I'm so excited! We're adopting a kitty today!
The plan was to adopt 2 kittens or young cats, but while we investigating shelters last weekend, I made the "mistake" of picking up one of the older cats. He was so affectionate, he purred, he talked to us. And after I held him, and put him back on the shelf he had been lounging on, he looked like he wanted to throw himself into my arms. We left without asking about additional information because we knew he was an older cat and our "plan" was young cats. But I couldn't stop thinking about him. The shelter was closed until Tues, so DH couldn't call and ask about him until then. We found out he was there because his owner had died unexpectedly and the owner's family, "didn't want to deal with him." My heart just broke for him.
He is 7 years old, and he's all black which I thought were two strikes against him being adopted quickly. The shelter has older cats that have been there for 2 and 3 years, and he was so loving that I didn't want him to be stuck there that long without a home. So he's coming home with us.
We still plan on getting a pair of young cats, but that will probably wait until next year, and depending on how well he adjusts to us.
