I agree. My son goes to a public university where he is required to take a variety of DIVERSITY courses. The only diversity course open this semester was Black Women's History. The other day, he came home ripping because the teacher(I wil not even call her a professor) went around the room and asked them for whom they were voting. When he said McCain she gave him a hard time. LOOK, I pay taxes for this PUBLIC universtiy and as with k-12 public schools teachers or professors have NO right to try and influence my child's vote. HE got into a huge argument with the class and they called my son a racist b/c he was not voting for BO. Keep in mind all of his arugments were not to the man but to his lack of experience. If he is forced to take these classes then why should he be harrassed? I will not even write some of the things they said to him. This is not the first time that he has been harrassed in this type of diversity class.

Funny how rascism can only be rascism if it affects certain groups and not others. If the tables were turned it would be front page news.

PUBLIC school in any form should remain neutral considering who pays the salaries of these professors!

Of course the discussion and insults are seriously disturbing, but I find the going around the room asking who the students are voting for equally disturbing. For whom one chooses to vote is an entirely private matter - hence the privacy curtain in the voting process. This instructor was clearly out of line. What might have happened had your son simply said his choice was a private issue? Is he worried that his grade may now be compromised because his teacher is aware of his views? This just really irks me and there seems to be no consequences for this type of bias in the classroom, newspapers, tv, etc.

I think it may be a somewhat legitimate supply chain problem. Given that so many pumps were out, I'm guessing it's gonna get crazy tomorrow. IIRC it was similar after Katrina

Talking head on CNN (Campbell Blue's show) said wholesale gas price was now $4.90. Add on taxes, fees, and profit... $5 may seem cheap come Sunday.

I knew that McCain's war injuries prevented him from raising his arms above his shoulders so he can't throw a baseball or comb his hair, but he also has dexterity issues with his fingers from being repeatedly broken. He is unable to tie his own shoes or effectively use a keyboard. I don't think it was wise of the Obama camp to attack him on that angle. Also, I heard that Obama gave a speech last week and was mocking how McCain holds his arms at his sides in a bent, stiff fashion.

ETA: I just saw a thread was started about this issue.

A lot of the pipelines that Ike could ultimately affect are Natural Gas, but there are a few Oil as well. What I would be worried about are the Refineries. If they are severely damaged they could take months to ramp up to full operation, it may be time to buy a moped.

In our business we use the force majeur clause to shut down production during these times. Basically, if it's an act of God we don't have to produce and are under no legally binding terms to continue to drill or produce. This stands for wells as well as pipelines. It's a standard clause in the Producer's 88.

So yep, if it really gets bad and there is siginificant damage we could be seeing a spike due to lack of supply out of the Gulf, add to that OPEC cut it's production on Wednesday by 500,000 barrels a day for fear of over supplying the market and you can see why we may be in a bit of a pickle.

Transparent - I read your thread earlier but didn't have a chance today to respond. Man o man I'd be livid.

I have a half-DB who is in HS. He decided to become a Conservative last year. This summer he studied some book about how to argue with a liberal and was practicing on some family.

He had an issue with a certain "group" at his school, they got away with something they shouldn't have, my DB threatened to protest it, and the school threatened to suspend him! (But this group can get away with whatever they want to do.)

While they where 'deciding' whether to suspend him or not, my mother asks my DH what she can do, she's pretty livid. My DH tells her to threaten THEM back. He said to tell the school that they are going to call Sean Hannity and see what he thinks of the situation.

My mother told them that and they decided not to suspend him.

My DB is getting football scholarships and I hate to see him risk losing them over that kind of thing. I can't imagine how fustrating school must be right now for some kids.

Yeah, I typed about 3 different multi-points-earning responses before I settled on "I am speechless." I am appalled at some of the responses there. "Oh, my old mother got a computer! If she can use one, he can too!" Really, you can't make this kind of depravity up. Some of these people are just soulless.

I just posted on that thread. I understand there will be a ton of mud-slinging until November but that is the same as saying of a paraplegic "He can't be President, he can't walk to Air Force One."

I posted on that thread, had a much longer post than what is there now, but deleted most of it. Not worth talking to the walls. I think BO is trying to go for the cool factor with the youth vote. Next will be the ad where he is texting with some hunky foreign head of state. Presidential candidates have seemed pretty fixated on bringing out the youth vote (for themselves) for a few elections now at least, but I think Obama needs to be really careful about how he is going about that. I see a major backfire on his horizon. He needs to remember that they are not the only voting block, nor are they the most reliable! In the meantime, he's alienating people right and left with his snooty, superior attitude!

*edited to add; of course I hope he fails to realize this, because at the moment he's doing our side a lot of favors. LOL
