The cheese tray?

Did something bad happen to the beloved room service cheese tray? I ordered it, thinking I was in for something grand. It was nothing but Club crackers and swiss.

I tried again the next day. Club crackers, swiss, and some fancier looking moldy cheese.

The final day we did it again and it was just Club crackers and swiss again.

Did it used to be something fancier?

A couple years ago they had 4 types of cheese, a couple different crackers, & some grapes. It wasn't really fancy but it was a nice snack with our wine & cheese.

It is still like that, Lisa.

It has a small selection of four different cheeses, brie, blue cheese, cheddar, and something else with crackers which can range from saltines to nice water crackers depending on the day.

I think people have gotten an inflated idea from the boards on what it is suppsed to look like. I thought it was just what I thought it would be and it served it's purpose for us every day. It was a very nice snack after nap for the kids - perfect, in fact.

I too was expecting something great and it was just so-so. We were on the Wonder in April. It did have a few different cheeses, a couple different types of crackers and some wonderful, big grapes.

It was a great late night snack though. Actually, I'm quite missing room service!

We thought something happened to it too. Our Nov 2004 cruise it was great and we loved it. We ordered it again this time and it was hit or miss what you got and one time we got saltines. The amount you received wasn't the same or the type of cheeses. Sometimes it was great and sometimes it was so-so. It was still good though!

I ordered the cheese tray for 27 April Wonder cruise -- was disappointed -- yes a variety of cheeses, but not many crackers -- and a couple of grapes. For the money I was expecting a little more

although the champagne I ordered at the same time was very nice ...

OK, I thought that we were talking about the "All Hands On Deck Cheese Platter" from room service? Did you order a basket or something from DCL since you had to pay for it?

ah ... my bad ... I was thinking of the cheese tray I ordered from DCL to be in our stateroom with a bottle of champagne

sorry for the confusion

When we went a couple of years ago, they had smoked gouda, brie, blue and some cheddar, with different crackers and some fruit. It wasn't big, but it was good. I'm not liking what I'm hearing now ... :sad2:

We've ordered it several times on our previous three cruises...actually nearly every night. The quality certainly declined on our 4th cruise on the Wonder in Feb...in fact, one day, we only got bleu and swiss (both YUCK!!! in my book), ritz crackers and some grapes. In the past, they had the baby bell, lots of cheddar (my picks) and the swiss and bleu (DH's picks), grapes, plus a small cup of nuts. Those days were long gone compared to the less than lackluster platter we had in Feb.

There was so much hype about the cheese platter that we were disappointed the first time we ordered one.

Geeze, they use to at least include some grapes with the order. :( That and the Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich were my favorite room service items....very sad as I heard my beloved PNJ is gone now too. What is DCL room service coming too....

I didn't find the time to order room service on our last cruise in Feb other than a chocolate chip cookie (which I didn't like) of this year. I probably will next time though and I am learning from these boards not to get my hopes up as it doesn't sound to be anything like what I remembered. :confused3

Can I ask what the big deal is about the chocolate chip cookies?

They were good, but nothing special.

I remember having one in September, so after reading all the posts about how good they were, I made sure to have a few on our recent cruise a few weeks ago. Same as before, good-but nothing spectacular...
Certainly not good enough to try and smuggle into the US. :confused3

Sometimes things just taste better on a DCL vacation! You can give me a chocolate covered ice cream bar here in Colorado, and I'll think, "Mmm. Pretty good." You give me one shaped like Mickey on DCL and I think, "Ahhh, could it get any better?" So, perhaps, it is not the actual cookies that taste so good as much as it is where you are eating them that matters :goodvibes

I am a choc chip cookie snob.

I thought the choc chip cookies on The Wonder were "adequate" -- had one or two.

I was actually glad they were not *FANTASTIC* -- it was hard enough not gaining any weight ...

The best cookies can be found at the end of the galley tour. ;) They are warm & fresh out of the oven!

I ordered this last year on our cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it but no butter with the biscuits, will remember to ask for some next time as they were do dry otherwise.

True, Skallywag, our cheese and crackers custom doesn't include butter, but I'm sure they'd bring you some! :sunny:

I'm not liking what I'm reading about the decline of the cheese tray! :sad2: Hope they bring it up to snuff by August! I loved ordering that as a little snack for my family when we were dressing for shows, etc.

I've not yet ordered the cheese tray from room service, but this is the cheese tray that my friend had purchased to be in our room when we boarded for the westbound panama repo last year:

Sorry, I still haven't figured out how to get the actual picture to appear in the post rather than just the link.

We were disappointed in the cheese tray last week on the wonder as well. After reading the rave reviews on the board, I thought it was something special but it was bleu and swiss cheese, butter crackers and grapes. It was good but it definately wasnt a must have for us.
