Dizzy, if I wasnt going to FL the same time I would stay outside with Alec and we would tour together as latecomers!
Nope - that was good. I only had one response on the DL board and that was just to quote me the rules. We check in that day. We are staying in Morongo the night before - so I think it is an hour drive or so (assuming I can drag DH out of there kicking and screaming)
I will try that. The sad thing is he is so tiny I could probably easily get him in without a ticket - but the fact that he has an AP is going to mess it all up(at least his AP does not expire until the end of the trip - one less to buy
)

No problem, I figure if the CM won't let him in he can watch him for an hour and drop him off in Fantasyland![]()

Dizzy, if you check in that day can't you get a voucher from the hotel or at least go "check in" to the hotel and then they can give you something for Alec so he can get in too before. You would have to get there really early to do this but at least you wouldnt have to chance it.

Just leave him hanging out in the pavillion between DCA & DL for a bit. Then as the regular opening time nears, report a missing child.My guess is they will have already found him, fed him breakfast, given him a nice new DL pin to wear and no one will be the wiser!

It's very astute of you to call the deaf community a culture, because it very much is. They have their own language (sign), their own slang, and a very different way of viewing the world and their place in it than does the hearing world.OMG! Your story of the Pale People reminds me of when I went to Reno for a vacation with my mom, dad & brother right after I graduated from high school. I was 17 and my brother was 11, and since we couldn't gamble we went to the MGM Grand basement...which is filled with shops, bowling alley, movie theater, etc...We decided to go bowling but were informed that a tournament was taking place. However, the nice lady at the door said go ahead and go in, you can watch them, some of these people are really good. So in we went. We were sitting there thinking something seemed very strange, it was quiet, but noisy at the same time. After a few minutes it dawned on us...it was a deaf bowling tournament. Virtually everyone there was using sign language! You could hear the bowling balls and pins, but not a voice one, no music, etc...it was very strange indeed to be in that different culture.

I swear people did thisf for real at EPCOT.![]()

That is one thing I haven't quite got yet. I wanted to take night-time pics at DL, but the first time I tried (of the castle at night, beautiful!) they were super blurry. So I bought this cool tripod that is small and has these bendable legs that can wrap around lightpoles and such, very cool. OK for fireworks (if you don't ever need to move the camera!) or shots of the castle, but not terribly helpful for other nighttime shots.Alex, your camera sounds cool. My good friend has some sweet SLR cameras that she has paid a nice mortgage payment on and then she also has the Panasonic Lumix camera for point and shoot hold in the pocket things. So when my Sony camera broke I asked her if she liked her Panasonic. She said it takes some pictures better than her SLR. I can capture really great low light action shots (recital pictures in motion!) with this camera that my sony never did. I absolutely love it.

So you're saying I should carry TWO cameras...![]()

So you are saying I shouldn't do it???
Alec knows DL pretty good. I can just leave him lined up with his AP, and tell him to meet us by Matterhorn. He can do this.
How bad will I get flamed if I post a "will they let my 5 yo in without an adult" thread???

OMG!!! DO IT! I'll post that I let my 8 year old go for it so if your 5 year old is "mature" then why not.![]()

I worked with a woman whose HS aged son was deaf. The whole family had learned sign language, of course, and they were so excited when their son was accepted at Gallaudet, a college for the deaf on the east coast. But there was a huge uproar at Gallaudet at the time because they'd just hired a hearing (can't think of the right term for the head of the college... The top dog!) They felt that there was NO WAY someone hearing could understand the deaf culture enough to lead the university. I think the person wound up having to step down, it was that controversial.
There is huge debate also about the cochlear implants, and whether it's appropriate for a deaf person to WANT to hear, or hearing parents of deaf children to get the surgery for their child.
