The Conservative - Liberal Debate Thread

How is it that the liberals on this thread can ASSUME Bush says god talks to him, but a conservative can not say the same when they quote that Obama SAID he prays to Jesus every night? What's up with that? Hmmm?

What's Obama REALLY saying, "I ask Jesus for guidance, but he doesn't return my calls."? ;)

You say that as if the two of you the only ones who works that much. Do you honestly believe that to be the case?

why are you assuming something in my post that isn't there?

I'm simply saying everyone is free to work in this county and when times are tough, you have to work harder. I'm not going to sit around and wait for the government to do something to provide my family with security....I'll go out and do that myself.

there are plenty of people and families thriving in this country, my husband and I work hard to make sure we are one of them.

Everyone can site anecdotal examples of people struggling in this economy. My husband worked in the sub-prime mortgage industry for 5 years, so our financial situation since he was laid off a year ago this month has not been all sunshine and bunnies.

Here is what I find amusing and what I have noticed a lot.

If there is a conversation about the state of the USA and it's money issues, liberals know TONS of people who are just not making it and struggling everyday. When conservatives post that they and the people they know are doing well, we are liars or living in a fantasy world. Those people do not exist and it is only the people who the liberals "know" matter and are real.

If there is a conversation about UHC, the liberals talk all about it like it is the best thing ever. When conservatives pipe up about the fact that they know TONS of people who have UHC and hate it, we are liars. The waiting lists, and people dying from them do not exist and we are making these people up.

It seems that conservatives cannot win! Liberals can know lots of people when it suits their agenda but conservatives cannot know lots of people when it would go against what the libs believe is right.:confused3

If you can talk about people you know as a fact, then I should be able to as well.

I'm going to try to state this in the nicest way possible. You really come off so high and mighty in your posting sometimes. Such as the post where you said you and your husband work which tends to allude that others don't, which is simply not true.

I think you tend to be presumptious with your ideas and postings which tends to lend others towards sarcasm as a way to respond. I notice that you have tried to tone it down or come toward a middle ground but in case you wonder why some come off as being smart towards you this is the reason.

Honestly I read this post quoted and the one above and wanted to go big whoppty doo that you and your husband work and things are going great. I know lots and lots of people that work their asses off and still can't make ends meet. Hell, there are lots of deployed people that work 16-20 hours a day and their families still have a hard time.

I'm not trying to call you out or be ugly towards you, I simply want you to think about the wording of your posting because the way it is now you aren't going to get a good conversation or debate. Your' just going to get alot of sarcasm.

Glad you both were able to have gainful employment. Used to be a family could live on one 40 hour a week salary in this country. Shame it's no longer the case. My neighbor's son told me even the local McDonalds here has a waiting list. My cousin (in a large city) just got the axe recently and will loose his cobra coverage for his family soon. He's gone on countless fruitless interviews. They keep telling him they have more applicants than positions. With a coming recession to make things worse, seems to me the "stay the course" mentality we've had for 7 years is about due for a great big shakeup.

This is where we differ. You believe the Gov should take even more of our money to give to someone else.

I think we should cut taxes, reduce gov and spending so that a family can get by on a single 40hr/week job.

Remember the Gov takes nearly 50% of what you make - that's why you need 2 jobs.

Here's the President clearly stating with no ambuguity whatsoever that "God is on our side" at the end of his speech to the American people right after 9/11.

There's a world of difference between "may" and "shall". You might want to look it up. But if you do look it up, you'll have to retract this statement.

It's a shame then that not many middle class families qualify for free cheese. Affordable health care, an end to the war, more jobs that stay in America, fair world trade and affordable housing will be sufficient perks for them. Too bad Bush/McCain aren't able to supply it.

Is NAFTA "fair world trade"?

You're kidding, right??

I have no idea how you came to that conclusion based on her statement. Wait.... yes I do.

I repeat the question that you avoided. Do you believe that you and your husband (who, according to your post, is not presently employed) are the only ones who work seven days a week?

honestly? if you don't like it you are free not to respond or put me on ignore. My point was in relation to the suggestion that somehow government needs to intervene to enable the middle class....so if it makes me seem "high and mighty" to think that people need to work hard to provide for their families and we shouldn't be having wealth redistribution, then so be it.

the entire tone of this thread took a turn towards sarcastic when we started talking about my large smiley family.....

Bull.

I have particiated in alot of those threads. One person giving their side and their experience does not mean that the opposite cannot be true for others. This is a big world.

For the most part, those (liberals)who have encountered healthcare issues (don't get me started on trying to get my mother the care she needs and is entitled to by here insurance)do not deny that for many it works well. But when it is your health (and finances) at stake the 10s of thousands having huge issues is too much. But sure, I conceed, it works well for many. But I guarantee, when you have seen folks nearly die because of inusrance companies interfering, you might get passionate. The passion does not negate the fact that private insurance works very well for many.

Same thing with money. I know many who have been downsized and laid off and are overqualified for the lower level positions they seek. That does not diminish the fact that I know many who are doing quite well.

That is a pretty broad brush you paint with.

One perspective does not negate the other, and (gulp) I challange you to show me where conservatives have been called liars for their real life experiences.

I've noticed that too. ;) The fact is that I do not know anyone personally who is in a financial crisis right now. Fortunately, all of my friends and family are doing well. :confused3 I am not at all questioning others when they say that they are struggling. But when I posted that in "my part of the world" people are doing well, I was asked what planet I live on.

uhhh, no my husband was laid off a year ago and is presently employed and has been since 3 weeks after being laid off. I feel no need to answer your question because its not the point. I really do not care who does or does not work seven days a week, as I said if thats what you need to do to provide for your family thats what you do...not look to policies of wealth redistribution via the Federal government...

You're reading things into her posts that just aren't there it seems.

I'm confident she doesn't think both she and her husband working 7 days a week is their definition of "things going great". I think it is an example of their way to "keep things going".

Stop being hyperbolic. Nobody called anybody a liar.

However, about UHC, a while back the Canadians on the Dis started their own thread on their board because of all the untrue things being said about the health care system over on this board. About 99% were quite happy and would not trade it for what we have. I"ll take their first person opinions about UHC over the "friend of a friend" opinions posted by conservatives here.
