Hey y'all, have you heard about the lawsuit filed regarding BHO's citizenship? :confused3 DH just said he heard about it on the radio just now. I guess Bill Cunningham (a radio talk show host in cinnci) is interviewing the atty who filed the suit. It's gotta be bunk right - I mean how could he get this far in the process?

McCain's up by 10 — AND Olbermann got canned from the campaign coverage "news" desk?! Am I dreamin' or what? Have I entered an alternative universe where all my dreams come true? Am I…am I…at…Disney World?!!!

I thought he released a copy of his birth certificate? :confused3

Another subject I wish people would just drop. It's a distraction. We don't need it.

I heard about this about a week ago. I dont know full details, but the guy who is sueing is a Democrat. He basically said that he knew the Republicans were going to bring it up so he was being proactive. He is alleging that he was born in either Indonesia or Kenya (not sure on that one) so he is not eligible to be President. I am pretty sure it is bunk, and the guy who sued issued his own press releases.

From Joe Biden's appearance on Meet the dePressed:

MR. BROKAW: You're a lifetime communicant in the Catholic Church. You've talked often about your faith and the, and the strength of your feelings about your faith.

SEN. BIDEN: Actually, I haven't talked often about my faith. I seldom talk about my faith. Other people talk about my faith.

MR. BROKAW: I'll give you an opportunity to talk about it now.

SEN. BIDEN: Yeah.

MR. BROKAW: Two weeks ago I interviewed Senator Nancy Pelosi--she's the speaker of the House, obviously--when she was in Denver. When Barack Obama appeared before Rick Warren, he was asked a simple question: When does life begin? And he said at that time that it was above his pay grade. That was the essence of his question. When I asked the speaker what advice she would give him about when life began, she said the church has struggled with this issue for a long time, especially in the last 50 years or so. Her archbishop and others across the country had a very strong refutation to her views on all this; I guess the strongest probably came from Edward Cardinal Egan, who's the Archbishop of New York. He said, "Anyone who dares to defend that they may be legitimately killed because another human being `chooses' to do so or for any other equally ridiculous reason should not be providing leadership in a civilized democracy worthy of the name." Those are very strong words. If Senator Obama comes to you and says, "When does life begin? Help me out here, Joe," as a Roman Catholic, what would you say to him?

SEN. BIDEN: I'd say, "Look, I know when it begins for me." It's a personal and private issue. For me, as a Roman Catholic, I'm prepared to accept the teachings of my church. But let me tell you. There are an awful lot of people of great confessional faiths--Protestants, Jews, Muslims and others--who have a different view. They believe in God as strongly as I do. They're intensely as religious as I am religious. They believe in their faith and they believe in human life, and they have differing views as to when life--I'm prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception. But that is my judgment. For me to impose that judgment on everyone else who is equally and maybe even more devout than I am seems to me is inappropriate in a pluralistic society. And I know you get the push back, "Well, what about fascism?" Everybody, you know, you going to say fascism's all right? Fascism isn't a matter of faith. No decent religious person thinks fascism is a good idea.

MR. BROKAW: But if you, you believe that life begins at conception, and you've also voted for abortion rights...

SEN. BIDEN: No, what a voted against curtailing the right, criminalizing abortion. I voted against telling everyone else in the country that they have to accept my religiously based view that it's a moment of conception. There is a debate in our church, as Cardinal Egan would acknowledge, that's existed. Back in "Summa Theologia," when Thomas Aquinas wrote "Summa Theologia," he said there was no--it didn't occur until quickening, 40 days after conception. How am I going out and tell you, if you or anyone else that you must insist upon my view that is based on a matter of faith? And that's the reason I haven't. But then again, I also don't support a lot of other things. I don't support public, public funding. I don't, because that flips the burden. That's then telling me I have to accept a different view. This is a matter between a person's God, however they believe in God, their doctor and themselves in what is always a--and what we're going to be spending our time doing is making sure that we reduce considerably the amount of abortions that take place by providing the care, the assistance and the encouragement for people to be able to carry to term and to raise their children.

So, Joe - do ya or doncha? And your running mate wants to kill babies who survive abortion?!?!!??:confused3

I am getting so tired of all the crap being slung around, from both sides. Just tell me the issues, tell me where they stand, and let me make a decision. I cannot fault anyone for voting how they choose. I respect everyone's decision. But I want it to be based on issues that are important to them. Not on stupid things like Obama being a Muslim (which I don't believe he is) or Palin's son really not being hers. It is just stupid! There is nothing about Obama that I like other than his gay rights stance. But I cannot support someone who says they are not voting for him because they think he is a Muslim. That is just ignorant. Sorry - just getting fed up with all the personal attacks from both sides.

My reaction was similar - I just asked my dh if I could be asleep? :cloud9: It's like sanity is slowly returning out there!

I thought he released a copy of his birth certificate? :confused3

Another subject I wish people would just drop. It's a distraction. We don't need it.

I think it was a Clinton lawyer that file the suit. He said he wanted to get it out of the way before the election.:confused3 Supposedly, they can prove he was born in Kenya. They say it was because the airline wouldn't let his mother fly in such a late stage of pregnancy. They say the birth certificate isn't his.

I wonder if they put this out there so.. when it's disproved...it will make him look like a victim. I really want to know about his missing Columbia years.

I agree, but apparantly he had an indonesian passport when he traveled to Pakistan. From my understanding you can lose citizenship :confused3 , so I don't think the birth certificate would matter. :confused3

You'll have to forgive me, I'm just hearing about it. I've always thought we could beat Obama, so the thought of another candidate stepping in is not appealing to me. I'm just curious if this hold weight.

You'll have to forgive me, I'm just hearing about it.

And I don't want it to sound like I'm lecturing anybody. Especially here on this thread. Just stating my opinon, in a general sense, that I'd rather our side focus on the issues. The Democrats and the media are going to continue to smear our candidates. I think it hurts them, with the general public. But the degree to which that hurts them is undercut when we focus on the same kind of stuff.

Yeah, the victim thing, is an example of what I'm getting at.

His Columbia years, and his earlier career in Chicago, absolutely, that should be looked at. It's been \virtually ignored by the press, because of the left fring people he associated with.

Thought that I would let you know that my vote is now 80% McCain and 20% Obama.......popcorn::

Personally I'm not sure he is a Muslim, I just thought it was a weird slip to say. :confused3 His religion makes no difference to me unless he sympathizes with muslim terrorists or is a practicing satanist or something.
I'm also not sure he's a Christian. How much can you follow Christ if you sit for 20 years under a man who preaches hate?

As for citizenship, didn't he finally release his birth certificate?

I agree if it's not true. If it is true then it becomes an issue - the citizenship requirement is there for a reason. Oh well, I guess we'll know soon enough, and like I said, I'm sure it's bunk - just hadn't heard about it before.

I don't think he is Muslim....I believe he is a Christian....where his Christian beliefs lie is another story.
I don't think he is Muslim....I believe he is a Christian....where his Christian beliefs lie is another story.
Yup, like I said earlier. ;) :cutie:

Does anyone know what McCain's religious beliefs are? I know Palin is evangelical and I think Biden is supposed to be catholic.

Hhhmmmm.....Obama claims he was going to join military after high school? This is the first I'm hearing about this - any of you guys heard this one? And how come its not in either of his memoirs????:confused3 I trust this man about as far as I can throw him - and I can't throw for crap.

I agree. Maybe I missed it, but I've never heard him say anything like that before.

Like at that Forum a few weeks ago, when asked "When Does Life begin?" A core Christian belief is at conception. NO real practicing Christian would say anything else.:rolleyes1

I always sort of wonder, if asked, could he recite The Lords Prayer!:confused3

As always with Obama, its never just one thing he says or alludes too...but when you string em all together, there has to be concern.

Agreed again! :thumbsup2 It's just one thing after another with him.
