The Bachelor - An Officer and a Gentlemen

What do you all make of Nicole's comment to Bevin to "keep the rose close to you" after Bevin got back to all the line??

Hi ladies! Just found this thread so I'm subscribing.

I wanted to add my voice to the chorus cheering Stephanie's departure! That "story of my life" comment made me want to gag. She is the CLASSIC girl who's high on herself but nothing to really write home about - of course, for her it's always about other girls being jealous!

I've really liked this guy so far. I almost peed myself during the first ep when Tina seranaded him and Andy got all choked up about it! He TOTALLY reminds me of a guy I grew up with - he was a real nerd and then sort of grew out of his awkward teen phase - ended up really hot, but had no idea, lol! He still had all the geeky interests and personality. I had a huge crush on him back in the day. Anyway, Andy strikes me as very similar. It seems to me that from the start he was picking a variety of girls - some very pretty, others not so much, but were still intelligent or interesting in other ways. I like that it's not the same old, same old.

Favorite "geeky bachelor moment" of last night: when Andy walks in with Bevin before the rose ceremony and the girls are all giving her dirty looks - Andy's standing there oblivious to the looks, and guzzling something through this big dorky straw - looks like a Shirley Temple! Not his sexiest moment. I thought it was hilarious.

I was happy with who he got rid of last night. None of those wormen seemed right for him. I disagree about Bevin -- I find her to be too clingy already. Maybe she is already in love with him and that's where the insecurity comes form, but I think she's like a clinging vine and annoys me a little.

Tessa seems sweet, but also too intense and skittish. I mean, all these ladies knew going into this that there were going to be many other ladies there dating and fighting for the bachelor. She acts surprised by the others and the competition for his time.

What about the school teacher who had the private date? She is a little out there too. I liked her at first, but last night she seemed very clingy and insecure too. I think he is the type to want an independent woman, one who can stand on her own two feet, but one who will be the partner and love of his life. Right now, from what the show wants us to see anyhow, I can't tell who is really right for him yet. Maybe the other doctor who asked him on the ski slope if he was high maintenance.

No doubt. I picture her more as one of those girls who was probably homely (those ears, moles, nonexistent upper lip, etc.) and got little attention. Then she grew up, bought a pair of fake ones, and labeled herself as hot. Now she says it's the "story of my life" with other girls being jealous, when it's really her own insecurities shining like a big ol' beacon in the night. :thumbsup2

I was wondering about the money issue too. I didn't understand how he had all those expensive "toys" but now that he said they weren't his.... wonder how many of the girls will be interested when they know he's not rich. Do they all think he has lots of money?

Boy I was glad to see Stephanie leaving... talk about being full of herself. :headache:

The income thing is very interesting. Having been married to a military member, I can give you an idea of their pay.

As an O-6 with 10 years of service, his base pay is $6414/month. Add BAS (food allowance) of $192/mo., housing $1103/mo., Sea pay of $405, Special pay of $916, Board certification pay of $291/mo., and a possible special incentive pay of $13,000/year for a family practice specialty. He could also be paid a retention bonus if he agrees to stay a certain number of years. That comes to a figure just short of $125K/year.

There is a running joke amongst military members--what do you call a medical school graduate with a "C" average? A military doctor! OK, it's a joke...I'm not poking fun at anyone...and I did feel, for the most part, that our medical treatment in the military was top-notch...but military doctors do suffer from the stereotype.

I really think The Bachelor would be better served by not making the guy seem like something he's not. Obviously, the IDEA of Captain Andy Baldwin is much better than the real life Andy Baldwin. I don't believe he was ever "the geek" in school. I've been to a couple of high school reunions, and not a single one of my old classmates morphed into something that nice in theory.

$125K a year is nothing to sneeze at in my book but...... way short of a yacht and that fancy car he's driving:rotfl:. Thanks for the info.

I agree about Tina, I just don't see them ending up together and her mouth always looks strange to me.

It's been bugging me, Tina reminds me of someone. I finally figured out who she looks like!!

Captain Andy Baldwin

Not to split hairs, but he's not a captain. He's a LT, so that's an O-3. (if I'm thinking clearly).

I think on the show they called him Capt Andy Baldwin (I mean in the voice over part, where the host was talking.) ? Am I hearing things?

He did say he drive an old Jeep, which is the state car of Hawaii, LOL.

No comments on last night yet?

I didn't watch the whole show (DH DVR'ed two other shows between 9 and 10 grrrrrr). SO happy that my fave is still in it! Looks like Andy is still really into Tessa.

One thing I always wonder - from the previews for next week - why is it always such a horror and shock that someone on the show has already been married? It happens! People marry young and some regret it and divorce. It's not like they're a serial killer or something :confused3

I don't think it's shocking or horrible, EXCEPT she hasn't brought it up. Now that he's going home with her, she has no choice but tell him.

I can see where he might be surprised, considering she manipulated more alone time with him than anyone. She couldn't have taken one of those moments for a serious heart-to heart? This is something he should have known from the beginning and she didn't tell him. I think it speaks to her integrity (or lack thereof).

This is awful but... I fell asleep before he handed out the last rose! Can someone tell me who is left... THANKS!!

I totally expected him to send Stephanie and Tina home! Neither one of them seemed to open up to him!

I had a dream last night about who he picked..........he picked Melinda Doolittle from American Idol :lmao: And in the dream it didn't occur to me that she was not even on that show!! When I woke up I realized how funny the dream was!!

I am not so sure that Tessa is right for him. From what the show allows us to see, where is the chemistry between them? She seems so reluctant all the time.

I don't like Bevin either. She gets more clingy every week, and now we find out that she is hiding a secret past. Yes, plenty of people have previous marriages -- but this girl has had plenty of alone time with Andy to tell him about it.

I like the 23 year old school teacher best for him ~~ so far.

I just can't trust Bevin for some reason. I hate all the weeping and complaining about having to share him with all the other women. Has she not seen this show before? Did she think it would be the Andy and Bevin show?

I also do not like the way she manipulates all the extra time with him, and really, he shouldn't go along with it. The date on the yacht was not supposed to have any one on one time, and he left the others just sitting there which was not fair to them. I'm just thrilled that she has stopped complaining about her ankle, that's a plus.

I was not surprised by the ones he sent home last night, those seemed like no brainers to me.

For some reason, I don't think any of them are perfect for him. Obviously Andy disagrees since he proposed to someone :lmao: I guess the lesser of all the evils left would be Tessa, or maybe Amber.

Sorry to jump in here, but I am confused about one thing, I was putting the kids down when Tessa got the necklace, was that just for the night, or does she get to keep it?:confused3

I'm confused on that as well...did they ever clarify that?
