DH is undergoing the big snip later this week... any tips on extra thoughtful things I might to to ease his recovery? Right now, the only things I have planned are making easy to eat foods he can reheat (he'll be on his own while I'm working) easily, and making "pillowcases" for frozen peas, so he won't have to monkey with wrapping the plastic bags in towels.

I had a tubal last month, and he was super, extra attentive and still is, as I'm having a longer recovery than expected. I'm trying to reciprocate, and be armed with any extra info I can get my hands on from anyone who's been there, done that.

TIA.

And because I know someone's going to ask - yes, we know we both didn't have to do it, but we want to be extra, super-duper sure, because I almost died during my pregnancy with DD. If there will be any future children for us, it will be through fostering and/or adoption.

Though it's sweet, I think you're going a bit overboard with preparations for his recovery. I was pretty disappointed when my DH only needed Advil and an ice pack for an afternoon before going back to work the next day. I kind of wanted him to suffer. Then again, I had 3 of his children by c-section.

Firstly,hugs.

My sil had a really terrible time through childbirth,so I totally understand.

My dh loved cake after his op-big gooey chocolate cake makes him happy.

I don't think you can beat a hearty soup during recuperation, with some delicious bread.yummy.:goodvibes

My husband was pretty much fine right after. An ice pack for a couple of hours and an afternoon of relaxing (maybe there was a Tylenol in there too?).
Maybe make sure there are a couple of movies he'd enjoy watching? I recall DH's doctor saying he'd feel like he could do everything normally but he needed to "putz around" for a day or else he'd feel terrible 2-3 days later on--so movies to encourage him to SIT were good.

DH chilled the evening of the procedure. Went to work the next day (with ice pack) and played basketball with the neighbor that evening.

My DH had a horrible time. I thought they were kidding me when the Dr first came out, but the Dr said he would be physically ill for several days.

Apparently, they cut one side and then the other, well in true " protecting the species, when he went to cut the other side, that tube had retreated up into the abdominal cavity, the Dr said this did occur sometimes. Anyway, the Dr had to go and get it, he was digging around in his pelvic area to find the darn thing. It was horrible.

Lmao! TS the reversal that's a real killer!!!

I was one of the "lucky" ones to be bruised and battered for almost 2 weeks :(

Biggest thing you can do is don't bend over in front of him until he's fully recovered.

My DH had this happen. He was in the office and the doctor was bit new. After an hour of digging, he gave up and told my DH that they were going to have to reschedule and have the other MD (the more experienced one) do it outpatient at the hospital.

My DH was complaining that he was going to have to go through it again. I told him that it made us even. I had 2 c-sections, he gets 2 vasectomies!

His recovering, in both cases, was quick and easy. Took it easy for a day and didn't lift anything extremely heavy for a few days. Hardly any pain.

Absolutely!

We do it at the surgery center I work at 99.9% of the time under a local anesthesia.
Most men drive themselves and resume normal activity the next day.

DH laid on the couch the evening after his procedure with ice and went to work the next day.
Its nothing like a tubal.

Great now I am truly greatful that they did not cut dh open last year

DH didn't really need anything other some ice for a day and an OTC pain reliever for a few days after.

............................. His didn't work. They did it wrong.

DH and I are discussing this as an option these days.

I wonder
1) Is this procedure covered by your insurance? Will it be covered under the new health care law?

2)If not, how much does the procedure cost?

Thank you!
