She is one of this years recipients this year of the Kennedy Center Honorees. President Bush gives out the awards.

One cannot control one's initials. After all what choice does a baby have when it comes to his/her name. What if Barak's name was Adam Harrinngton? OR Adam Sammual Smith? Would we refrain from using his intials then?????NO we would not! We would enjoy it!

That makes me SO ANGRY!!! Teachers are there to teach children how to analyse and think for themselves, not to indoctrinate them into their own personal political beliefs! We had those kinds of experiences with our daughter in high school as well. I'm so glad you called and brought it to the principal's attention, and that he actually cared. I'm also so glad my daughter managed to graduate with the ability to think for herself and question what people are saying rather than just parrot her ultra liberal teachers for the rest of her life!

I agree. My son goes to a public university where he is required to take a variety of DIVERSITY courses. The only diversity course open this semester was Black Women's History. The other day, he came home ripping because the teacher(I wil not even call her a professor) went around the room and asked them for whom they were voting. When he said McCain she gave him a hard time. LOOK, I pay taxes for this PUBLIC universtiy and as with k-12 public schools teachers or professors have NO right to try and influence my child's vote. HE got into a huge argument with the class and they called my son a racist b/c he was not voting for BO. Keep in mind all of his arugments were not to the man but to his lack of experience. If he is forced to take these classes then why should he be harrassed? I will not even write some of the things they said to him. This is not the first time that he has been harrassed in this type of diversity class.

Funny how rascism can only be rascism if it affects certain groups and not others. If the tables were turned it would be front page news.

PUBLIC school in any form should remain neutral considering who pays the salaries of these professors!

Bella, I think your son should go to the Dean. First the dept, then the college if necessary. There is NO reason why it is a history teacher or history class's business whom anybody is voting for or why!

Hey gang, I took the kids out to Krispy Kreme for dessert tonight. Let me tell you, it was really weird seeing the gas situation here in piedmont section of NC. I saw gas lines two blocks long at two places. About half the stations were out of gas. Prices for regular unleaded ranged from $3.59 to $4.46. Every place that had an open pump had a line, no matter what the price.

Assuming no more gas is coming tonight, I wonder what it's going to be like around here tomorrow. I've got 1/2 tank in one vehicle, and 3/4 in the other. I have no plans to go out of town, so I figured I'd skip filling my tank tonight.

Is it anything like that where any of you are?

I think it may be a somewhat legitimate supply chain problem. Given that so many pumps were out, I'm guessing it's gonna get crazy tomorrow. IIRC it was similar after Katrina
