Anybody get tickets for Hamilton in Chicago??

Not me but my friend in Chicago was very sneaky. They figured out how many people you needed to get group sale tickets and got that many individuals together. They were able to buy tickets way back in January even though single tickets only went on-sale yesterday. I'm not sure if it was through his work, comedy team, or just personal friends but I thought it was a genius way to ensure they had the pick of the crop.

I used to do this when Wicked came to town. The 2nd and 3rd tours through here were nearly impossible to get, so I had a group of 38 and a group of 32 for those tours. Worked great! I didn't think I wanted to try to deal with that many people to see a show in a different state though LOL.

Not sneaky at all!!! Pretty darn smart! Good for you!!!!

I am completely blind-sided by the news that Shuffle Along will close on July 24th!

Good grief... first American Psycho, then Bright Star and now Shuffle Along. All the things I wanted to see are closing. By the time we get there on August 25 there will be nothing left but crickets...

Man now I have to try and shoe horn Shuffle Along into my already busy schedule. My fiance alredy saw it but I didn't go with him.

Just crossed back over the Hudson River, after spending 2 wonderful days in NYC! My DD (theatre geek) wanted as part of her graduation present to go into NYC, spend the night and see shows. We saw 3 shows, Wicked, Fiddler & On Your Feet and loved all of them. She almost cried when we got to our room at the Marquis and the room overlooked Times Square - thanks to all of her father's Marriott points :-).

This was my 2nd time seeing Wicked and I love the new Elphaba (she's from the London show) but I wasn't impressed by Peter Scolari as the Wizard. The Fiddler revival was great! We both loved that the stage was bare and how the actors came up from the back of the stage. My DD played (& got nominated) Yente in her high school play a couple of years ago and too be honest I wasn't impressed with the actress that played her in this revival - she was a little deadpan, the rest of the cast were great.

Now, to my favorite, On you Feet, what a great show! I laughed, sang, cried and danced-yep, in my seat! It was a weird beginning because about 20 minutes into the show, the curtain comes down and an announcement of "technical difficulties". Josh, aka Emilio comes out and tell a jokes and says that they'll be starting shortly, then comes out again with another joke. Finally, it's announced that Ana's understudy will be continuing the show. She was absolutely fantastic! We had great seats 6 row middle orchestra. My daughter who was not to happy about seeing it said at the end of the show "Mom, you were right it was great!". Unfortunately, we couldn't stay around to get photos & autographs at the stage door since we had a train to catch but we'll be seeing it again with the rest of the family.

Next up we're seeing the revival of Cats in August - I CAN NOT wait!

To me Beatrice Arthur will always be the definitive Yente.

I have not seen this revival of Fiddler but I wasn't really impressed with the cast album.

Exactly how I feel :) I really wish they would give it a chance. I'm so upset that a couple of shows that I wanted to see have closed or closing (American Psycho, Shuffle Along). Now, I'm happy that I got to see Tuck.

An American in Paris is closing as well!

Even worse the lead producer blamed Audra McDonald's pregnancy. Such a crock. They could try and find someone to fill the role. If it is a good piece it will stand with out Audra.

How many of us watched the live stream of She Loves Me last night? I was a little worried about possible technical glitches in the beginning, but overall I think they did a marvelous job with the camera work. I had wanted to see this show, but didn't have the opportunity to go to see it live, so this was awesome.

On a different note, is it true that the Fourth of July weekend is generally a bad one for show attendance? I see that there are several shows offering $40 tickets. I was thinking of trying for a ticket at the box office for Shuffle Along on Sunday. I know Audra does not perform in the Saturday matinee, and who knows? She may take the holiday weekend off entirely. I'd still love to see the show, even without her.

They did find someone to replace her, and the tickets didn't sell worth squat. They saw the writing on the wall.

The show’s lead producer, Scott Rudin, said in a statement Thursday that ticket sales were to blame: “The need for Audra to take a prolonged and unexpected hiatus from the show has determined the unfortunate inevitability of our running at a loss for significantly longer than the show can responsibly absorb.” He declined to talk further on Friday, and other producers of the show did not respond to requests for comment; Ms. McDonald also declined to be interviewed.

I don't think it is right though to blame her pregnancy. Women in theater get enough crap as it is and a producer should be better than to throw leads under the bus. If they wanted to try and keep it open there are other actresses and perhaps the throw in a stunt casting in that role or another role. Ticket sales are of course the final draw but the producer could have left it at that he didn't have to mention Audra.
