The Black Eyed Peas just can't sing.

I'm thinking the camera operators were mistakenly told there were only 2 members of BEP. I only saw the two other members ONCE each the entire show on camera.

WTH was up with that? :confused3

Go watch their concert from The Isle of Mann, which was a "real" concert... they sounded just as bad there, if not worse.

BEP is the very definition of a studio band, IMO.

I think that statement shouldn't be made unless you have actually seen them live and not just on TV, IMHO. ;)

I've heard them before-I think on GMA-and they were pretty bad live then as well. Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are another two that come to mind pretty quickly as being horrible live.

I've heard people say that about Katy Perry, but I've seen her live, and very close up too, and she was great! I don't know if it was the acoustics or what .....

I would give them a pass too. 30 seconds in, I said to DH, I can't hear Fergie....and I can barely hear the music track. There were definately big time audio problems.

Agreed! I kept saying the same things to my DH. None of the "live" halftime shows have ever sounded good. Stadiums don't provide good acoustics. Then you have the tv mics trying to pick up the sound from the speakers and it's just a recipe for failure.

I thought it was the cast from Tron.

WHat a completely bizarre show.

:lmao: Us too, that thing their lead singer had on his head reminded me so much of the costume Gary Oldman's character wore in The Fifth Element. :rotfl: Remember the weird clear plastic head piece?

Superbowl needs to have stadium bands, not studio acts that have like 2 or 3 decent songs. U-2, Kiss, Van Halen, Prince, Def Leapord etc., would work more for the Superbowl. Next they'll do Kristopher Cross. :lmao:

That said, I think the BEPs have gone way downhill. Starting with Boom Boom Pow and that generation of music, they use way to much autotune and then translates to live performances that cannot work with the original song.

Totally agree.

Fergie was way "pitchy" and did NOT sound good. She obviously needs that autotune. She was best when her mic wasn't working. Axl Rose does "Sweet Child O Mine" so much better.

Will.i.am just sounded like he was shouting.

The dancing ice cubes were hilarious.

BUT, the one good thing is that at least this was a live PERFORMANCE, and not lip-snyc!!

Little OT but I love watching Usher perform - he is such a good dancer and blows my mind everytime I see him perform.

I thought it was a fun show and I was thrilled they actually performed live. They might not have sounded "top notch", but I thought they did great.

I agree with this. It's incredibly hard to sing live, dance at the same time and sound "great".

LOVE the Black Eyed Peas. Great hip-hop band. You can't knock them until you've seen them perform live. They are amazing. To me, I grew up listening to hip-hop music. BEP is the only group out there today I can listen to without having every single word edited. No lyrics about women, drugs or making money. Their music is fun makes you want to dance.

I just downloaded last nights halftime show to my iPod. I also have this one from the Oprah show. LOVE Flash Mobs!

You must not know the lyrics. The BEP's even have used the major four letter words in their songs. I can't list them due to the DIS rules, but they are far from squeaky clean. And Fergie, solo, can be even worse.

I know the difference, and I would still listen to them any day over the other hip-hop "rappers" out there. And their millions of albums sold, grammy's AMA's and other awards also speak for themselves. I still say, if you don't like the music...TURN IT OFF!

Though it would be nice if he actually performed some of the song instead of just dancing. Will.I.Am sang more at that part of the performance then Usher did!

I like BEP. I like their energy and their music. Last night had some OBVIOUS technically issues. When it started you couldn't hear anyone but Will.I.Am. and this happened multiple times during the performance. This really messed up the whole performance. However, I still enjoyed the show and am very happy they finally went back to contemporary artists.

I only wish they showed more of Taboo!

Also, I had to explain to my mom who Slash was...

I agree with the pp who said all performers get panned at the Super Bowl. Bad acoustics and such. I didn't think it was as bad as everyone else seems to think. I was glad no clothing came off!:lmao: I think the BEP did better than Christine A.

You're the one who said there are no worries about lyrical content, not me. I actaully like BEP. I just think they sound like crap in concert.... and I have seen them 3 times on video, performing live.

Just know that they do in fact have songs with the kind of lyrics you say they don't have. Go check the lyrics for The Boogie That Be.

I've seen them perform live. Once in a nightclub in Kansas City MO, and on tour in Raleigh NC. I've seen Fergie in DC. I thought they sounded awesome live. They put on an amazing show!

Also, I want to admit. I saw Fergie on The Today Show a few years ago. THIS WAS A HOT MESS!!! Check this out.

Props to Usher for that jump alone. As for the BEP performance, it was good. They were in a football stadium using a lousy sound system that was set up in 20 minutes. You're not going to get the best show with that.

For me, it was that bad.... First off, IMHO, the 10 minute Tron dance-a-thon was bigger and more memorable than the show case performers, and that is not good. And the sound of the black eyed peas singing was as offensive to my ears as Janet Jacksons *ipple shot was to my eyes with her wardrobe malfunction. But I will agree with you, they were better than Christine A. Only Rosanne Barr ever gave a worse performance.

I guess if your a big BEP fan, it don't matter how good or how terrible they sound, you'll probably love it. But to the casual listener, I doubt you found any of this performance entertaining.

Perhaps, they can now just call themselves the Black Eyes, because that is what they gave the Superbowl with that performance, a black eye.
