I've had it with my sandisk card. Error messages, lost photos, etc.

Can you recommend a good 1 or 2 gb card?

Thanks!

I have mostly PNY Optima cards (SD type) and never had one fail. I've only reformatted them once or twice after uploading to the computer but still have not had any failures

hmm sandisk is a good brand

how old is the card... what camera,

do you ever delete pics in camera..

do you format card after each use...

The card is probably 1-2 years old. I use it in my Canon a570is. I delete a decent amount of photos in camera (blurry, kids blinking, etc....is this bad??). I format the camera after each use.

I've read several articles that state that it is bad to delete pics in camera.

it's best to format in camera before each shoot, then do not delete in camera..the way it was explained to me...since each file can vary in size, let's say you delete a 3 meg file, there is then a 3 meg gap in the file allocation table, if you then shoot a 5 meg picture, 3 meg of info might be written to that gap, the other 2 meg after the last picture you took..so your file is split in different locations which can lead to corruption..

you should also always make sure you allow enough time for the camera to fully shut down, before removing the card

there is also the possibility that your card is just going bad do to age...cards have a limited life expectancy of so many insertions and
uses..

Thanks! I didn't know it was bad to delete in-camera. I just figured it was OK since the camera gives you the option to do so.

I was also thinking that the card might be old or damaged from being placed in & out of our card reader so many times.

I've also read conflicting theories on whether it's OK or bad to swap cards between cameras, rather than take chances I won't even swap between my 2 Sony A700s,,

I have seperate cards for each and will only swap in case of emergency..

if you have lost pictures, ZAR is great at recovering from memory cards

Boy this info is interesting. I have never had this problem at all and I delete from the camera and swap all the time. I also have a card reader on my PC that I delete from. It is so much easier that way. I will pay attention to this thread and hope more info is provided. I will also try and reformat the card from time to time. I have never done that but I am sure it is not that hard...smjj

If you have a card reader, I would try formatting it on the PC, than reformatting it on the camera.

I had one that had similar issues and that seemed to clear it up.

Sandisk is among the highest rated memory cards. You may have a bad one, it happens.
Afaik a lot of cards have a lifetime warranty, contact Sandisk to see if you can send it back.

I have only had 1 bad Sandisk card and I think it was a counterfit I got on Ebay. I heard one of the big things for Black Friday is going to be memory cards. I think I might get a couple extras. You can never have too much memory for your camera. :)

I have actually thought of just keeping them on the memory card after putting them on my PC just as a extra backup. They are so cheep now. I also back them up to DVD and flash drives...smjj

Walmart"s black Friday ad has these on sale : Kodak 2 gb sd Card for $ 7.00
and San Disk 4 gb sdhc Card for $ 10.00 . hope this helps you
