Glynis have a fun day with Katies birthday party, look forward to seeing pictures!

Jennifer Happy Birthday to your DGM!

To everyone else have a great day :sunny:

WOW!!! That's terrific!!!! I made the 10 lb mark today....I am very happy.. Bill has also lost 10, but his weight loss is slowing due to his medication..not sure how we will deal with the potential weight gain side effect of the meds. Seems strange that you tell a diabetic to lose weight, and then give him pills that hinder the process :confused3 :confused3

I started on January 16, and have lost 52 pounds. The cost, through QVC, for the program that Denise and I are/were both on is about $185 a month, and that includes S&H. Through the NutriSystem website it is considerable more ($240?) but it is also a 7 day a week plan as opposed to the 5 days on/2 days off. Although you are not REALLY off their plan on those two days. They have guidelines to allow you to eat out or prepare your own meals during the weekend. It is a good way to monitor how much you eat, in my opinion, and a great teaching tool for the future.

Again, perfect for me. But maybe not when you have to cook for others. Although I imagine you are cooking for others anyway with such diverse needs in your family right now.

I decided to give it a try one month to see what I thought and here I am, awaiting my 7th shipment.

You look marvellous!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Here's a trick I learned early on after my surgery. When you go out to eat, get a to go box at the beginning of the meal. Take about 2/3-1/2 of your food and put it in the box before you start eating. That way, you've got your correct portion on your plate, and the rest is already boxed up out of the way, and the temptation to eat it is not there!

After a while, you get used to the smaller portions, and you'll begin to wonder how Americans can eat the large platefuls that we are used to seeing.

John and I were talking about that last night. We've decided to order 1 meal and 2 salads. We're going to split the meal. Not only will the portion be the right size, but we'll save money too! We get weekends off on this diet, so we are going to eat out one time per week and try to make a good choice for our entree. Tomorrow, we're going to get Mexican, and I think we'll get Fajitas without the sour cream, guacamole, beans.

Alex and I are going to the Georgia Tech Olympic Aquatic Center today. This is totally against my Georgia Bulldog bloodline......but............He qualified for the Gwinnett County Swim Meet so that meet is at GA Tech this year. He has been practicing all week so I hope he does well. He is used to getting 1st place in his age division but I was explaining to him that the county meet is the top 50 swimmers and in 50 yard freestyle he is only 15th. He will be swimming in both relays, long free, breaststroke and butterfly. It will be fun but a long day. Wish him luck and I will check back with ya'll later.

Lynn

good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's easier since John and I both are on it together. I just cook our veggies, salad, and he gets a low glycemic carb at dinner like brown rice, noodles, whole wheat bread (women don't). Then I make the kid's dinner. They are eating so much healthier too since I'm making lots of veggies and fruits. I think it's going to be great for us all. And on the weekends, they can eat what we do. We're going to grill lean meats, veggies for dinner tonight and tomorrow is our once a week treat eating out. Then back to the plan on Sunday. We're taking Fri dinner through Sun lunch off. Doing the plan Sun dinner through Friday lunch and afternoon snack.

Oh, and I had the blueberry muffins this am with some Polaner SUGAR FREE blackberry spread. They were actually really good that way, and the spread only had 15 calories total! No carbs or sugar, so I won't even count it as anything.

:goodvibes Thanks, Marci!

I have an updated picture I need to post from our Boston trip and the Duck Tour. It is commercial as all get out, but I had to buy it because I was shocked to see what I looked like now! If I have time I will get it scanned and post it, with another picture from Christmas before I started the plan so you all can have a comparison.

I'd love to see your new picture for inspiration! 52 pounds 6 months is great! And I bet you were around 10 pounds per month for the first 4 or so? Is my guesstimate right on about how much we should lose?

John weighed this am and is down 5 pounds since Monday! and I'm down 4 so far. Not too shabby!

I'm actually debating going off my meds. My last A1C was 5.9 (in the normal range), and since I'm exercising and eating no sugar and the "good" carbs, my blood sugar has actually been low. I think I'd lose weight faster. The doctor said I could probably come off my meds completely if I lose enough weight.

And WTG on 10 pounds! That's awesome!

And so ends my P3 or P4 or ?????????? Honestly, I don't know what those letters/numbers mean, but I did have a little posting party!

Glynis, hope the b'day party is a huge success today! Tell Katie happy birthday!

what meds are you on? Bill is on metformin (sp?) The doc said this was the least weight gaining med for diabetes....they also said if he lost enough weight he would most likely be able to come off the meds. 5.9 is great!!!

I am on Metformin and Glipizide together. It's called Metaglip and is a combo of each. I tend to run low to normal during the day. My problem is at night my blood sugar goes very high. At bed it will be 140 and at 8 am (with NO food or drink) it's around 190. Very weird.

I got it while pg with the kids and it never resolved even after losing 80 pounds. Now I'm on my last 30 or so. Then hopefully I'll be drug free!

Elin, you look great!!

I am off to the beach now with the kids..be back later to check in. Hope you all have a great day!

Kristine -- congrats on 10! And congrats to Bill!

Denise and John -- congrats on your first week and your weight loss!

I think the hardest part is the first week or two.

That is very strange!!

He was at 119 today in the am. I was surprised how rapidly it is dropping...I need to come up with some kind of exercise plan...since he has vascular necrosis in both knees I feel somewhat doomed.

Can he swim since there wouldn't be pressure on his knees? I'm off to hit the treadmill for my 20 minutes and then we're going to a friend's house to go swimming. See y'all tonight!

He doesn't know how to swim! Can you believe that?! What he really needs is double knee replacement....but until some of this other stuff gets under control, I don't see that happening any time soon.
