Cracker Barrell makes two types of gravy...the flavorless one you are referring to and then their sausage gravy. Cracker barrell makes a wonderful breakfast, including the biscuits and gravy (order the sausage one though)

cracker barrel makes only brown gravy and white gravy. the white gravy is their sausage gravy aka sawmill gravy. sometimes its really thick, sometimes its really thin. sometimes its white. or tan. or orangy lite brown. anything else that they want to tell you is gravy, isn't. trust me on this one.

My niece works at Cracker Barrel and after reading this I had to call her and she confirmed this to be true. I'll stick to the eggs and hash brown casserole -yum (or is it really not hash browns ? lol) from now on. At WDW we liked what we got at Whispering Canyon's breakfast.

no.. its really hashbrowns. tell her you want some HBR.. pronouced H-B-R. i worked at cracker barrel for wayyy too long. its hashbrown potatoes, colby cheese and diced onions and some seasonings. its really good. but not when the backup cook didn't prepared enough and you run out so they have to put it together and make it but instead of throwing it in the over and letting it bake, they throw it on the grill and it gets all funny looking and then the grill cook globs it on a plate. but thats just so the server(me) doens't have to go out to her tables on a saturday morning and tell all them that they ran out.

IMHO

On property,
1900 Park Faire.

Off Property (and you have to be driving to Disney as none of these places are close)
Bojangles
Lexie's LunchBox (Lake Mary Blvd in Lake Mary, FL I'll give directions in a PM if anybody is driving on I4 in the Sanford area around breakfast time)

Lexie makes everything from scratch and they were just the best I have ever tasted.

OK, so now I'm curious - what is it?

For a southern breakfast don't forget to ask for GRITS! They're GREAT!!

We want to know what isn't really gravy! At least I think we do...

I've always thought Cracker Barrel's gravy tasted like it came out of a can or started with a mix. I've only had biscuits and gravy at a couple of buffets at WDW -- both were edible but neither were made from scratch authentic.

You can get decent biscuits and gravy at Hardee's and Bojangles is better than Cracker Barrel (but not as good as Hardee's).

I agree. I have had gravy at a few WDW rest. and it always tastes like canned/mix and not made from scratch. The gravy at 1900 Park Fare was pretty good but it was not made there, it was from a can. Pretty good but just gravy-esque :rotfl:

Same goes for Cracker Barrel.

If you want some real gravy come down to Mommy's and she will fix you some. It is definitely homemade :thumbsup2 :sunny:

If Park Faire's was from a can I sure would like to know what brand so I could buy it. I certainly have never had one from a can that tasted anything like their's...When were you there last? I have been there this year, I know my biscuits and gravy, and it was very "made from scratch" tasting...

ok. i can say for a fact that Cracker Barrel's white gravy isn't made from a can. im not positivly sure what is it made from. but i remember seeing it made ( sorry.... i left CB last July) i remember this tube that looked like pre made cookie dough... i think theres milk or buttermilk in it. all i know is that if you let it sit for a while, it will turn lite tan, then tan, then orangy brown, the molasses.... and it gels like no other. but it was like the partial ingredients to the gravy.... maybe i will call my friend who is the back up cook and ask her. anyways, the top of the meatloaf isn't gravy. please dont ask me for some more of that gravy thats on top of the meatloaf. i will walk into the server line and grab a bottle of Heinz Ketchup and bring it to your table. :rotfl: hmm, what isn't gravy that they might tell you is gravy. maybe i will just let you go in to a cracker barrel and find out yourself. i can't give away all of Cracker Barrell's secrets.

ps. it has to be the worst run restaurant i have EVER worked in, in my entire life. but thats ANOTHER TOPIC... in a different forum. but i don't want that to deter people from eating there. ha! i took my boyfriends 5 year old niece there for breakfast and she wouldn't touch the food. she said that her pancakes were the worst pancakes she ever ate in her entire life.

Well, gotta agree with the Cracker Barrel sawmill gravy. I think its some of the worst gravy I've ever had. I grew up with homemade sausage gravy and I make a mean biscuits and gravy myself. Cracker Barrel's STINKS. It is nice to know where to get it onsite, though. We stay at POR and have yet to go to Boatwright's but keep saying we will. I think we should do that this year!

The biscuits and gravy at the Whispering Canyon Cafe are the reason we keep going back for the skillet breakfast. I just think they're so good. I can't explain why.
I have to agree. The skillet breakfast is delicious and their biscuits and Gravy are so good!!
