Personally, I liked Tom Hanks in the role but he did a better job in Angels and Demons.

It doesn't take much for some people to get bent out of shape. When you've been told one thing your entire life, any suggestion to the contrary probably doesn't sit well. At least they've stopped burning people who don't fall in line at the stake.

I read both books and saw both movies.

I thought Tom Hanks was a good choice. The problem was that the movie sucked. They left out way too much stuff for the story to come together.

The Angels and Demons movie was a lot better than the DaVinci Code, but obviously still not as good as the book.

Even though it was a work of fiction, there was so much history and religious theory in the book that it was interpreted more as a more realistic work than books by people like Stephen King and Dean Koontz.

Angels and Demons didn't cause the same kind of controversy because although it portrayed some aspects of Catholicism in a very negative light, it didn't challenge some of the core beliefs in the same way and the main focal point of the story was much further into the fantasy/sci-fi realm than DaVinci Code.
