~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Good morning all. We just got back from a few days in DC, The weather cooperated really nicely, but unfortunately DD5 got sick-- nothing like puking in the natural history museum to make a trip more fun  We are back home now and having a low key day in the rain.

Dave: thanks for the DL info-- we are on the list to be notified if the poscast gets some rooms

Lou: good luck in your upcoming race

Hey Everyone: Whew, I had a tough 14 miler this morning. I felt good the first 7 miles, but the last 7 miles coming home was a struggle. I ended up finishing in 2:24 for a 10:17 mpm pace. I don't think I ate enough last night, and it was pretty windy out there too. Oh well, I'm not going to think too much about it. I got my miles in.

Jodi- I don't have any real aspirations for the Pittsburgh Half. I'd like to finish under 2 hours, but that's it. I haven't done a ton of training for it, and I'm looking at it as the race to kick off my running season. What do you have on your calendar now that the CT race is done?

Hi Colleen :wave2: notice I'm saying hi. Colleen's my friend... :yay:

Jen, this has been such a bad flu season this year (as I'm sure you know). Our pediatrician was even out sick with the bug. Hope you guys had a good time in DC anyhow. Are you signed up for DL? I'm looking forward to it. I had a great time in California last week. Give my best to Butch.

Lou- Yeah, bag the LR today and look at it as a mini-taper for the Penn Distance Classic. How long is that anyway? Is that a half?

Hi to everyone else out there.

Lou- Yeah, bag the LR today and look at it as a mini-taper for the Penn Distance Classic. How long is that anyway? Is that a half?
It's a 20K, basically 12 miles and some change. The race starts outside of Penn's Franklin field and heads to the Art Museum, along the river for about 4 miles and back to Penn. The cool part is that you get to run a lap around the track inside the stadium. Kind of neat considering athletes like Carl Lewis ran on that track.

HAPPY EASTER!!!

Lou

:stitch: 'OHANA MONDAY MIXER :stitch:

The mixer starts HERE on the thread.

A spring chick told me that many of us gave up goodies for Lent. Now that Lent has ended, Monday is a good time for this mixer question:

What is one healthy food you always have in your kitchen? What is one less-than-healthy food you always have in your kitchen?

Feel free to post pictures, talk about how the foods help you in your training (either as nutrition or reward), and confess to guilty pleasures and happy indulgences!

http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news_update/20090413_Phils_announcer_Harry_Kalas_rushed_to_the_hospital.html

I've been watching Phillies games since I could crawl so it's a tough day when you find out the voice you have listened to every Sunday for 40 years has passed on. Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn were more then baseball announcers, they were like family members. It was rough when Richie Ashburn passed away in 1997 right before a Mets game, even rougher to lose Harry Kalas at that start of this season. However, it's strange how things work out. He gets to see the Phils win last October and was there to throw out the first pitch of the 2009 season. I'll surely miss Harry the K but I imagine that he and Richie Ashburn are back together calling a game somewhere. :sad1:

Hey Lou- When I heard of Harry Kalas passing, I thought of you. It must be a tough day for all of the Phillies fans. My heart goes out to you.

Hi Jodi :clown: (Pennywise will make them sleep...)

Hi everyone! I just wanted to post a note to say hello. I checked in yesterday but didn't have much to share. We went out to Pittsburgh (New Kensington, PA) for the long Easter weekend and made it home safely last night.

I am due to call my podiatrist tomorrow. I will tell him that my foot is not back to 100%, but I think I can begin to walk (I said walk) on it for now. I have been walking on it for two weeks with minimal pain and discomfort. I can definitely feel it the day after a workout, etc. I am sure he'l second his comments about taking it easy, walking before running, etc. I'll post an update soon.

While in Pittsburgh, we met and visited with Debra! It was an awesome visit! She is a great person and we had such a nice time! :thumbsup2 She went out for a run sometime later in the day Saturday after we met for brunch.

Lou~ Sorry to hear about Harry K. I've lived in the So. Jersey/Delaware area since 1984. I know how you feel. It is reminiscent of losing Bob Prince, the voice of the Pittsburgh Pirates for many, many years.

Hello to all of my other friends! Sara, Dave, Colleen, Jen, Butch, Jodi, Bruce, Mike, Kathy, Cindy, Matt, and Chester, etc.

:grouphug:

Howard

Hey Everyone,

Wow, it seems like forever since I've checked in. We went up to Ohio to spend a few days with my parents.

Lou - Sorry to hear about Harry Kalas.

Howard - Too cool that you got together with DKP. We drove through the Pittsburgh area coming and going on the PA Turnpike. If we knew there was going to be a party...

Cam - My mom made lasagna for dinner one night and DD12 reminded me that the last time she had lasagna it was at "Ms. Cam's". Don't tell my mom but I think she liked yours better.

Howdy to everyone else, guys and gals alike.

Lou - That's terrible about Harry K. :sad1:

Mike - Hey dude! Glad you had a nice family Easter! Aren't you running a marathon soon? Is Kathy running the half?

Howard - Here's hoping for good news today @ the Podiatrist!:thumbsup2 Sounds like you & Cam had a wonderful Easter!

Dave - YIKES! That's "It"! I need to read that book again! I just finished reading "Insomnia"...what's your favorite SK book? Ever read any Robert R. McCammon?

As for running....yeah, I've been doing a little here & there. 3 speed in the rain on Sat. nada Sun  & 5 yesterday. Some more speed crap today...apparently it works!:confused3

Hi to all my other BOTS! BTW, can we get a list of "who is & who isn't" signed up for Baltimore?? This way I know who to badger!:rolleyes1

Good Morning Everyone: I did 3.75 miles yesterday (3 loops around my neighborhood) in ~29 min for a 7.45 mpm pace. That was my tempo run for the week. It felt good.

Jodi- When I was in college Stephen King was all I read. "It" is definitely my all time favorite SK book followed closely by "The Stand". I've read "It" at least 3x (and maybe 4). I love the long, slow novels where you really get to know the characters, and every now and then I have to go back and read "It" to become reaquainted with old friends.

Lou- Thinking of you with all the Harry Kalas news. I didn't realize he was also the voice of NFL Films. I remember his voice with all the NFL highlights.

Howard- Welcome back. Glad you had a good weekend in New Ken. Good luck with the podiatrist. Let us know how it goes.

Mike- Glad to see you back too. It was lonely around here last week.

Hello to everyone else. Hope you all are doing well.

Hey Bots!

Howard: Nice to see you and Cam were able to hang out with my Ohana teammate while on your trip. Debra is a pretty cool person. I hope your foot continues to improve.

I had to comment on the SK books. I recently read the Gunslinger/ Dark Tower series by King-- really interesting books. I'm not too sure I like the ending, but I did enjoy the journey.

Still undecided about Baltimore-- fall schedule is just too up in the air right now...

Jodi - I'm registered for the Baltimore 1/2:banana:

Just back from Charlotte and I promise to post in the a.m. Trying to catch up on business e-mails and unpack :headache:

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter/Passover and I'll be back:thumbsup2

As for running....yeah, I've been doing a little here & there. 3 speed in the rain on Sat. ...
Speedwork AND running in the rain?!? Who are you and what have you done with Dodo??

So now that you've broken the magical 2:00 barrier, what's next. Have you picked a race?

And yes, Kathy is doing the half at CMM on April 25.

Dave - Nice pace on the tempo run.

Sara - Welcome home.

Let's see. What have I been up to? 8 miles on Sunday, 6.4 + 2 (with DD's) yesterday and 30 minutes on the bike this morning.

I was scheduled for a 20 miler last weekend but I never made that happen and it doesn't look like I'll have time over the next day or two either. That's about as close to the race as I would want to get so I guess I'll be going into CMM with the longest LR of 16 miles. I'll try to get 12 or 14 in this weekend.

That's the benefit of running a few races sort of close together (at least in my deluded mind). No biggy if you don't get all the big runs in. Just maintain and run the second (or second and third;)) for fun.

Poping in to say hi :wave2:

Still alive, just working crazy long hours (as in: go home, go straight to bed).

I have managed to run (4 miles) the past 2 mornings however :cool1:

I did not get a chance to run at all this past weekend.:sad2:

Ok, back to work.

Hi all! I spoke with the podiatrist today and he recommended that i have an MRI to figure out what is going on inside my foot.

The foot issue isn't from the plantar faciitus, at least I think I am beyond that for the time being. That was an over use issue, I am far from that today.

The issue is a possible stress fracture. I am waking up with pain/discomfort and have actually found myself favoring it/limping from time to time.

I have been taking it easy and have only gone to the gym a few times for low/no impact exercises - biking and elliptical cross trainers. No running for quite a few weeks (too many actually).

So, I'll enjoy learning what this is that didn't show up in x-rays about a month ago. Thanks for your concern! I'll post an update as soon as I have one.

In the mean time, NO I am not signed up for Baltimore! :rolleyes1 I am signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon, I will sign up for the Ridgefield Half and I am in the NYC Marathon lottery. That is pretty ambitious for a guy with a bum foot. :sad2:

I hope to have this issue many, many miles behind me by October. In the mean time, I have the Delaware Half coming up on May 17. I hope I am in a position to participate (at any level).

Have an awesome evening!

Good morning to the BotBrigade!:yay:

Howard - ARGH! This thing with your foot is driving ME nuts, so I can't imagine what you're going through. Get that dang MRI & let's see what's doing with that thing! Glad you're keeping a positive attitude, though :cutie:.

Dave - I'm going to send you a book by Robert McCammon called "Swan Song"...similar to "The Stand", but I think it's actually better ! Nice pace on that tempo, dude!:thumbsup2 Muddy Buddy's rapidly approaching!:yay:

Cindy - Glad you're alive, and all.

Mike - What's with you & doing long runs? Don't you know that they are completely unnecessary at this point? You're not delusional, those runs you have been doing are plenty! Take it from me. Heck, I'd only do 10, sorta quick, miles this weekend, then have fun on the 25th!
As for me, I'd like to find a local marathon in the next month or so....test out my "less is more" training theory :rolleyes1. Tell Kathy I said "have fun" with that half!

Colleen - Is your sister still hanging around?? Was it a nice visit??

Lou - All ready for Sunday's run?

Sara - Glad you're signed up for Baltimore! Welcome back from N.C. How's the pup?

Chester - ?????:sad1: We miss you....

Jen - As for SK, I was never a big fan of the "Gunslinger" series, in fact, I couldn't get past the first book...:confused3

SW has released it's airfare thru Oct. so I can go ahead & book my Baltimore flight....arriving Fri. a.m. & leaving Sat. afternoon :rolleyes1. About what time do you guys thing I should schedule that one for?popcorn:: Is anyone going to stay around afterward for a drink(s)?

Also, in racing news, the NYC Half Marathon went & changed their freakin' race date!! :headache: What the effff??? You can't just do crap like that! Even though registration hadn't opened yet, people that committed to run for charities could have already made flight arrangements, etc. I don't see Nike's name anywhere associated with this race now, so perhaps they dropped the sponsorship & NYRR is going it alone this year. Also, it's no longer a lottery...registration opens May 1 & it's first come first serve!:scared1::sad2: That should be interesting.... This is a great race, so I hope some of you BOTS sign up!!

Chester - ?????:sad1: We miss you....

Jodi
I miss you and everyBOTTY else too:love:. I'm really busy trying to juggle work, refinancing the house, training for CMM and Muddy Buddy and helping Miranda enjoy the last few weeks of her Senior year. At least I got my Income Tax extension filed on time. I have been keeping up by reading the posts, I just haven't responded.

I do look forward to seeing Mike, Kathy and other W.I.S.H.er's in Nashville for CMM and Dave at the Muddy Buddy. I also hope I have a chance to meet up with Howard in May if he is still coming down to St. Pete Beach.

Happy trails to all,

Chester

Apologizing profusely for not getting back here :flower3: Very glad to have a job yet this week has been he#* to the point I know my CFO is seriously scared to come anywhere near me:eek::scared1: At least it's looking like my needing a good, long run after work tonight to avoid having to hurt someone:laughing: I'll post when I can see straight again:hippie: I tried my LR last weekend the day after giving blood which didn't go so well:confused3

Jodi - Southwest opened up their Oct schedule so I booked BWI flights. In on Friday around 11:00 or so and out on Sunday around the same time:thumbsup2 At the present moment I will be solo for that race:rolleyes1popcorn::
