~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Lou – Have you signed up for your first 5K yet?

Sara -

Dave – So, are you going on the 2010 Podcast Cruise?

Colleen – We’ve actually had some great (cool) early morning running weather here. Too bad I’ve only taken advantage of it a few days. That’s exciting that you booked a cruise. All this cruise talk and Dave’s pictures makes me really want to go on a cruise.

Jodi – How is Sparky doing? Do you have to bring him to one of those rescued pet shows (probably not the right term) this weekend? (That is how I got my cats!)

Howard – Any change in your foot in the day since you had the aircast off?

Chester – Saw some pics of you at the Muddy Buddy – it looked like you had a good time!

Mike – Hi, I guess.

Cindy Lou and Jen – Haven’t seen either of you post in awhile.

Looking back at the thread, I realize I never did a race report from my half a week and a half ago. So, if anyone cares - Not much to say other than it was NOT a pleasant experience. I don’t have my splits with me, but they range from about 8:40 for the first couple downhill miles (which is what I would expect) to close to (or maybe ever over) 11 minute miles at the very end. I slowed WAY down. I just had absolutely no energy towards the end. I think the heat really got to me in the beginning and then the last 2.5 miles were run into a strong headwind. I also think that trying to race a half 2 weekends in a row was a poor decision. Oh well.

Been kind of lazy lately. I've been getting some runs in, but not as many miles as I would like.

Howard – Any change in your foot in the day since you had the aircast off?

Hello to all of my BOT Friends in BOTville! :goodvibes

Cindy~ Hi! I've been doing normal activity since I (happily) took the aircast off. Yesterday I mowed the lawn and felt some discomfort on the sidehill angles with my left foot. This morning my foot was a little uncomfortable, but not much. I am feeling pangs of plantar faciitus more than stress fracture pain. That is something I will need to treat as I move forward. The aircast aggrivated the plantar faciitus due to the angle of the cast, my stride, etc. I have a feeling that if I were to start running today, I'd be more in trouble with the PF than the fracture. I won't be doing that though.

I am in a golf tournament today (riding in a cart) and on Sunday I'll be briskly walking a 5 miler in New Jersey (www.springlake5.org). It is a pretty competitive 5 miler typically with close to 7,000 people participating. I'll make sure I walk it gingerly to make everyone here happy. However, if it is me and Grandma Moses at the end neck and neck, I'll do whatever it takes not to be DLF.

Matt~ :worship: I'm not worthy.

Enjoy your day everyone!

:grouphug:

Howard

Howard - I'm sorry to hear that the PF is a problem again - just doesn't seem fair.

I did run this morning - only 4 miles, but at least it was something. It was perfect weather - 47 degress and low humidity. I need to enjoy these days because I know they won't last long!

Hey Everyone: I just wanted to stop in and say Hi. Seems like things have been busy since I got back from my cruise. I do want to update everyone on how it went. It was fantastic. I've been driving back and forth to a conference all week in Oswego, NY (about 70 miles from my house). So that's been sucking up a lot of my time. However, I did run everyday this week so far, and I'm going to do some x-training tonight.

Have a great day everyone!

Howdy Bots. I just wanted to say a quick hello-- I seem to have caught the theme park crud while at Disney and have been a bit sick all week  We got back from WDW last Sat and had a really nice trip-- for any DVC members I highly recommend Kidani Village, it was awesome :cool1: They even have a nice fitness center with the cheesy name "Survival of the Fittest" I managed three runs on vacation which wasn't too bad.

Howard: Great to hear the cast is off. Hopefully once you get moving again the PF will sort itself out. Good luck this weekend-- don't over do it

Dave: I'm glad you had a good time on the cruise-- the podcast from the cruise sounded like fun so I can only imagine how awesome the rest of it was. Your Muddy Buddy blog was also fun to read. I may try to phone in a resort review of Kidani Village and see if I can get it played-- just have to wait until I have my voice back from this nasty cold...

Sara: just a little more  and wishes for you that things get better

Matt: I'm tired just reading about the miles you are putting in :worship:

Chester - OK spill it...how hard did you laugh on the inside when you saw Howard's aircast :lmao:? Hey, are you doing Expedition Everest this year? Have you done Tower of Terror? Just trying to see if doing one of these is feasible for me this year. RU not coming to Baltimore??????

Jodi
No Baltimore for me. I'll be running the Race for the Taste 10k instead.

Chester - How 'bout coming up to CT for lunch next week?:rolleyes1

Jodi
That may be possible - once I'm laid-off here. We already have been told that all salaries are being cut 15% starting June 1st. Can I have some gas money for the drive? Maybe I can stop in Jersey and do some drafting for Lou on the way up to earn some cash.

Chester – Saw some pics of you at the Muddy Buddy – it looked like you had a good time!

Cindy
I had a great time at Muddy Buddy. This was the 4th time I got to run/ride it with my son. Last weekend I coerced Miranda to do a local Muddy Buddy type race called the Dirty Duo. This one didn't have strict places where the bike got exchanged, so I ran about 6.25 miles and rode .25.

Mike, Kathy, Sara, Colleen, Jen, Butch, Matt, Howard and Dave
I do think of you all often and hope all is going well for you and your families.

Run happy,

Chester

Howard - So sorry to hear about your recurrent foot issue:hug: Hopefully the golf tourney today goes well for you:goodvibes.

Cindy & Matt - Have a great time in NY this weekend:banana:

Matt - You're WAY too ambitious:laughing:

Dave - Glad your cruise was a blast and that you've been consistent with the running:yay:

Jodi - Thanks:love: I also hope Sparky is loving your TLC:cloud9:.

Chester - Terribly sorry about the deteriorating job conditions:hug: and that you're blowing us off for Baltimore:laughing::rolleyes1

Jen - Thanks  Your WDW trip sounds grand and I hope you kick the bug that followed you home:wizard:

Lou - Hoping you're well:thumbsup2

Colleen and Mike popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

Off to San Diego in the morning and I most likely will be unplugged for most of that time:confused3. I WILL finish RNR one way or the other, if simply because Jodi would never let me live it down if I didn't . Lack of training seems to be the least of my concerns and the deep depression diet has me in no shape to run or walk 26.2 so I am hoping to muster up an appetite in Disneyland next week to stop me from losing anymore weight:eek: Worst case scenario, I'll catch you all on the 2nd:grouphug:

Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!! God Bless Our Troops:worship::worship::worship:

Off to San Diego in the morning and I most likely will be unplugged for most of that time:confused3. I WILL finish RNR one way or the other.

Sara, have a wonderful time in SD!!! :dance3: Enjoy the marathon and the concert!!

Chester, loved your muddy buddy pics!! They were great!

Jen, sorry you caught the crud! But you were at DIsney, too cool.

Matt, holy miles Batman!

Howard, are you water running?

Jodi, DD is doing better, thanks for asking. SHe is now on a steroidal nasal spray to help reduce the sinus inflammation. I hope this works.

Do you still have Sparky??

Mike, we STILL miss you!

Off to yoga in an hour! I love :love:Saturday morning yoga. She burns incense at the end during our 10 minutes of relaxation, too cool.:thumbsup2

I just registered for the Distance Run! I hope to see everyone there.

Mike, we STILL miss you!

Speak for yourself!:snooty:

Mike - Hey hey hey...where you been man?

Colleen - Yoga & incense?:hippie:Nice! Any walking? because I KNOW you signed up for Baltimore. Yep, the Sparkster's still with us...I have to ride my bike & drag him along to tire him out.:rotfl:

Chester - Loved the MB pix! Sorry your job decided that you make too much :confused3. Do you think $10 will cover the gas for your trip up here? Are you really not coming to Baltimore? :sad2::sad1: Well that sucks...you're kind of ruining they whole vibe, dude!

Jen - If you have to catch the lurgy, I suppose WDW is the best place to do it, right? You comin' to Baltimore, right?

Sara - I suppose you're in SD right now :thumbsup2, have a blast! And you're right, I'll bust 'em hard on you if you don't do that race (but not for too long, so you haver my permission to blow it off if you want).

Dave - What up, brotha? You're all signed up for Balt. right? Come down from that cruise-high yet?:woohoo:Running at all?

Mindy - As you shall now be known! (because I'm too lazy to address you both). Stop running so freakin' much, you're giving me a complex! How was the movie in the park last night? "The Donger need FOOD!"

Lou - Hey man, any LRs this weekend? Is there a race coming up for you soon?

Howard - How does the fresh air feel on your naked foot? How's Cam doin'? Did you beat up that volunteer from last week? How's the foot feel?

I didn't run the last 2 days...got this weirdness on the ball of my left foot, but it's better now. Think I'll go a few tomorrow...you know, tapering for that 1/2 next weekend.:rolleyes1;)

BTW, I think FB is ruining this thread!popcorn:::surfweb:

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday AND Tuesday Mixer :stitch:

Stop on by the 'Ohana team thread, where the mixer starts here!

I know this weekend is a vacation weekend for many of us, so we'll be running the mixer tomorrow (Monday) and Tuesday. This mixer question is a ringer, folks, but hopefully still fun:

What did you do for Memorial Day/Weekend?

Provide us with plenty of details & hopefully photos of your activities, gatherings, celebrations and how you observe the day (and spirit) of Memorial Day. :thumbsup2

P.S. To the Bots. DOOD and I signed up for Baltimore (Full and 1/2, respectively). Be afraid, be very afraid. I'm stalking (slowly) Bots. Or I will be, anyway, after this weekend and then next week's trip to Stratford. :goodvibes

Howard - How does the fresh air feel on your naked foot? How's Cam doin'? Did you beat up that volunteer from last week? How's the foot feel?

Well... to answer some questions:

1. No, I am not water running. If I went outside right now (in a downpour), I might be. ;)

2. Naked is good! :thumbsup2 ;) :lmao:

3. If I knew who that volunteer was, I'd give him/her a piece of my mind (and right foot).:rolleyes:

4. The foot is not 100% just yet, but it is doing better. I golfed on Thursday without much a-do. No major foot pain or discomfort on Friday. I actually golfed pretty well considering it was my first time out this year (go figure). Our group shot a combined 7 over. Not a winner, but we had a good time! :thumbsup2

5. I ran/walked the Spring Lake 5 yesterday with 9,499 other close friends in Spring Lake, New Jersey. I ran/walked the 5 miles in 58:14. My splits were: 14:09, 11:59, 10:21, 10:35 and 10:18. I walked the first mile plus, then pushed it up to a shuffle (low impact) jog. When I saw "Larry the Lighthouse" (a man with a wooden lighthouse structure from waist up over his head) running ahead of me, I just had to beat him.

6. I have no lasting foot issues following the run/walk yesterday. It is just a bit uncomfortable from the events of the day today. That means that in a weeks time, I can slowly begin to run again. I will go to the gym this week to start cross-training though.:cool1::cheer2:

I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day tomorrow!

:grouphug:

Howard

Howard: I love the image of "Larry the Lighthouse" :lmao: I'm glad your foot is no worse for wear after the 5 miles but I have to say those 10 min miles are mighty fast walkin'

Jodi: We are still trying to work out our fall schedule, I want to come to Baltimore but I also would love a quick weekend at WDW for RftT (if only were were local to Disney like Chester ;) ) Now with my Ohana captain joing the Bot crew it is even harder to turn down the race... decisions, decisions...

I'm finally feeling a bit better. I actually stayed up past 9pm tonight which is a good sign in my recovery, we went tot he beach yesterday and rode some boardwalk rides with the kids, good unofficial start of summer stuff popcorn::

I managed 6 miles today but fairly slow, even for me :rolleyes1 I'm starting to plan out my training schedule for the DL 1/2 and Goofy so I need to finalize the fall races soon. note to self, do not use Matt's schedule :scared1:

I'm starting to plan out my training schedule for the DL 1/2 and Goofy so I need to finalize the fall races soon. note to self, do not use Matt's schedule :scared1:

:rotfl::lmao:I know, that schedule is heinous.

Deb,:banana:yeah for signing up for Baltimore.

Howard, yeah for beating Larry!! Reminds me when I was running Philadelphia, I came upon the juggling marathoner, I thought the same, I can't let this guy beat me!:lmao:

Sara must be in SD now! Enjoy the trip.

Dodi, what's up for this weekend, Martha's Vineyard??popcorn::

Dave, did you recover from all that commuting last week?

Spring cleaning for me this weekend. Yuck!

Mike.:sad1:

Cindy - No big deal on the 1/2. I know sometimes you just know you have it and other times your legs feel like lead. Wind and weather seem to effect how you do more than anything. What’s up next for you and Matt?

Howard - We should play golf sometime. I haven't played regularly in years but could go for playing a few rounds over the summer. Maybe we could find a course over the bridge in NJ that's between us. Beckett in Swedesboro was my old course in college.

Dave - Must be rough getting back to reality.

Jen - Sorry to hear you got sick on vaca but sounds like you had a nice time at Kidani Village.

Chester - That sucks about the salary cut but I guess it's better than being laid off. I actually have a team of engineers/drafters working for me in Bangalore, India. Tell your boss you can save them 25-40% off their drafting costs, outsource the work to Rodriguez, we'll split the profits, and you can sit back and relax all summer. It's a whole lot cheaper and more efficient to get things done overseas. I actually have an Indian architect that works with me in NJ and she handles everything for me in India.

Sara - Enjoy the trip to SD and DL!

Colleen - Hope you enjoyed the yoga and spring cleaning. I imagine the swim meets will be in full swing soon.

Megan - I'll see you at the PDR. We'll have to plan a DIS meet at the Expo.

Jodi - Sorry about the "weirdness" in the feet. Enjoy the 1/2 taper. What's your goal time for the 1/2?

Hey Mike (missed you on FB), CindyLou, and anyone I missed.

Busy weekend for me. Went to a wedding with the family for an OLD childhood friend on Saturday in PA. Interesting wedding...there was a Brett Michaels and Elvis impersonator in the house (seriously). Hung out with friends on Saturday evening and spent the night in PA. Decided to go for a "memory lane" LR through my old neighborhood in PA on Sunday. Ran 11+ miles through streets, schools, ball parks, and other places in my old stomping ground...very cool. I am real sore today. I forgot PA had hills.

Went to my sister's house in Baltimore yesterday. We (my dad, BiL's, Louie, and my nephews ) actually played baseball yesterday. We went to a nearby ball field to hit some baseballs around. Actually felt good to catch baseballs for the first time in 20+ years. I'm thinking I may have to find an over-40 baseball league next year. Part of me wants to play one more time before I am too old. Another part wonders what would happen if my old body got beaned by a fastball.

Hanging out at SiL's pool today. Happy Memorial Day Bots!

Lou

Happy Memorial Day everyone: It's been a while, and I wanted to check in with my friends. I apologize for not being on for a while. It has been busy getting back into the swing of work after the cruise, and then I had my meeting last week that required lots of driving.

I was able to run last week. I wasn't putting in big mileage, but I was trying to get all my runs in. I was able to run 5 days last week. So I was happy with that. I felt really sluggish after the cruise. Must be because of the extra weight I'm packing. My longest run last week was a little over 5 miles on Saturday. Sunday was my normal rest day, and I did the same route today. So I'm hoping I can get a good week of training in.

When I was going to my meeting in Oswego, NY last week I passed an interesting park on Lake Ontario. So the family and I went there for a picnic for the holiday today. We had a gorgeous day, and it was great to hang out with the family.

The park was called Chimney Bluffs State Park, and is right on the lake.

The lake has eroded away the shoreline to make these really interesting "spires". It's a cool landscape, that I didn't even know existed.

OK, that's it for me. I hope everyone had a great long weekend, and I'll try to be better keeping in touch.

Hey Guys,

Still around. Just been too busy chatting over on runnersworld.com forums. Wow, they are soo cool there!

Hey everyone! I didn't have a very productive exercise weekend. I ended up working on Saturday and I went to a wedding on Sunday. Today I spent relaxing and trying to get frames for stuff including my D23 gift.

Lou, We should definitely have a DIS meet for the PDR.

Megan - I just noticed in your signature that you're going on the second podcast cruise. Have you signed up? We had SUCH a good time on the first one. We reserved on board for the second one.

Hello Bots!

Not much running to report since last time I posted, although there is lots of eating to report. Instead of giving you the full play-by-play of Cindy and my trip to New York, I'll just tell you what kind of food we ate:

On Saturday we went to a German restaurant called Heidelberg that I'd seen on "No Reservations" on the Travel channel. The food was amazing. We ordered the sausage platter for 4 (there were actually four of us, Cindy and I didn't eat a 4 person meal ourselves) and it came with tons of different sausages, red cabbage, sauerkraut, potato salad, pig's knuckle (very good actually), potato pancakes, applesauce and pork chops. I used a 2 liter boot of beer to wash all this down (yes the beer is served in a very large glass in the shape of a boot). Cindy was perhaps wiser than I was and only drank a 1 liter boot of beer.

On Sunday we snacked all day long. We went to one place called S'mac that only serves Mac and Cheese. We also had pretty damn good gelato and Belgian french fries (pomme frites) with curry dipping sauce at two other places. We stopped by a third place that served only PB&J sandwiches, but they were closed :-(

On Monday we had breakfast at Jamba Juice. Cindy loves Jamba Juice. There used to be one right near our house, but it closed and now there aren't any Jamba Juices in all of Virginia, DC or Maryland. We had lunch at Katz's deli. The reuben and pastramis sandwiches were incredible and amazingly large.

After all this I slept in this morning and didn't run, but unless I want to buy all new pants, I'm going to have to start putting in the miles again to burn off all of the NY city food.
