The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

Do you think an 11 year old boy would like it? I want to take my son in one day soon to see a show and I'm not sure what to take him to.

Yes, I think boys will love it. The cast is mostly "boys". Just google Newsies. There are lots of clips from the show.

Agreed! And you could check out the movie as well. A lot of the guys in the cast said it was the movie that got them into performing - and they liked it because it was a Disney musical with no princesses!

It really sounds like the perfect musical to introduce a kid to theater with.

You will love it! If you buy merch, you will get trading cards as well!

We got the whole set of trading cards! We bought a program, a t-shirt, and a poster, so they threw in the trading card set too. That was really cool. :thumbsup2

We loved the show! My sister and I were both big fans of the movie, and this was even better. The dancing was just outrageous.

Hoping it does well with the Tony nominations tomorrow.

So I saw Memphis this weekend and I'm kind of half and half with it. I feel like the music and production value were great but I hated the story. I like a happy ending or if things aren't going to workout there should be some sort of change for the better neither of these happened and I left just feeling sort of depressed which has never happened after seeing a musical unless I was just sad cause I wanted to see it again right away.

We saw Pricilla, Queen of the Desert over the weekend (ladie day out). It was OK. Nothing I'd rush back to see again. I'd not take kids to this one as it has mature language.

We're seeing Sister Act this weekend. Boy, 4 shows in 6 weeks! We're on a Brdwy binge!

Saw Sister Act in NY and really enjoyed it. Probably will go see it again. We saw Lion King this past weekend. My wife had been to see it before and really enjoyed it and wanted to go again. I didn't care for it so much, not one of my favorites.

Seeing the touring company of Beauty and the Beast tonight at our local theatre. Really looking forward to it!!

What does everyone think of the Tony nominations?

I'm very happy that Newsies got 8 nominations....but I'm pretty sure that Once is going to sweep. I haven't seen it but heard that it was pretty good!

Me too! That show deserves every nomination!! I hope they win best Musical!:thumbsup2 I wonder if they will extend again past August.

The Phantom of the Opera movie REDUBBED!!!

I was watching The Phantom of the Opera, movie last nite, on HBO, and about to reach for the Advil to stop the pain in my ears. :headache: I thought, Why can't someone redub the movie and put in Michael Crawford singing as the Phantom. Then it occurred to me, maybe someone already has!

I went to YouTube, and sure enough, it's there. It's brilliant. It's almost flawless. The redubber went to a lot of work to get it synced so well. :thumbsup2 And it's in HD.

Unfortunately, the guy was able to upload about 90% of the redubbed film, before YouTube started messing with him. Still, the part he's been able to upload is fantastic.

Here is the first part. To see the subsequent clips (10 min each,) when the clip is done click on the clip in the TOP LEFT of the screen. They will be in order that way.

The View, has the two stars from Evita on right now. They are going to do a scene from the show in a little bit.

We saw The Lion King in Orlando this past weekend and it was amazing. Really, really loved it!!

Has anybody seen Ghost?

I find it hard to make that into a play but who knows? Curious

I have yet to hear good things about it, other than the special effects being pretty impressive. But I heard the music is only so-so.

I have one of the songs on a free playlist I got from our local theater district, and it's terrible. I always skip past it when it comes up.

One month (to the day) until American Idiot in Seattle!!

I just uploaded to broadway soundtrack to my ipod.

I am soooo jazzed!

:cool1:

First off, please exuse any typos - I'm on my phone!

I just left NYC after a super quick two-day trip and saw three shows. Tuesday night I was just going to walk around and enter a few different ticket lotteries until I won one. My first stop was Wicked - and I won. I was SHOCKED
and didn't expect it in the least. It was my 7th time seeing the show and it was fantastic! The cast was top-notch and so full of energy and I remember why I fell in love with the show so many years ago!

Yesterday afternoon I entered the Newsies lottery for my friend and I but didn't win. We did win for Peter and the Starcatcher, though, which is nominated for Best New Play at the Tonys and it was such a delight! A truly wonderful afternoon. It serves as a pre-quel to Peter Pan and it's so interesting how it is pulled together, much like Wicked!

Last night I saw Evita - I know it hasn't gotten the greatest reviews but I LOVED it! I got to see a friend of mine play Eva, which was just incredible. She is the alternate and goes on twice a week and she did a wonderful job! The rest of the cast was very good and the ensemble was so together.

Overall it was two great days of theatre! Now I'm on the train home since I have to work tonight.

Sounds like you had a really great time. :cool1: It's great to see a friend in a show and for them to know someone out there is supporting and there to see them, when they know other people in the audience wish they were seeing the "real" star instead. I've done that for a couple if my friends who get cast as the alternate a lot.

Please tell me about the lotteries. How do you know which shows have lotteries and what time do you show up for them? Is there a list somewhere? Te only one I knew about was Wicked.

Playbill.com has a full list of all the shows that have lottery or rush - they update it frequently. Lottery and rush is how I was able to see MANY shows while in college! (I graduated from Hofstra last year and went into the city a lot and aside from a few shows (South Pacific, Hairspray before it closed, Gypsy with Patti LuPone and the first preview of Sister Act) I never paid more than $40 or so for a ticket! I paid $26.25 for my Wicked ticket the other day and $27 for my Peter and the Starcatcher ticket - was 2nd row for Wicked and 10th row for Starcatcher!) so lotteries and rush can be a steal!

THANK YOU!!! :flower3: I live within several blocks of any Broadway theatre. So it would be nothing for me to mosey over and see if I can win a lottery. I was sick for the last few years with a chronic illness and had absolutely NO energy. Now that I have my energy back, I want to get back out & DO things. Which is why I chose to live right in the middle of it all.

Congrats of Hofstra! :thumbsup2
