The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

Saw Encores Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. It was amazing. So much incredible dancing. I could'nt believe how much choreography they had since the show only runs for 5 nights. If you get the chance to see it, go!
Whole cast was fantastic! Crowd loved it

It's probably because the show is only running for 5 nights that they can do so much choreography. In a long running show, to have so much intricate movement usually means more dancer injuries as their bodies just can't take the stress & stain of so much night after night.

Wasn't impressed, but will see it cause I love Les Miz.

I think it is great!

Remember, this is an adaptation for film. Movies are much more intimate than a huge auditorium, and I think Anne Hathaway's interpretation is very appropriate. She is portraying a sad, broken woman who has lost everything, and she doesn't need to belt "I Dreamed a Dream" to the rafters.

She was ok, but nothing to write home about. I understand her interpertation, but in my mind it could have been better. I still don't like the casting of the leads. As talented as Hugh Jackman is he looks too young for the part. I don't believe he can look 60. I just don't.

I agree it does look amazing. I didn't think that Anne Hathaway would sing that well. It all looks really good and emotional.

Anne Hathaway won a major award here in jersey when she was in high school. She was name the best leading actress in a musical for the Papermill Playhouse Rising Star award.

He's 43. Considering the 20 or so years the story takes place over, I don't see a problem with him pulling that off. I saw a few photos from the finale, they age him really well.

Last Valjean I saw on stage was in his 20s and he was surprisingly good. :thumbsup2

I'm not digging Russell Crowe as Javert. But, Javert basically sings 2 songs over & over, so I guess Russell can handle it. Although I think I'll be waiting for him to throw a phone at someone. :duck:

Cannot WAIT for Les Mis!! I still would have rather seen Lea Salonga as Fantine, but since they ditched T.Swift as Eponine, I'll just be happy with Anne Hathaway and not appear greedy or anything . ;)

We saw the touring company of Jersey Boys. Oh wow....we LOVED it!!! If there is anyone out there who hasn't seen it yet: GO!! It was so much fun! Of course my future theatre major girl had to stalk the stage door, so we have autographs and pictures. :goodvibes

He has such a baby face though! LOL Yeah they keep casting Valjean younger and younger. It is really bothering me. Valjean should be cast middle aged.

Russell Crowe has been hilarious on Twitter while he's been filming the movie. He keeps posting as Javert:

He's been doing that for weeks now. :rotfl:

Saw Newsies: The Musical last night. Absolutely loved it. As a fan of the movie, Ii was not disappointed by its translation to the stage. The musical numbers were fantastic and the choreography great. The tap number for King of New York that opened the second act was a real show stopper.

For any of you who are SYTYCD fans, I was surprised to see not one, but four alumni from the show; Jess LeProtto, Evan Kasprzak, Thayne Jasperson and Alex Wong. Nice to see them doing well.

Since President Obama was at a fundraiser across the street in the New Amsterdam Theatre, they kept us inside for a little while longer after the show ended. To entertain us, the cast came on stage to do a Q&A with the audience, which turned out to be a real treat. Some very good questions were asked form some of the younger audience members.

I love when he posts in character! He's actually pretty funny.

Have you read his "Sue's Side" tweets? :rotfl:

Not sure if it's been mentioned on this thread already, but Amy Adams will be doing Into the Woods for Shakespeare/Sondheim in the park this summer... looking forward to that!

Alfie Boe, who starred as Valjean in Les Miz - 25th Anniversary in Concert, is on NYC PBS right now - Channel 13, WNET. It is a concert show till 9:30.

He's coming to NYC Town Hall, W 44th(?) St, off 6 Ave on Oct 17th, Wed. It's a smallish, intimate venue. It has a balcony, but no real nosebleed seats. And the acoustics are pretty good there. :thumbsup2
