I'm not a member of the Hannity forums, but there are several Obama supporters on there who are all for it. Even going so far as to throw the unpatriotic charge out there if people didn't want their children to do it, and telling them they were bad parents and their children were lazy. There was a funny story either there or on another forum that I read today that was talking about someone showing the plan on Obama's website to a co-worker who voted for Obama and starts college in January. The co-worker flipped out when he read what he would "have" to do if he wanted the $4,000. Can't believe Obama would do that to him, and is absolutely furious about it now. Umm, yeah. That's why you need to actually read and research before voting.
Required volunteerism is not volunteerism. It's compulsory service, period. The college part of it can be justified (although I still dislike it), because the student is getting something in exchange for their time.
Involuntary servitude, however, is what the Middle School and High School programs are based on the information we have so far. Involuntary servitude is unconstitutional by the way (13th Amendment, anyone?), unless it's punishment for a crime. I have no doubt if it was made a federal education requirement, we'd see lawsuits. Would be interesting to see if the courts ruled against it, or if they said "Well, they're minors, they're not protected by the 13th Amendment because students check most of their rights at the school door."
