The Darling Family Takes on Marathon Weekend: Jan at the Boardwalk Villas

Just wanted to post and tell you how much I am enjoying your TR. One of the first things I've been doing when I get over here on the trip reports is to check and see your updates. Great job with the marathon, you did an amazing job!

Thank you! I really do enjoy writing them. It helps with my Disney homesickness:goodvibes

The train pulled up to Rafiki’s planet watch and we hopped on. We were cutting it close, but I was pretty sure we’d still be able to make the 11:30 Flights of Wonder show. And we did! The front of the theater was full so we found a seat towards the back, but we still had no problems seeing the action. As we sat down Wendy informed me she had FOB. I asked her what that meant and she said, “Fear of Birds.” This was new information to me. I suggested she close her eyes for the show. (Real sympathetic mother aren’t I?) The show began.

Wendy seemed to be managing her FOB Ok.

The boys loved the show. They showed no sign of FOB.

And if you notice Wendy is trying really hard not to smile in that last picture. The best part of the show was when the hawk flew around the audience. Why? Because the CM stood right by Wendy and the hawk flew right there.:lmao:

See that is DH’s head in the foreground and Wendy was on his other side. Poor Wendy and of course the only thing I did was laugh. (In case you haven’t figured it out, I really don’t think Wendy has FOB.) Some of these birds were just so beautiful. Here is a shot of the bald eagle.

There is one of these in our neighborhood and I see him every once and a while when I’m out running. Such majesty. Anyway everyone except Wendy really enjoyed the show. Tummies were rumbling so we headed over to another place we’d never been before for lunch.

I’d read such rave reviews of this place here on the DIS that we had to give it a try. Here we are enjoying our meal.

What was the final report? DH especially just loved this place! He still mentions it sometimes. He now has two favorite restaurants at Disney World. Le Cellier and Flametree BBQ. Wendy burned her tongue on the hot chocolate so she doesn’t rate it as highly. The boys ate their hot dogs so it was fine with them. On our way out we stopped to enjoy the lovely view.

Then we headed over to Expedition Everest to use up a few of those fast passes DH had acquired. On the way over we were waylaid by a Photopass guy. He did quite the photoshoot with us. The lighting is a bit off in these, but we still got some shots I like.

After the shoot DH sent me on Expedition Everest. This is a fun coaster. The right amount of thrills plus great theming. Here is my redneck shot, but I’m not really visible.

While I was riding DH bought himself a shirt in the shop.

He thought this was sooooo funny because he had to have a mountain rescue. I sent DH off to ride and while DH was riding Michael found a must buy. He absolutely loves this thing.

I find it quite amusing. Isn’t the Yeti supposed to be scary? This is anything but.:confused3 Anyway when DH returned we decided to head out of the park. It had been a great day, but we wanted to take advantage of the warmer afternoon. This was forecast to be the warmest day of our trip and the kids were really hoping they could try out the clown slide. I was questioning that. It was maybe 70 degrees. Did we actually go swimming?

We have never done FOW...it's on our list though! Those birds are beautiful! I love that your DH bought that tee considering what he went through..that's great!!

Great PP btw!!!

Thank you so much for posting the pictures of Flights of Wonder. In all of our trips to the Animal Kingdom we haven't seen the show. But, I think it's something that we will all enjoy so I'm putting it on the "must do" list.

I love the shirt that your husband found in the Expedition Everest store. I can understand why he had to buy it.

nice update!!! We are huge FT BBQ fans too!! Did they have the corn bread muffins while you were there?! They used to have them and we loved them and then they were taken away!

I bet you went swimming! If all else fails, there's a hot tub right?!

OMG I am totally cracking up at your picture of the stuffed Yeti! He was the #1 character my girls had to bring home during our trip last year. However, we couldn't find them anywhere (probably because we didn't make it to Animal Kingdom but we did look everywhere else all over WDW) so we ended up ordering online and having them shipped home! My youngest sleeps with him every night so you can imagine he is not very white anymore. A nice shade of grey. He goes everywhere with her now. Good thing he is smushy and travels well. She loves that thing!!! She has never been on EE so I think she has no idea what he is supposed to look like.

On a different note, I see you are DVC. Do you have another trip booked?

Glad you all for the most part enjoyed FOW! It really is a cool show and I agree about the bald eagle. It is an amazing bird and I wouldn't consider myself a huge bird lover. haha

I like the Yeti ball too. :thumbsup2

Hi! My family also is addicted to finding hidden mickeys especially my dh. Thanks for letting us know that Rafikis planet has a lot of them. They were Cute! The birds at flights of wonder look beautiful, we have not been to the show yet. I have also read good reviews about Flame Tree Bbq. We will have to try it next trip. The photopass pics in front of EE were Great!

I had to laugh that Wendy said she had FOB. That is very witty! I think that I suffer a bit from that as well, but your pictures make me think that I should try to get past it.

You always have such great Photopass pictures. I love the one that you are all tucked in close together. What a beautiful family!

Finally all caught up :teeth:

Great updates :thumbsup2 Loving all the PP photos.

Wendy got some great shots on the safari, great elephant shot :) Love the Rafiki's Planet Watch pics too, very cool seeing all the Hidden Mickeys.

Flame Tree is just the yummiest right? Looks like you guys all enjoyed it to :)

Great update! We enjoyed Flame Tree BBQ too with the exception of the aggressive birds! They wouldn't leave my kids alone when they were trying to eat! Did you run into any of those? I'd like to see FOW. The kids enjoyed the bird show at our zoo and I'm sure FOW is much better.

I actually like that Mountain Rescue shirt! (But not the reason your DH bought it.)
The stuffed Yeti is totally funny.
I still have never been on Expedition Everest. It kills me because I love coasters but none of my kids is tall enough...yet!

Amanda

I totally sympathize with Wendy's FOB! :lmao: I'm not sure if it was the movie "The Birds" that did it for me or what...do NOT show her that movie! :rotfl: I think maybe I could handle FOW though, as long as a bunch of them aren't flying around at the same time!

I really wanted to try Flame Tree, but it was so hot we all decided to eat indoors. Maybe this trip if the weather cooperates. That Yeti is too cute, I may have to bribe Bella with one of those if she will try EE (assuming she makes 44 inches, she's 42 right now).

I've got to tell you, your marathon story has so inspired me. I've been working out a lot lately, but have never been a runner. Your TR has inspired me to try. I printed out a plan to complete a 5K in 8 weeks. If I do that, I'll take it from there. I don't know if I could ever do a marathon, but I might be up for some day trying a half. The Disneyworld Princess Half Marathon might be fun! It would be right around my 39th birthday.

So I'm rambling, but I just wanted to let you know how inspiring your report has been. Congratulations.

You should do FOW next trip. It can be you new thing in the park thing:goodvibes

Sorry my pictures aren't that great. Little point and shoot and we were towards the back. It was a really enjoyable show. My DH is actually wearing that shirt right now.

They didn't have the corn bread muffins so I guess they are still gone. Even without the cornbread we will be back.

What is with that Yeti? Michael calls him Mr. Puff Puff and hauls him around and sleeps with him at night too. I'm sure he will be a matching shade of grey with yours soon. Our next trip isn't until next January. It is just me and DH to run the half. We're booked at BLT for 3 days. Summer of 2012 I'm hoping to do a really long family trip with a split between WLV and AKV. I have to get some more points before then though. I'm trying to save my pennies.

Glad you all for the most part enjoyed FOW! It really is a cool show and I agree about the bald eagle. It is an amazing bird and I wouldn't consider myself a huge bird lover. haha

I like the Yeti ball too. :thumbsup2
There were so many beautiful birds in that show. I really did enjoy it. I'm sure we'll do it again sometime.

Rafiki's is definitely the place for Hidden Mickey! And 2 new things to try for you at Animal Kingdom next trip!:thumbsup2

The show may be worth trying to conquer your FOB. They had some really beautiful birds. I love that Photopass picture too. I have it blown up and it is sitting on my piano. All of my kids look sincerely happy. I love it!

Great update!

FOB!!! :lmao:
Yes, Wendy thinks she is soooo funny:rolleyes:

Sorry about the Arsenal game today. DH is pretty bummed. Wendy may end up being a photographer. Flame tree has now become the restaurant of choice at the AK.

There were a few birds around, but they weren't too bad. Maybe because it wasn't really crowded. FOW was an excellent bird show. You'd enjoy it.
