If I have 5 nights booked on points
but then book 2 nights cash on the Walt Disney World website or member rental or from DVC on cash

and they are the same resort and same room type

will I be allowed to keep my room, or will I maybe need to move?

If I need to move my room, I won't add on the extra 2 nights...

If they’re the exact same room type, I’d notify MS, and also Disney Resorts if a cash booking is involved. Give them all relevant confirmation numbers and ask for a “continuing stay” notation to be placed on them. The resort wants you to stay in the same room, too, to save housekeeping costs, and the continuing stay notation helps them know to do it. When you check in for the first segment, visit the front desk and ask whether they see that on your reservation. If it’s not there, that’s the best time for them to fix it.

If it is a cash reservation visit MS it can definitely be connected so you won’t have to move.

The others aren’t guaranteed but they do not want to have you move so just have it noted that it’s all traveling with and continuous and as noted, mention at check in.

We do multiple membership stays all the time and never have to move.

Management does not want to have to clean the room an extra time. Stop by the front desk—these requests are pretty much always granted. I personally have done this with back-to-back RCI exchanges. There might have been some wonkiness with a key but it was easy to work out.

There is no way to guarantee you won’t have to change rooms but if you tell them ahead of time as part of the room request for each res the odds are very, very good you won’t have to move. Increase your odds by confirming at the front desk BEFORE you go to your room that they have you staying in the same room for the next reservation. Frankly I’d go ahead and play the odds as I don’t recall anyone ever reporting back Disney made them move.

I’ve had a few mixed bookings at Disney and they have always kept me in the same room. I do have to get re-keyed on changeover day and you will have one folio for each stay so if you want to pay down charges with gift cards from stay 1 make sure to do that the last night of stay 1.

Ive done this before and I notified the hotel and they let me stay in the same room 😀

I've done this a few times and I've had mixed results. I call MS and ask for the reservations to be linked and most times this works. However, I've been twice when the front desk told me that it just wasn't possible. This happened when I was at SSR and OKW in studios. When you book with $$ it seems that you can't specify being either in preferred or near Hospitality House, which I always choose when booking with points.

I did this at the Riviera with no issue. Told the front desk at check-in. I had rented points so didn’t do it ahead of time.

So then your points booking category didn’t line up with your cash booked category?

Correct, at least at OKW, near HH is a guaranteed booking category for DVC reservations only. Cash reservations (unless booked through Member Services) are not usually permitted in Near HH. This was made clear when the Near HH booking category was created. It was added years after the resort opened. Prior to that there were no guaranteed categories, there really couldn't be, as the near HH buildings are mostly the first phase buildings of the resort., and back then there was no way to make them a specific category. OKW was built in phases over a few years. Notice the slight room design change in 1 and 2 bedroom units in buildings 30 and up, adding the door between the laundry room and master batrhroom. They also never went back and made there be a points difference between Near HH and the rest of the resort.

I think I'm definitely one of the unlucky ones when it comes to moving! We had two continuing reservations in a 1 bedroom at BCV, both booked with points on the same membership. When I spoke to the front desk about staying in the same room they said that it was impossible as the 1 bed we were in was a lock off which was needed for another booking. Unfortunately, they said there was nothing that could be done about it.

We were quite frustrated to have to pack everything just for a few hours, but we asked if they could move us to the other side of the building as there was renovation work going on throughout the night. When our new room allocation came through it was the same room that they'd just made us leave! It was definitely a waste of everyone's time.

If they were on the same membership, was there a reason you didn’t have them combined into one before the trip?

That had to be frustrating to move and even more to be back in the same room.
