Well, my plans for lunch are shot. I was supposed to meet up with my two best friends here in town for our monthly lunch. However, since I've been in my office (which is in the basement), it decided to rain and is now below freezing. There is no way I'm going out on icy roads. Chuck wants me to pull the suburban into the garage in case we need to go rescue Becky from school. I can handle rain, I can handle snow, and I can handle cold but I can NOT tolerate ice.
sorry your lunch plans are shot again, Vicki. Let's hope it warms up and Becky won't need rescuing!

Stephanie thank you for the postcard!

Elin glad to hear you made it home safely with your daughter.

Vicki sorry your lunch plans did not work out.

Good afternoon, DDA! :)

Jen - Glad you are feeling better!

Deb - Hope you are not in too much pain! I will jump on the bandwagon and say that my back Dr. told me to take my pain meds as directed whether my back was hurting or not.

Elin - Glad you & DD are home safely! How are you feeling today?

Becky - Sorry your printer is dead. Maybe you can find a good deal on a new one.

Debbie - Hope your day is going OK! I spent 6 Christmases in retail management so I can sympathize!

Theresa - :grouphug: Hang in there! I know how you feel with Abi. Every time DS gets in trouble and tries to hide it he always feels SOOO sad when he gets caught. I do think you need to pick her punishment instead of allowing her to choose it.

Tammi - I am glad Alyssa's performance went well - even if it was short. DS's end of semester performances at theater never last more than 20 minutes, and those kids are 10-12 years old!

Vicki - I hope the ice isn't too bad! We aren't big fans of ice around here, either!

Good morning DDA! :sunny:

Matthew is either getting more teeth or the two that have cut through are really bothering him, because he's been waking up 3-5 times a night this past week. As a result, I'm pretty punchy from lack of sleep.

I've been trying to bake a little this holiday season, but only after the kids go to sleep, so the fancy cookies have been a three day process. Day 1 = make dough; Day 2 = cut out cookies; and Day 3 = decorate.

I felt a little like Martha Stewart last night as I was dipping my cream cheese cut-outs in chocolate.

Our weather has been unusually mild, and I think we're going to go to our zoo's Festival of Lights for a few hours tonight. We're really trying to focus on the things we want to do with the kids versus those tasks we feel we have to do. Our wrapping will get done eventually and hopefully the Christmas cards won't be too dusty by the time they get in the mail. :teeth:

I'm sending lots of :grouphug: and :wizard: to you all, especially Deb for those awful kidney stones and Marci...

Take care everyone!
Amy :)

Wow, Amy! Those look great. I used to make something similar. They are also great with crushed candy canes replacing the nuts.

Brother & I went to the mall today. I bought some jeans at Sears for DS because I thought he might need another pair to take to Disney, but it turned out that he didn't need them. Since all the jeans he has are the exact same size I decided we don't need another pair, especially since he is in a uniform for school. Sears has 30% off Lands End ladies stretch fleece pullovers, and I had a $5 coupon so I got a pullover for $9! :teeth:

I bought 3 ornaments at Hallmark, used a $5 coupon there AND got a free ornament with purchase of 3. Even though our tree isn't up I wanted to make sure I got my series ornaments before they sold out. Other ornaments can wait until the day after X-mas when they are half price.

Bought DH a pair of shorts at Macy's - 75% off plus a 20% off coupon. They were originally $42, paid $10.

Went to the Disney Store to start reloading that gift card for February. They had some Halloween and Thanksgiving pins marked down to $3, and I had a 15% coupon so I got 8 pins for $22. Those will come in handy to trade! DS got a really nice Mickey Santa pin from a CM at MK. I wonder what the CM had before that made someone willing to give up Santa Mickey? DS won't trade any of his pins that he buys. He will only trade ones that I have bought for him to trade that are duplicates, so pins on clearance are a magical thing! :)

You know, I always said I'd never get cell phones for my kids, but lately I've been rethinking that. 2 weekends ago, DH had to cover a potentially tragic story. 2 16 year old boys rode their bikes along the edge of Utah lake. They saw ice, and figured the lake was frozen through. They decided to ride their bikes across the lake. About 1 foot away from shore the ice cracked and they both fell through into the freezing water. It wasn't too deep, but they were in a marshy area, and their bikes (and themselves) got tangled up. One of them had a cell phone and was able to call 911. It's a huge lake, and these boys had no idea where they were on it. Search and rescue looked for them over an hour and couldn't find them. DH's news station sent their helicopter up to help with the search. They spotted the boys, and led Search and Rescue to them. By that time, they'd been in the freezing water about 2 hours. Luckily, they survived, and are fine now, but they could have been in really big trouble without that cell phone. Makes you think!

Yes, Glynis, that is why I finally decided that Laura was right about needing a cell phone. Matthew didn't really want one, but I decided that he should have one, too. The situation that pushed me to allow Laura to get a cell phone was a misunderstanding between a friend and I about who was picking the girls up from synchronized swimming. They were stuck waiting in the Boys and Girls Club which was practically deserted that time of night.

Thank you all for the hugs....I feel a bit better...but am not looking forward to talking to Abi after school. She said she grounded herself for 2 weeks....because of the referral...I am thinking that because of the way she brought it to me that she shouldn't be the grounder and that the main punishment would be for the failure to tell me in a timely manner. But what's a good punishment for a kid who started bawling as soon as she showed it to me and just plain is having a rough time of it???

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: for you and Abi. I'm sure it must have taken her time to get the courage to admit that she messed up. If this is a first time, I'd consider the stress that she is under and be a bit lenient on the punishment. I think that really getting her to talk about what was going through her head at the time is a great start. Maybe the two of you can come up with a suitable punishment together. :wizard:

Hope I'm not out of line by "saying" this, but you really shouldn't wait so long to take your pain meds, if you take it at the onset of your pain you may be able to avoid the worst part of the pain, if you wait until you can't stand it anymore you will just be suffering needlessly.

I agree, but the doctor prefers that I not take the meds if I'm going to be alone with the kids or if I need to drive. That covers about 1/3 of my day so they only gave me 20 pills so I don't think that will last until Jan 2. She said to call if I need more or if anything changes. The other reason that I have been delaying taking them is because I'm drinking a ton and hopefully I can flush the stone or crystal out on my own. The pain should immediately subside (I think). I want to know whether I'm still trying to pass it or if it might have passed. Does that even make sense? I think I need a nap.

Deb

Have a wonderful time Karen & congratulations on the graduation!

Amy,
I liked your Night before Christmas..so true..all of us are so busy doing "holiday" stuff that its hard to just sit down & spend time with the family which is what it is all about anyway. Mathhew is a cutie-pie!!!
I am impresses with your cookies..they look yummy, I'd ask for the recipe but I am a slice & bake kinda gal!

Deb,
Ok, I might be over stepping since I have never met you BUT take your meds before you are in absolute pain. I had a diseased gall bladder & had it out eventually. Before that i was on pain meds & my dr said never wait til its so bad to take them. Take them at the onset of pain...just saying this so you don't suffer & cause I care... :teeth:

Thanks for caring and thanks for the Christmas card too. The photo is great!
I'm actually going to take my meds soon as we have Nick's concert tonight and I do not want them to wear off before that is over. Right now things are still bearable from the one I took this morning.

Deb

You sure love to shop lol Glad you are getting such great deals. Wish I had a Disney Store closer!
