mitford takes care of its own" and that just came to mind when I typed DDAers take care of our own.

What Kate said is so true, you're never prepared to lose a parent -- or to watch a parent lose a parent. I saw a whole other side of my dad when my grandma died, and it brought us closer together. I realized how alone in the world he must feel without his mom -- that even though he is my invincible dad, all of a sudden he must feel like there is no one to protect him the way he protects me, and it made me want to make our family tie tighter (things had been strained since my parents' divorce). I moved to Dallas to be near him within the year and now have a great relationship with my dad.

I love what you told Julia (who is getting so grown up so fast and is absolutely a doll!).

I've been helping my 4th grader complete his project on wolves. He decided to make a wolf habitat diorama, brochure and t-shirt to accompany his oral report. He has great ideas, but it ended up being a lot of homework for both of us. Here is the t-shirt design, though I think he wants it to only say Wolves now

Here is the diorama. Paper mache, paint and a lot of trees that we made out of garland. We also put a stream in there, but it's hard to see. The moon actually lights up.

There is a little picture of a deer herd in there as he needed to show the wolves prey and I didn't have anything else on hand.

Ok..... seriously. I don't bank much on bad calls because eventually, they always even out (over all time, you know)? I'm not the kind to complain, becuase you can always say that they should have just scored more points, etc

But I SERIOUSLY would have boycotted the Superbowl (and preceding games remaining) if the Colts won that game. Can anyone BELIEVE that the interception call got overturned? Did they forget what they were reviewing?! It wasn't even that it wasn't given to him.... the official found it CONCLUSIVE that he didn't intercept it?! Even his 'explanation' contradicted itself. He said that "the defender had possession of the ball until......" .... well, if Polamalu had possession of a ball that Manning threw, it's a freakin' interception!!!!!!!!!

Ok guys - can someone give me a short and understandable explanation about this game you call American Football - DH is hooked on NFL and stays up into the early hours of the morning (3am on Sunday) watching the games. We switched last night's game on just as the Steelers(?) fumbled the ball and DH gasped and put his hand over his mouth - what what? I said - he said the colts could steal the game in the last few minutes so we had to watch to see what happened... but I just don't get it... the last minute and a half took about 5 minutes as they kept stopping the clock... and then in the final 17 seconds they all just looked at each other and then everyone decided the colts had lost...

Someone explain please... english football is so much easier to understand, I even get the offside rule

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your grandma. I know that there are no words that can erase the sadness that you are feeling. But hopefully knowing that your friends from the DDA are thinking of and praying for you will bring you some comfort. It will not be an easy week for you. I hope as time goes by your sadness will lessen. She is at peace now, and like you said, with your grandpa. That was such a touching story of true love, lasting 30 years.

Kate what a kind soul to mention Nancy in your grief - What you said to Julia is comforting to her, and you as well - keep her close, let her speak of her ggrandma - when I lost my grandma my dd was young, and I remember how much she helped me when I was struggling with my own grief!!

Marti, I'm trying to figure out how to fit in a suitcase or two!! I'd love to take an adult only trip!!



and Kate I never got the impression you were mad, or angry... more like disappointed, I cant even begin to imagine the hours you spend creating, anyone that works on creative endeavors would experience frustration not to be recognized, but to have your work "taken" and "claimed" by another - you should be outraged.... but instead, you posted a "friendly reminder"... You have great character.
