The biggest problem with the Republicans and I say this as a Democrat, is that y'all play nice. Get dirty. Pull every stop.

We do play too nice; for example, JM not bringing up jeremiah wright. He should have played it and played it until people understood. He should have harped on the relationships with ayers and weather underground. He should have mentioned rezko. He should talked about ACORN. He should have kept up the lack of experience.
I'm not advocating playing dirty the way the left does. I'm saying we start hitting them where it hurts...with the TRUTH.
And get some real conservatives to run.

ITA!!! The first time I saw Republicans stand up and fight was during the 2000election. I am so tired of them rolling over and playing dead. This is why folks are so afraid of Palin. She's not afraid to mix it up.

The problem with the Republicans is that they are so worried that that we be liked that they just let the Dems BOHICA us. We need to be bi-partisan in some things because this is all our country, not just conservatives. But we need to hold to our values and take the party back!

Yep...time to get to work.

And that might also be a great use for this thread - encouraging each other to a call for action - keeping each other aware of what's going down in the House and Senate - kinda like we did with the online polls after each debate.

Lots of work! I'm glad our [hope-they-]do-nothing house/senate isn't in session all year 'round!

Thank-you. We really need to take a page from the PUMA handbook and hand them their ____ on a plate in 2010.
They want change-let's give it to 'em.
Lord, whenever I need a lift (or a swift kick in the "pants") I go to a PUMA forum.:lmao: No eeyores or whiners allowed there. We need to put our big girl panties on and start rockin'. I've had to fight for everything I've ever had....my whole life. I'm not exactly the sweet little "turn the other cheek" type. I may get down...(for a minute)....and maybe a little "over dramatic" at times....but, I'm never down for the count.

By the way, this totally p____ me off, too -- I seriously grew to respect JM during the election but, honestly, he tried harder to protect HIS MARXIST/SOCIALIST OPPONENT [when he should have been trying harder to protect us, by the way] than he is protecting HIS RUNNING MATE.

GAHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Sorry, with '95's most recent post, my estimation of Bobby Jindal just dwindled a bit.....

I know you guys may be all about Palin now....But my advice (and i know you dont want it)....would be to get yourselves on the Bobby Jindal Bandwagon. He is an exceptional public servant, who clearly has what it takes, and HOPEFULLY in 8 years will make a great candidate!!!

Remember you heard it from this loony liberal first

I know...everyone is still excited about Sarah because she was so new to the scene. Seems like everyone barely got excited about her...and it was over.

I agree 4 years is a long time from now.

I do like what I've seen about Bobby Jindal so far. I look forward to learning more about him.

The main thing is not the person...it is the conservative cause. I'm excited we have some good up-and-coming candidates out there. :cool1:

Sounds good! We need to work towards the "right" kind of change. :thumbsup2

I like that idea, Debbie. The grassroots are very effective.

Blestmom... I keep hearing rumblings about Palin going to DC. What's up with Steven's seat....any word?

Me, too, Elle -- those PUMAs rock and I hope they stay active as long as possible.

Hell hath no fury than a woman [in their case, HRC and in our case, SP and me!] scorned....

Palin can pick a temporary replacement if Stevens resigns, but she cannot just appoint herself to the seat. By Alaska State law, it is by special election.

There is even some discrepancy as to if she can pick the temporary (I believe it is 90-day) replacement, or not. The Alaska courts will decide that, I guess.

Kind of a mess.

At any rate, she will fulfill her Governor role, and then I suppose if she wanted to run for the Senate seat when the term is over, she could.

But she cannot just appoint herself.

I may not be a brighter legal mind but,......I think the BC is a moot point at this time. There is no way they will allow anyone to prove he doesn't meet the qualifications. The damage to our Country... in it's fragile state... would be enormous.

Agreed. I'm even one of the ones who thinks there's nothing to this, most likely. But I find it absolutely bizarre that the whole thing wasn't tossed out.

::yes::

One thing I have always found maddening about McCain is the fact that he is more interested in being the dear friend of the opposition than throwing down the gauntlet and fighting. And as y'all say, there's a difference between being nasty and playing dirty and actually fighting fire with fire. There is no excuse for McCain not slamming Obama and the Dems on the Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae issues, among others. Each time he'd start on an issue, I always got the feeling he found it very unseemly. Unfortunately McCain is more likely to stab a Republican in the back than blast a Democrat on policy. If you followed the Republican primaries closely, you'd have seen the absolute contempt he held for Mitt Romney. He was far nastier and gloves-off to him than he ever was to Obama.

And that might also be a great use for this thread - encouraging each other to a call for action - keeping each other aware of what's going down in the House and Senate - kinda like we did with the online polls after each debate.

Also agreed. My problem is I now have two pinheads for Senators. At least I have a conservative Congressman though. When I was writing and emailing about the bailout, I got a nice, thoughtful response email and later a follow-up postcard from my Rep. who voted against it twice. From Sen. Jim Webb (who voted for it), I got a rambling email almost 3 pages long a month after the fact, and the first half was nothing but ranting about Republicans and Bush. I felt like writing back and telling him to try the blame game with someone else. As a Virginian, I demand action and solutions to problems, not whining to me about how it's not your fault.

Then again, Webb's lame self is the one who, when President Bush asked him how his son overseas in the service was doing, completely ignored Bush's question and then pitched a collossal hissy fit about the war. Bush's response was along the lines of: "That's not what I asked you. I was asking how your son was."

Webb has no class, and I still can't believe I'm stuck with him and now Mark "Homeschoolers, Christians, and gun owners are a threat to the fabric of America" Warner as my Senators.

For me it's a combo. Sarah got me excited about the ticket. I literally could not take my eyes off her when she was on TV. She was so charismatic and I wanted to listen to what she had to say. I knew absolutely nothing about her before the convention but after her speech I was fired up! With BOH I can't turn off the TV fast enough. JM made me fall asleep. Talk about a snoozer. I'm really excited to see what comes out of this in regards to our party. :goodvibes

I knew she couldn't appoint herself but, had heard about the special election. I think it was on Greta....I heard talk about getting her to DC...to keep her in the spotlight.

I'm not a member of the Hannity forums, but there are several Obama supporters on there who are all for it. Even going so far as to throw the unpatriotic charge out there if people didn't want their children to do it, and telling them they were bad parents and their children were lazy. There was a funny story either there or on another forum that I read today that was talking about someone showing the plan on Obama's website to a co-worker who voted for Obama and starts college in January. The co-worker flipped out when he read what he would "have" to do if he wanted the $4,000. Can't believe Obama would do that to him, and is absolutely furious about it now. Umm, yeah. That's why you need to actually read and research before voting.

Required volunteerism is not volunteerism. It's compulsory service, period. The college part of it can be justified (although I still dislike it), because the student is getting something in exchange for their time.

Involuntary servitude, however, is what the Middle School and High School programs are based on the information we have so far. Involuntary servitude is unconstitutional by the way (13th Amendment, anyone?), unless it's punishment for a crime. I have no doubt if it was made a federal education requirement, we'd see lawsuits. Would be interesting to see if the courts ruled against it, or if they said "Well, they're minors, they're not protected by the 13th Amendment because students check most of their rights at the school door."

EXACTLY! I choke every time I read the title of that thread (not slamming the OP, seriously) because there is no such thing as mandatory volunteerism! Just putting those two words together should send up big huge red flashing warning signs! "Mandatory" and "voluntary" are mutually exclusive terms! You are right: what it actually is, is involuntary (or indentured, for the price of tuition, in the college scenario) servitude, but they can't use those words because then people might actually catch on to what he is trying to pull over on them! :sad2:

Actually we didn't. Thanks for your insight, though. It is interesting to hear. Would you support him?

I truly want Governor Palin to run again. But Governor Jindal is also very high on my list of conservatives to take back the Republican party and get it back to, above all else, fiscal responsibility and not out of control spending on, frankly, junk.

And I gotta admit, I'm heartened by the fact that you're speaking highly of him. From everything I know, he's a great man and a brilliant one to boot. :wizard:

She cant appoint herself according to Alaska law, but she can run in a special election

You seem to be quite interested in our conservatives. First Jindal...now Palin running for the Steven's seat. Having a little "buyer's remorse"?

Yup. He should have turned Sarah loose and let her do her pitbull with lipstick thing.
I can't see certain posts as I've ignored those who busted in on this thread. So I'm guessing from your post, debbie, that someone clicked and mentioned that we should all jump on the Jindal bandwagon.
If a liberal says, "Hey! Look at this Republican! I love this guy!" I tend to back away and take a good, hard, long look at that Repub. If the libs love you there's a reason. I consider it a ruse; they want us to focus on this one and ignore the person they're scared of.

That's why they flooded our primaries and voted for McCain to he'd get the nod. And you can't tell me they didn't; too many have admitted they have. They had their marching orders.

Normally I would agree with you, but unless I am totally unaware of some big scandal, Jindal is the real deal. He reminds me of Sarah in the fact that once he got in the Governor's office, he started cleaning house and kicking the hides of some of the corruption-oriented officials clear out of town. He also passed the toughest ethics laws of any state not long after taking office.

The biggest thing I've seen anyone throw at him so far is a few stupid sheeple saying (with no proof, naturally) that he converted from Hinduism to Catholicism just to pursue public office later. And some people have their noses bent out of joint because he once wrote a paper that talked about exorcism. To which I say: Big whoop. Tell it to someone who cares. :surfweb:
