~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

What a great day! I slept in until about 9 AM, got up and had breakfast and went out for a sweaty run. Not the 14 miles Lou ran. :worship:

Miles: 6.0
Time: 1:01:19
Pace: 10:13
Splits: 10:06, 10:22, 10:05, 9:48, 10:39 and 10:18

The foot felt fine throughout and my legs are starting to gain their memory back.

Cam, Rhonda, Michael and I are running the Race for the Taste 10K on October 11th.. As my friend from the Carolinas would say "Y'all Come!"

Enjoy your weekend!!!

Sara and Jodi - Good luck in your races. Have fun!

Lou - Sweet! on the 14 for nothing miles. Those are hard.

I participated in the neighborhood 5K with DD12 today. She decided she wanted it to be a leisurely stroll with a friend of hers so we finished in 46 minutes. They did agree to run a few times, once to distance us from an EXTREMELY annoying woman.:scared1:

The most excitement was that I had to change shirts 3 times because DD didn't want me to clash with the pink shirt she was wearing.:faint: I ended up in my lovely WISH shirt. I guess neon green goes fine with pink?:confused3 I understand there are pictures to be seen on Kathy's FB page if you haven't already taken a gander.

Yeah Sara!!!!:cool1::banana:

I was thinking about you all day today. I was away from the computer so I couldn't look you up until now! Congratulations on completing another 26.2!!:dance3:

 I'm pooped and have an EARLY flight in the a.m. so I'll post a race report once I'm back in the office on Tuesday:laughing: Great race, great running weather, all was good in San Diego today:thumbsup2 Thought of you guys often:grouphug:

Sara - Great race! Can't wait to hear all about it.

Jodi - Excellent for you too! Did you have fun?

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

I know you're all ea-GEAR to share your knowledge about your favorite clothing, training aids and technical toys, so this week's prompt posted here on the 'Ohana thread is:

Beyond the basics, what's your favorite/most-useful/most loved gear?

Of course, feel free to talk about your favorite shoes, socks, tech shirts or sports bras or other necessities. But I think we'd all like to know about that special something(s) that you've added to your "must have" for training, racing days, or just plain pleasure. For some of you, maybe it's your Garmin. Other, a special brand of sunscreen or a specific brand of water belt? Still others, a strategy for taping your legs and feet or a a favorite tracking website?

Please share your special finds with the rest of us. :thumbsup2

Howdy everyone: Just wanted to report that I ran 5 miles yesterday and today. My motivation's been kind of low lately. I need something before Baltimore to train for.

Yet another great day! I had a huge presentation to management today at work on a branding project we have been working on for almost 2 years. Everything went great and we roll the program out to staff starting this Wednesday.

After arriving home to a pasta meal lovingly prepared by Cam, I ate and went out for a run. The weather was cool, but my pace quickly heated things up. I tried the same distance (and course) I ran two days ago to try to beat my previous effort - I did (Old = 1:01:19 - New = 56:42)!

Here is what happened:

Miles: 6.0
Time: 56:42
Pace: 9:27
Splits: 9:47, 9:40, 9:10, 9:38, 9:09 and 9:18

Again, my foot felt fine throughout and my legs hung in there to carry me along.

Looking forward to the TR's/RR's from Jodi and Sara!

Race Report:thumbsup2

Preface:
As most of you know, karma's been having its way with me BIG TIME over the past two months so running has been the furthest thing from my mind and therefore I am embarrassed to say this is my first marathon I felt I was not remotely trained for. I have a whole lot of respect for both the distance and my fellow athletes who put in the time as the price for admission to the party so I felt funny even showing up acting like I had a right to attempt this marathon. Also, I have chronic sublaxation in my knees and my right knee went out TWICE before the race, once the night before and once the morning of while I was stretching, forcing me to further question my sanity surrounding this venture. On a good note, there was NO self-imposed pressure and I slept like a baby the night before and remained optimistic that marathoning is a mental sport and it was mainly my mental fortitude that was going to get me through this. The same mental fortitude I've been forced to muster in ways I'd never imagined prior to last month:rotfl2:.

Pre-race:
The running gods were with us and the weather was PERFECT for running. I thought of Cindy and Matt last year, looking like lobsters post-race, and was scared of my destiny for the day. Slathered on the sunscreen. However, the sun never came out, the temps were mid 60's with a pleasant breeze throughout. That made a huge difference in the comfort level and my ability to make it through this thing. It was a 6:30 start so I jumped on a 4:30 trolley to the airport to catch a bus to the start downtown in Balboa Park. Killing time, freezing my butt off, wishing I had brought throwaway clothes. Still no race plan, didn't know if I'd be walking, running, happy, mean, etc. so warned Mike that I was hoping to be smiling when I saw them at mile 7 but no guarantees:laughing:. I was wearing my Team 413 shirt so I HAD to be Christian and try to believe I was loving it;).

Race:
Well, we were off and I swear, nothing short of a miracle, the leg that is currently diagnosed as a peroneal compression neuropathy, and has caused me pain since 10/07 NEVER hurt or even twinged for the entire 26.2 miles. Was it the SHIRT causing God to show up for me and relieving the pain?! You can bet I will be sporting my Team 413 shirt for every race from here on out:hippie:. The only thing that plagued me most of the race and has always been an issue is what I believe to be piriformis syndrome on my left side due to biomechanical issues. I had to stretch my hip/butt out a bunch of times to keep going but other than that I was happy:confused3:worship: and it was almost surreal how the miles just kept coming at me. I was trying to keep it at about an 11:00 min/mi pace due to my lack of training and my bad habit of pacing too fast and burning out and I think I stayed pretty close to that. I was real careful about keeping up with the shot blocks and the cytomax on the course to keep from dehydrating which seemed to work well. Really, I have been plagued by this stupid leg issue for so long that I was never remotely expecting to run as well as I did and was sort of baffled by the entire experience. Pleasantly so, mind you, but it was ironic that this was my fastest marathon time since I have had the leg injury nearly two years ago and it's kind of sad it was with the first marathon I wasn't at all trained for. Like some of you:confused3 I don't remember much of a course when I am running as far as scenery goes so I can't comment. LOVED the otter pops the locals were giving out in the neighborhood sections:love:. I know my chip time was 5:09 and change and I can't take credit for that because it was merely due to a greater power than myself out there on the course with me. That and thinking of you all :grouphug: many times knowing you were there in spirit and wanting to do you proud:love:.

I am inspired for Baltimore and looking forward to training hard and hanging out with the BOTS in October:grouphug:. Karma's still kicking my a%# currently but I promise to post regularly because I am committed to a persistent running routine if only to maintain my sanity:hippie: It was so nice to be surrounded by runners again on Sunday at a time when the only thing I can say for certain about myself right now is I AM a runner and that is a huge comfort:cloud9: The rest of it is still to be determined popcorn::

Thanks for reading if you made it this far:thumbsup2 Work's probably going to be a nightmare this week so I may be sparse for a few:scared1:. Hope you're all doing well and I'll catch up as soon as I am able.

Thanks for the report Sara. Awesome job in the race! :thumbsup2 I am so impressed with your time. WTG! Good luck with getting caught up with work this week, and all that's going on with your life right now.

You know I'm always there for you, Sara....:rolleyes1 Although next time I'd prefer a t-shirt with my face on it, kay?;)
