Here's a trick I learned early on after my surgery. When you go out to eat, get a to go box at the beginning of the meal. Take about 2/3-1/2 of your food and put it in the box before you start eating. That way, you've got your correct portion on your plate, and the rest is already boxed up out of the way, and the temptation to eat it is not there!
After a while, you get used to the smaller portions, and you'll begin to wonder how Americans can eat the large platefuls that we are used to seeing.
In college I ate out often at sit down places. I hate french fries so I would almost always get something that ended up with a salad, potato of some sort and maybe another veggie. Most of the time I only ate the salad and maybe a roll, because that was all I could eat. I would box up all the food I got and take it home and have like 1 - 3 other meals depending on what I ordered. I don't eat alot at once.
People would always tell me I shouldn't spend so much on restaurant meals. But I was like why not, when I am getting 2-4 meals out of it and it only cost like $10 and all I have to do is reheat. I know it is expensive and can be but it worked well for me at the time. I didn't have to buy many groceries plus it's not like I was ordering an appetizer, alcoholic beverage, entree, dessert, coffee etc.
That was the one thing I loved about my cruise I could order as many different things as I wanted and eat as much or as little of each I wanted. I got to sample so much stuff that I normally would not eat or get to try because I wasn't sure if I would like it. At our table we often ended up with one of almost everything on the menu and we tried some of each item. Our table was always covered in food. I never left stuffed either and I think I lost weight on the cruise.
Elin- You look fantastic keep up the good work.
Kristine- Congrats to you and Bill on the weight loss.
I got to get a new scale. That might be part of my problem and why I am driving myself crazy. I think I have about 10 to 15 pounds to get under 200 pounds for my Disney trip in about a month. Why I don't know an exact amount my scale is not right, it is relatively new but it has a rotating thing on it. I couldn't see why my weight varied by 10 pounds on a day to day basis. I kid you not, turns out the scale is completly possessed. I put an unopened 5 pound bag of sugar on it the first time it weighed like 2 pounds about 10 minutes later I put the same bag back on and it weighed like 10 pounds both times it started at zero.

How an unopened bag of sugar gained 8 pounds in ten minutes has got me.
That is my project once I get back from this weekend to really focus on losing weight eating healthy and excercising.
